I am a DCS World content creator who likes to learn and share my experiance with all things surrounding flight simulators. Currently I almost exlusively fly DCS World but I hope to expand my horizons in the future. Join me on the journey of learning new aircraft and flying!
If you like games like War Thunder, MSFS and xPlane consider checking out DCS World by Eagle Dynamics. It is a flight simulator where you can simulate combat scenarios with very detailed and realistic aircraft like the F-16C, F-14, A-4E, MiG-29, Su-27, etc. With dogfights and BVR combat you can see aviation from a different point of view.

Solid content dude and man oh man do i love this mod! Has it been updated lately? I went ga ga for it a few months ago
Thanks! I don’t think it has had any updates.
Hopefully this is good enough to make it to Enigma (soon to be Heat Blur) Cold War server.
Maybe, I doubt it however. A nuclear weapon might be too powerful
@@dcs_one haha well the nuke could be left out. Like. Tbey do with the more moderm Aim 9
Early morning, too much coffee. I know the signs.

Early morning, too much coffee. I know the signs.
I feel like I’ve seen this cimment before🤔 must be the coffee talking
Cougar.. cougar... Cougar..... On a Virpil
That works too!
The F-106 was used by the US Air Force as an interceptor which there was no intercept mission in Vietnam.
It was primarily created to protect continental USA
The flight model isn't bad. I think all the inaccuracies are based on helicopter flight models. All sims I've flown (XP, MSFS, DCS) get the trading altitude for airspeed or vice versa using pitch wrong and they enter vortex ring state way too easy. So, it takes quite a while to slow down. But overall it's outstanding. About as good as the official Army simulator I used to fly...minus the motion and accurate cockpit.
Yeah, the comment about the flight model was a mistake on my part. Love to fly this beast
I've had mine for about a year now. Great stick but would definitely recommend upgrading the base. The stock base it comes with still holds up but technology has come a LONG way from grease and springs. Opening that thing up is something I'd recommend using gloves for
Yeah. I do not want to know what it’s like inside it
@@dcs_one had to open it up once because some plastic ring got out of alignment on the inside, my hands ended up looking like the baby ducks from those dawn soap commercials
@@skiboi jeez
As far as mounting goes, the base is wide enough to just put it in my lap. I've been flying that way for years.
I feel like it would be inconvenient especially when using pedals
@@dcs_one Not at all. I’ve been flying with pedals and HOTAS since 2015. I guess your body size should be considered.
Just ordered one used then looked up a review and this one popped up how convenient I’m even more excited now.
That’s awesome!
Unfortunately Thrustmaster has sat back and enjoying its monopoly as the online highend HOTAS. Now its an expensive sub mid tear product.
They have some catching up to do
For some reason every time I download that file or the equivalent for any of their other aircraft it downloads as an empty notes file and I have no Idea how to fix it.
I suggest joining the respective mods discord and asking them
I've had mine 12 years and still going strong. After a few years I spilled coke on it and fried the circuit board in the bottom. TM customer service sent me a new board for free. I also took the main spring out and it's much easier on the wrist with no downside.
That’s cool!
just to confirm, this is satire right? right???
Of course
I have a CH Products FIghterstick USB, and it is damn near identical to this stick. There are four differences. It is plastic, not metal. It has a built in throttle wheel. There is only one pinky button. And the last is there is no pushbutton on the thumb 4-way hat switch. One thing I found with my Fighterstick was the pinky button was SUPER annoying. I cannot grip the stick with my full hand as the pinky button was in the way. I ended up buying some simple pushbuttons off Amazon, taking the stick apart, removed the pinky button, re-routed the two wires from it to the base of the unit, and drilled a hole and mounted my new push button in the lower left corner of the base with the two wires soldered to it. Then I just wrapped the handle in black electrical tape to cover the hole. Now I have a button I can use and not cramp my hand using a "Spiderman" grip all the time.
That’s unfortunate but at least you found a workaround
Just buy a wingwing.....
Might just do that
throttle: pretty dcent, grip, pretty good, stick base gimbal is absolute dogshit however
Hope the new AVA base is better
@@dcs_one i think it will better, but for the same money you could get a better quality Virpil one with more features
Just re purchased my Warthog throttle again after first one died after 5 years. Was not an option to go elsewhere. It’s a fantastic hotas system.
It works well, love the switches on the throttle
The throttle is brilliant. Built like a tank. Not for kids, some of those buttons and switches you really have to mash.
Love the switches on the throttle, the slew stick is another story
oh wow Id like more reviews like this
There will be more ;)
0:14 "My friend lent it to me to review", yeah... yeah... sure
It’s true…
If you are looking at buying one in 2024 with the TM inflated pricing, there are better combo's from Virpl, VKB or winwing for equal or less money.
Winwing comes in at a similar price but is better
Used it for 3 years there is a giant wobble switches are shit connector broke etc dont buy that crap
Sorry to hear that
Winwing is much better in all aspects. The build quality is top notch and the sensor is not a ball and cup one which means it doesnt suffer from drift. Also it has a softoware that its actually useful and it is at the sam price range. I have tried both the Warthog and I currently own the winwing F16 stick(with the shaker although its not a must but helps u feel the air) and I would never consider switching it to a warthog. The stick feels 10X the quality and the buttons are a lot better. Its just so much better and the warthog has been the same since the release in a constantly evolving market and at this point its just not good for the price when you have tons of alternatives at the same or even cheaper price point.
Winwing is looking great! The Warthog is good just not at its current price
As a 7 year Hotas Warthog owner I should sound my discontent with the myriad design flaws of this HOTAS; 1. People should know that the rubber damping gasket for the gimbal of this stick is notorious for the adhesive wearing out and eventually yeeting itself completely out the gimbal. It's super common for Warthog stick owners to eventually replace this part with an aftermarket HDPE ring. 2. The notorious "stiction" issue of the ball and socket gimbal that requires users to completely re-grease the ball for smooth operation. 3. The early throttle slew assembly has a horrifically bad ministick. This was apparently changed in later versions but mine required a 3rd party replacement by a DeltaSim to even be useable. 4. The stick trigger's grease eventually deteriorates and causes the whole trigger assembly to feel muddy and eventually get stuck in the fully depressed position, requiring the whole assembly to be opened, cleaned and re-greased. 5. The metal shell of the stick has manufacturing stresses that cause it to warp over time. My own unit has deformed so much that the seams no longer line up. 6. The finish of the metal parts is hot garbage. Mine is so badly pitted the only way it will be fixed is with car body filler. 7. TARGET is a garbage piece of software. Every Warthog owner has felt the pain and misery of having to run it only to set the LED brightness before starting a sim. Absolutely no-one except A-10 fetishists should be considering buying this design in 2024 considering that the modern offerings are far superior.
I have bought my HOTAS Warthog back in 2016, thus it´s 8 years old now and I can tell you that the HOTAS has been heavily used over the years and it still feels like day 1 to me. I´m sure that I just had a lucky pick with that device(s) but it is as it is. I have mounted my HOTAS on a self constructed wooden construction, resembling a center stick and Throttle Position in a Fighter jet. It serves perfectly as VR HOTAS since 2018 as well. The secret of why I think my device still rocks like on day one is is that I have never opened it, never added grease to it and never had the need to replace any Buttons. I´m still very happy with it and hopefully will be for a few more years.
@@MemphisBelle291 that only indicates to me that this production line has QC issues. 5 minutes searching on KZread and you'll find no shortage of users who have experienced any number of my issues and a cottage industry of people selling fixes.
@@MemphisBelle291 Same here. The slew upgrade is a must though. And my pinky switch on the throttle has died, so that will be my next upgrade. I've got stick extentions that put it closer to the warthog length so I don't notice the stiction issues. Outside of the throttle pinky switch, nothing has worn out for me. I'm not sure what people are doing to their HOTAS.
Nah, fuckoff, I've got mine last year based on experiences with this over years. I did screenshot your post for future reference just in case you're righter than I tho. Clear skies and many kills mf!
I think you got unlucky on the metal casting. I've had no issues.
Ive had mine for 9+ years, other than a slight wobble on the stick everything is still perfect and theres no dead zone. GOATED HOTAS
Thats good!
Going strong after 10 years both throttle and stick… just regreased the third time in 10 years …still, awesome feel and action… if I were to buy one today, I would go with the WINWING
What do you grease it with?
The Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS is so much worse than for example a WinWing HOTAS. WinWing HOTAS are so much better, more precise and you have much more variety and it is even cheaper. So I wouldn´t buy it instead I would by a WInWing hotas. I got a ww hotas and I cant complain in any way
I want to try out the WINWING products to see for myself. Have heard good things about them
I own the warthog stick and throttle for about 4 years now. Have them mounted on a mount. It is still just as good as it was new. For DCS, there are definitely enough buttons to map for any module. For the A10C, F15E, and F18C, it’s really automatic mapping. Feels really natural.
Yes it does! Too bad I have to give it back🥲
@@dcs_one What rally shines bright is the insanity of the price development. When I have bought mine back in 2016 as complete HOTAS with Throttle and Stick, it cost 350€. I have purchased it over Amazon. Now if I´m looking for it at Amazon, it costs more than 500€ as you described. Its ridiculous. Considering to buy a WinWing or VKB at some day does not really make me happy as they sell every single screw for a damn high price (Phrase)
I still use the Cougar, it works fine.
That’s good!
The Base has been upgraded now its called the AVA.
Ahaa, will need to check it out!
@@dcs_one Please do the Thrustmaster AVA is a major upgrade to the WartHog.
Can't see the point myself. They should have just made it the standard base on the stick.
And here I am still using the cougar...
If it works, it works
I still use the stick and throttle but I did upgrade to the Virpil base, which improves the overall feel and makes it much more adjustable. Bought them new years ago and they still work well, so I have not considered upgrading. I also have mounts for both, which makes them much easier to use. With the release of the new TM base, they may be creeping back into the game.
Will see how the new bases work out, otherwise probably best to use Virpil
The stick and throttle can be calibrated but the tools to do so aren't readily available, I think TM only gave the links for them to trouble shoot problems. But if you do a Google search or search ED Forums you can find them. When I bought mine used years ago it had the same problem, but after calibration it never needed to again until I had to do some internal maintenance to it and displaced the sensor somewhat. A properly calibrated warthog shouldn't need to use a deadzone.
I saw multiple threads about it but some people even said that it messes up their controls so I didn’t try it. It shouldn’t be this hard to do a simple callibration
@@dcs_one I don't see how it would mess their controls. The reason it's hard it's because the Warthog isn't really meant to be calibrated, the calibration holds and if you don't mess around with it like disassembling the thing you really shouldn't need it. My unit when it arrived for some reason had a slight roll drift as does yours.
@@dcs_one by the way there's two separate tools one for the throttle and one for the joystick, you only need to run the appropriate one. Also the jfy the calibration isn't stored in a file in windows, it's flashed directly into the device's firmware.
@@BrunoBarata78 okay! Will have a look
went from a T flight, to X55 , to TM , to winwing libra and orion2 . best move going to Winwing from TM warthog. and I also have a virpil t50 cm3 throttle which is amazing
I want to try WINWING too, they look good
@@dcs_one they do have some issues right out of the box, if you decide to purchase winiwng stick and or throttle, get some high quality lube and get inside and take care of their lack of lube..
@@jebb125 ahaa, will note that
Very solid stick. But considering that vipril, vkb, wingwin are out there, sort of obsolete. Holds well but not worthy nowasdays. ThrustMaster should consider updating their products.
Thrustmaster just came out with a new base that uses any of their high end sticks so they are.
This stick is getting old, will see how the new Thrustmaster products look
Their mostly metal (not plastic) sticks are based on a real world designs like the Warthog, FA18. It's not suited for space sims so if that's what you mean by "old" then yes those designs are not from the F U T U R E ! !
@@rudebuddha4895 nah the designs are great but the tech used and materials are old. I was reffering to the new TM bases
@@rudebuddha4895 Mechanically speaking, and quality-wise, TM Warthog is obsolete. If you enjoy TM system, TM Ava is the way to go in 2024. Buying a "new" Warthog in 2024 is nonsense.
Dont hotswap the devide: means dont pull off the joystick while USB Cable is connected to computer. Beside that i can say that i disassembled the warthog base for greasing the gimbal which is all made of plastic. And thats a big downer! Gimbals from VKB, Winwing or Virpil are all-metal gimbals, not all-plastic gimbals soaked in grease. The grease over time gets sticky and you overshoot fine movements easily. the stick itself is ok but dont buy that base - its kids-toy quality and "hall effect sensors" sounds fine but should not distract from hat big big issue. The throttle also is absolute fine.
Only gripe Inhave with the throttle is the slew stick. Metal would make it so much better
What??? I'm still on the crappy T.16000M HOTAS and I still find it more or less useable, and you are doubting the Warthog? I mean, it might not be worth the PRICE, but other than that...
I mean its good for what it is, it’s just not worth buying a new one for full price
@@dcs_one It was not worth the full price from the beginning, but it's not like there was a choice... Good thing now there is at least a semblance of choice.
I the stick design but the gimbal issues turned me away from it. I went with a winwing, and I've been loving the F-16EX stick from the moment I first used it. The vibration feedback is also my absolute favorite feature.
WinWing kinda broke the market bringing a cam-stick at the price of the thrustmaster, even though it lacks friction clutches
Winwing seems very good, would love to testnone some day
I have a vkb and it is great.
I bet! Would love to test it out some day
I bought mine a few years ago now and I still think its amazing
It really is!
What plane were you using in the beginning?
In this video I used the F-86 Sabre and F-16 Viper
If you think this is big, try the F/A-18C one. The pinky buttons are even further apart.
Yeah, I might have to stretch my fingers before using it
TM Flight stick is great, even the F18 replacement stock. The TM Warthog Throttle isn’t as good though..
The slew stick is jucky
Great job!
For me it didn't work in the DCS.openbeta folder; It Did work in just the DCS folder (not the installation directory, where you think it would go with the SU-25T mod and the TF-51....), i tried about 5 times to install in in the DCS.openbeta folder, didn't get the A-4e icon in-game, until i ''installed'' it into DCS folder.
It might have changed since they combined both DCS versions.
@@dcs_one Thats why i posted.
Did you say June 26th is the estimated release date? If so, this got me really pumped. I was expecting mid September
Yes, although we will not get a logistics overhaul with it, that will come later
Gotta love that TuAF camo. Worth every penny.
Beautiful
I've never seen so much obsession over a plane that is so pathetically unimpressive... Graphics look great but the plane was replaced for a reason
It’s not about the best plane. It’s about flying a piece of history in probably the most detailed commercially available simulation
Also it’s flashy
Apart from the “5000 of them being made and helped to protect many, many aerospaces around the world” part, you might be paritally right…
You don't like planes ? Thats ok, just move on
Funniest comment I’ve read in a long time. Totally lost the plot about DCS
i have kind of lose my deep love for DCS. they keep changing thing way to much for me
Sorry to hear that
0:28 "ask ground crew to remove wheel chocks"........let's understand this, remove 'imaginary' wheel chocks, so the 'imaginary' ground crew doesn't get sucked into the 'imaginary' engine.................but.... 6:25 "turn on ECM (and radar if flying a radar bird)" while on the deck...........so, now we are NOT worried about irradiating the 'imaginary' ground crew with 'imaginary' cancer-causing high-freq radiation......... 9:26 "we took off from a carrier".......noooo, you took off from an amphibious assault ship.
Jeez, I guess you skipped the part where I talked about the radiation and said that we only do it in DCS. I imagined that you would pay attention.
