My mom used to watch Joyce for help with self esteem. She was in an abusive marriage and was broken from it. She eventually stopped watching her because she felt convicted about listening to her. She didn't believe she as a woman should be preaching.

I used to give Joyce Meyer money when I was single. I was in word of faith teaching because I felt like I ought to be. Partly because my Dad had Glioblastoma IV brain cancer and because it seemed deeper and more spiritual than other forms of Christianity. I despise it now. Someone should look into the fact that her bodyguard killed his entire family- 2 little boys and his wife because he was having a torrid affair with his wife’s friend. The voice that was speaking into his life and the sermons he was listening to for years were Joyce Meyer’s. He said that by killing his family he was getting what God wanted for him. That was the end result of listening to Joyce Meyer.

Andy is not among the elect. Some recoil at such a statement, but I am confident in saying that. He isn’t just straying from the truth he is unabashedly assaulting it. To understand Andy, it helps to see him as the son of a very successful businessman who saw an opportunity to make his own way in the business, but hated the product. People like him and Keller make a lot of sense if you begin to view them as people who are embarrassed by historical Christianity

And pagans can identify with the need for community too, and still have no clue that they are sinners on the way to hell unless they repent and trust Christ for the forgiveness of their sins. I've been to a lot of conferences and heard the same stuff from the same people a bunch. On the one hand, tho, that one story is often why they were asked to speak. For something different, i LOVE me some Chris Brown from North Coast Church. Dude tells the story of the scripture. It's beautiful and creative and more about Jesus than himself.

You say “context and culture” when culture is part of context. To name a few There is: Historical context Cultural context Textual context - not just surrounding text, but includes genre, author, target audience, grammar, etc Geographical context But it’s all context
