🎉 I also teach split grades in a Christian school. So I will share that I tried what you are planning as well with a joint “opener” activity and then the older grade does book work while the younger grades are being “taught” but the issue I found is the beginning of the lessons the older grades are not sure of what they are doing. This year I am going to try doing the same “opener” activity, then assign a “Y chart” activity based on topic the first day of a lesson to the older kids, teacher the younger ones, then assign the younger ones their independent work, and teach the older. The older ones then get independent work and the younger ones get an exit ticket. I’ll let you know how this works…but I am praying for much more understanding and a greater grasps on classroom management based on clear direction. Blessings to you on your new year!

Did you ever get your Florida teaching certificate or do you not need one for Private schools in Florida? I can’t imagine being a parent and paying for tuition without certified teachers. Private schools in Washington state require a teaching certificate. Just curious. Good luck with your endeavors. You’ll do great. Sounds like you will get the support that you need.

My planning is first thing in the morning before students arrive. We have our contract hours starting an hour early. We don’t have any specials, but if I ever need a break, I just call admin and they will come stay with the kids for a few minutes so I can take a break.

I feel like this school is going to be a much better fit for you. I remember attending a small private school from 3rd-8th grade that was for students with Dyslexia. I feel like I could have benefited from it in high school, but with a different principal from the one i had when I was in 8th grade. I attended a Catholic school that had a Dyslexia Program when I was in high school. I don't know how I would have done in a public high school.

I hope you have an awesome 24-25 school year! I was in school many yrs ago i was in a split 1st and 2nd grade class and i will always remember it was hard to stay on task on my 1st grade work because I was always paying attention to what my teacher was teaching the 2nd graders.

My husband and I highly recommend Petsafe Litter Box. All you would have to buy would be trays. We used to go through litter like it was nothing. We only have one cat

SO SO happy for you, Brookelynne! My mom taught fourth or fifth grade for 20 years before moving to the third grade a couple of years ago, and still loves it so much. Praying for your school year, and that your kiddos see Jesus through you every day! <3
