see these arent bad horror tropes, but i love the ones that have nothing to do with ghosts or paranormal, just the things that COULD happen but wont necessarily happen, a good example would be @pastraspec’s Dreams Of An Insomniac, as it takes place one earth and feels terrifyingly realistic

Endings. I agree, they are a struggle to get right and require a lot of revising. I write organically and flow with the story as it grows on the page, so the ending takes enormous care, examination, and long-term endurance with the writing muses, whom I probably exhaust! Nice interview, Bill.

I like Joe's advice, that "even if a book is a failure, you keep going on." "Failure is a friend" in many ways, a wise author once told me. I thought she was crazy. But we do learn so much if we engage it with intelligence and not emotionally.

She grabbed only her purse when she fled her abusive husband, certain he would kill her if he found her, but he wouldn't find he at the shelter. As she tearfully settled into her new room, a maintenance man knocked to repair a leak - and she recognized his voice - him! Her husband!

Brilliant insights. Thanks for sharing. Agree with the ‘looked down’ theme. Even as a reader, sometimes I get … “oh you’re one of those readers” from other readers. horror seems to be considered for the “young adult” type of reader. I was always a sci-fi fan, but it’s been SNAFU from cohesion press, love death + robots that opened my eyes to speculative military horror … I never knew I was a horror fan until I read/watched those short stories. RC Bray’s narration on audible for mil-horror has been great.

I had tears in my eyes as I watched this. For the record Voiez is pronounced Voy-ez, but I enjoyed Voi immensely and no apology needed. The number of times I say a word I have read and pronounced it in a way that makes others smile or laugh cannot be counted on my digits. Thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity. I am proud to be part of it.

A wonderfully creepy short story from Campbell. "The Dreamed" has a similar ambience, but for some reason I find "Fully Boarded" a tad more appealing. It's always a pleasure to hear Campbell reading his own texts.

I hope one day to spend some time with mama Metcalf. The book sounds very appealing. I like horror that adds a little humor. It lightens the somewhat trademark vibe of the horror genre which is sometimes very depressing.
