The West Point Band is the Army’s oldest musical organization and continues to provide world-class music to educate, train, and inspire the Corps of Cadets and to serve as ambassadors of the United States Military Academy and the Army to local, national, and international communities. Its innovative programs and performances are enjoyed across the globe through regular television, radio, and recordings. The West Point Band traces its lineage back to a single drummer and fifer left to maintain the tradition of military music at West Point after the Revolutionary War. Over the next 200 years, the band evolved into one of the most capable and versatile professional performing groups in the world.

Thinking today of James Aubrey Hulsey of Palestine Texas. He and I spoke for a few minutes at a POL dump in the Mekong Delta one morning as we refueled out respective Hueys. We argued about the Cowboys and Oilers (he from North Texas, I from Houston), laughed and then flew off in different directions. I don’t think it matters what war or what side I think it matters if you lived life loving mankind and God. And I think this song is a beautiful testament to those who fought for what they believed to be the truth right or wrong
To those Vietnam Vets that came home to largely, an ungrateful nation....50 years later, you are not forgotten, nor are you unloved. There are those of us that lived back then during that war and remember the horrors of growing up as a young boy, watching it on TV in the nightly news. We knew what you were up against and we knew how the TV coverage was slighted against you. But, those of us that knew, never quit praying for you all to just come home. I remember finding a medical bracelet one day on the ball field at school and knew right away that it belonged to a vet. I never forgot that person's name and to this day, I will always wonder if the horrors of that war drove him crazy or if he was able to put it behind him. I pray that he found a little bit of peace from his experiences. My prayer for all of you Vietnam Vets is that you find peace one day for those of you that still struggle to make sense of it all. This nation loves our vets, don't ever forget it.

When I was in high school, living in southern N.Y., a neighbor invited me to hear a West Point Band concert with his son. It was my first visit to W.P. At the Sunday concert, the band performed Scheherazade. It was thrilling for this young musician. Our military bands are great morale boosters. 👍👏💖
I know what you mean, my father graduated from West Point!! He was a gem!! He did a lot, he taught a lot, especially through his example!! No one is perfect, but he was in many ways. We can be perfect in some things….actually in many things!! It’s our choice what to do with our lives!! Don’t fold to pressure…stay with holy people, good people, and stand in holy and good places. Amen…we can do this!!

Is the West Point band all made up of Cadets? Or are they current officers and also civilian musicians? Or a mixture of all?
The West Point Band is comprised of active duty soldier in the US Army assigned to the band. Neither civilians nor Cadets are not part of the band.
Band members are all professional musicians. They audition for the band and if selected must complete basic training prior to reporting to West Point. The vast majority of members of the West Point band have advanced degrees in music performance.

This is a call to arms for all serviceman, veterans, cadets, alumni from the academies and other senior military institutions.. as well as any true patriots that bleed red, white and blue. I'm an alumni from the Virginia Military Institute, class of 2010, and currently working in the beginning phases of a huge non profit to help save homeless veterans.. our brothers in arms.. we are stronger together gentleman & ladies.. and our corps needs help.. I will explain more to those that reach out as it develops and huge opportunities will be available to all involved.. As Marcus Aurelius once famously said "what we do in this life, echoes for eternity." Please just leave your name or comments if interested and I will be in touch ASAP.. at this stage of development we're probably looking at a year before the battle plan is complete and funding secured..
