Hi, I'm Squidz! Thanks for checking out my channel!
I'll post from time to time with content like ragtime or carnivorous plants or just whatever I feel like posting. Comment what you'd like to see more of!
I liked that a lot. I compose music too and also have a channel.

nice! which strains did you write and which did cam write?
@SquidzYT28 күн бұрын
I wrote the 1st, 2nd, and half of the TRIO (as it was only an intro to the reprise of the first strain but Cam liked it so much he had to add to it.) BUT Cam did fix my attempted tenths (I didn't even know what they were), changed the reprise of the first strain to C# minor (a half-step up), and added dynamics to bring the piece to life. Overall I'd say pretty 50/50. (Haha sorry for the essay of a response)

Impressively good rag for a new generation ragtimer I must say! The parabola title fits because of the left hand phrasing drawing arcs on the score!

I hear so many maple leaf references and the key being the same as well
@SquidzYTАй бұрын
Other than being in the same key and having a somewhat similar bass line for some parts of some strains, I wasn’t really aiming for there to be much similarity between these two pieces. Those are very common traits among classic rags though, especially Frog Legs Rag, The Thriller!, Tickled to Death, etc.

@@SquidzYT there are sections like 0:23 with the melody that kinda sounds like sections in maple leaf rag but heavily modified (that one kinda sounded like the bar before the chorus part to me)

8va going up an octave is only used in the treble clef, and vice versa for the bass clef. The reason for me bringing this up being measure 35, which is notated incorrectly. Love that trio bass line though! Great job, loved hearing this one again :)

Yeah sorry about that. This was technically my 2nd rag and I had no idea how to notate music as well as I do now. Don’t really want to change it cuz I wanna “preserve” it as it was (Idk.) Thanks!

Is unconventional necessarily incorrect? It seems to have been chosen because it makes it cleaner and easier to read than if it were notated differently. Am I wrong that a different way of notating it would be more difficult? I find sudden clef changes jarring, for example

@@Persun_McPersonson i didnt make the rules talk to Guido d’Arezzo- and though it is more conventional in this use, it most of the time is not, and will make it more cluttered. But at the end of the day it doesnt really matter cause its the same notes regardless of how its written

@@Persun_McPersonson Although I do agree that changing clefs makes it harder to read music (in my opinion at least), it is "proper" music notation. 🤷

I tried to mimic a classic rag in some, if not, most parts of it and in more classic rags, they didn’t really use those staccatos on every other left hand beat. But thanks! Maybe in another piece.
