I had 60 vig, 50 end and 60 arcane, the rest were default samurai starter class stats I think. Talismans were the Dragoncrest Greatshield, Double headed turtle, Ritual Shield and Golden Braid. Uchi was occult affinity.

The ash of war is Piercing Fang, my stats were: Level 135 60 vig 20 mind 33 end 50 strength 26 dex the rest were unlevelled

You have to dodge early, and to get more time you can dodge at the right of his first attack so the second one came later, and at his right if you get enough far, there’s a chance that the attack end on top of you. The first one you dodge it because you were under his sword, making without my previous advice almost frame perfect. Thanks for the sub btw I appreciate it !!!

You can even avoid WFD if you were in close rage by that sprint tech. First of all, you need some blocking frames for immediate spring; second, you need to jump right in time when she touches the ground.

Remember that she will almost always perform WFD after getting critically hit (Either by guard break or parry it doesnt matter, after raising up from the ground she will perform it if you are close to her)

If you find yourself at a closer distance than medium, you can still sprint and jump as she does the first flurry. I’m not sure what the exact timings are but you can at the very least heavily mitigate damage that way.

What affinity are you using on it and what RL/stats?

Heavy affinity, can't remember what level I was but it was appropriate for the fight - like 100-120? Something like that. This was on a Claymore only run of the whole game, so stats would have been just pumped into STR with whatever I felt needed for VIT/END. I don't really min max builds, too lazy.

I used this strategy as well, I would always keep med distance and to quick run ins with giant crusher and then roll away keeping distance throughout the fight

I live by these words: Give me piercing fang on a keen claymore and I can knock over a god damn double decker bus. Most reliable combo in the game to me.

@@QuixoticCosmos makes piercing fang do more damage, at least in my testing. If you match an ash of war with the correct affinity that it comes with, it hits harder. Like Bloody Slash, if you put it on an occult affinity it doesn’t hit as hard if you compare it to a blood affinity.

Fighting her after years and many playthroughs of just skipping her with a Royal Knights Resolve Claymore build as I prep for DLC. Was getting so pissed last night that I was thinking of respeccing just for this fight. Your video made me think otherwise. See so many people talking about baiting waterfowl dance with throwing knives or resorting to other weird methods. Maybe it’s after playing every other souls game melee-only, but I just refuse. Gonna beat this amputee leukemia patient with claymore only if it’s the last thing I do.

Hell yes brother! I know how you feel - the first time I beat her I was so frustrated that I resorted to summoning (something which I never do in fromsoft games). I regretted it so much that I vowed that I would master her fight. Frag her good!

you don't need to do anything fancy for waterfowl, just quickly get in and out with attacks, keep at least a meter away from her when not attacking and just run and jump to avoid first flurry

If you’re still having trouble I’d recommend using vow of the indomitable it’s a shield weapon art that basically allows you to ignore waterfowl dance but you will take a little damage doesn’t have enough I-frames for the first flurry

@@seanylewl Beat her this morning! Did it on a really sloppy run but she only waterfowled once in her first phase, really lucky RNG. After years of refusing to fight her any way other than summonless/melee-only, finally did it. Pretty elated. Masochistically I want to fight her again because I’m quite honestly still terrible at dodging waterfowl dance. Happy to be a part of the Malenia-Melee-Only Club!

The only thing I can’t consistently figure out in this fight is the waterfowl when you’re right on top of her. I’ve seen people run in circles to throw off the first flurry, but I can’t seem to get it to work for some reason. You did a great job with it.

For the run in circles strat, you have to imagine there is an invisible column that extends below her while she is in the air (because there is). You have to run around that. It's definitely not easy
