I have one - not bad as an electric-assist soarer. Quite rapid through the air, doesn't slow down very well, and not desperately efficient as a thermal soarer - it is too heavy for the wing area with a 3S2200 lipo. With a smaller battery, you have to add lead to get the c of g somewhere near the recommended spot. The fat fuselage is difficult to hold, for launching. I glued a patch of sand-paper on each side, to give me some grip on the slippery plastic. I enlarged the side openings for the flap and aileron 'Y' leads, to make them easier to use, wthout needing tweezers to capture them! On it's second launch, it 'threw' a folding prop blade, and I had to buy a new pair. The blade sheered off at the folding pivot.

Subscribed ! Oh man that was beautiful. The plane is gorgeous and the country side magnificent ! You are so fortunate to have such a wonderful place to fly. I am in an area that does not have a lot of free area for launch and land. But I try to make do with what we have here. I have a small 3 meter sail plane and I would like to ask if you would be so kind to let me know the Brand and model of the video camera you used on the wing. I do a search on Google for "Mini Action Camera" and all I get is a bunch listings for GoPro and other cameras that are to big for a small glider. I would also like to use it for motion detected close-ups of birds at my feeder. So a fixed focus ring that I could gently remove the spot of glue that locks the focus ring, essentially making it a free focus ring wouyld be ideal. This is what I did with my old $35 "RC Wing Cam" that I had for 10 years. It recently stopped working. But they don't make them anymore, they were bought out by GoPro ! So I am looking for a: Small wing camera with, Video/Photo, motion detect activation, and ability to hack the focus ring making it an adjustable focus. Any tips or leads would be very appreciated. Thank you for the wonderful video. Thank you again. Lyle B

Hello Pierre, I'm living in the same area than you (close to Grenoble) and learning (again, last time was in the 90's) how to fly RC gliders at 45. I discovered the Alien with this video a year ago. Having recently flown several small foam gliders for training, then Dream Flight Alula, then I got to try a 2 axis1m F3K. But this F3K seems really optimized for thermal on the flat, on the slope I think it will be limited to very "soft" wind conditions. The problem I have when I go hiking is that I have to carry several models of different sizes, because it is still difficult for me to anticipate the wind conditions. So I'm looking for a model that could do both F3K and slope, even with stronger winds ~30-35 kph. In your opinion, is the Alien suitable for a "beginner" like me that knows the basics, but has a lot to learn ? With 250gr and 15gr/dm2 wing load, can it be a rather good F3K on the flat ? Or F3K is just the icing on the cake, for a wing designed primarily for slope ? The other options I have found (for beginner and affordable) are the 1m Hawk from OA composites, or the Stiletto Lift, 1m20 from Jim-Aero, with split-wings. Ps: as a long time hiker, when I've been looking for slopes I ended in the same spots than you : Connest, Pierre Percée, Sénépy, Glandon, Beaumont... I also know the Puy de Manse ;-)
