Gotta be honest, I really like how this brings up how siblings are treated differently by the mother while also including a change of pace from the usual "sibling rivalry" thing I grew up with as a Filipino-American. Siblings actually helping each other out without it being like they owe each other is something I truly missed out on.

so basically younger brother is mostly a spoiled little ass because his mother loves him more and she treats his older sister like a slave. gotta love child abuse and neglect masked by a story of siblings working together
@yamataichul Жыл бұрын
She's the older one and also she's expected to get married or settled sooner than teens from other countries. Not everything is child abuse but it sure is favoritism. Also I've seen in my country as well, this dismissive behavior is more for the teen to grow a spine later, even the ice cream bit where the younger brother was expected to take the credit for buying ice cream it could be for her to "swallow her pride". Is messed up, but when you're bound to tradition toxic trades could either keep people in line and "virtuous" or be seen as weak or bad for complaining, aka for not keeping that tradition/ respect of your ancestors alive the way your parents see fit. This short is a glimpse in the life of an average relatively well off Filipino family, they could not see community without some of these messed up things springled between. Luckily the short is in a way about healing, the sister opened up and the brother was happy to help her (the mother's spoiling didn't get to him)

Yeah the oldest sister dynamic of being the third parent sucks and is an inherently toxic role to put on your kid. It’s unfortunately common so a lot of people will excuse it happening because that’s “tradition” even though it comes at the expense of the child’s childhood. Ex: I am the eldest daughter of a Filipino family and my parents just aren’t there when it comes to parenting. They tell me to do it instead of asking my older brother.

Lowkey teared up a bit. My younger brother loved to please my parents bc he grew up with them being super affectionate - had so many instances where I’d put the work in for something and he’d just be the messenger but get all the credit. I’d something went wrong I’d be blamed. Shit sucked lol
