One interesting thing I have gotten so far from the messaging of this anime is the theme of 'the ends justifys the means' logic, and how the world and system reinforces this. He _has_ to follow the values of the 'system' so he _has_ to essentially abandon who he originally was and what he originally believed in to climb the system. But in a way I see the loss of self as a loss in general. The webtoon seems to be creating scenarios to justify this (sick mom/he's the breadwinner/the system gave me no choice/this is the way society is etc...). It seems like train of logic that mirrors the people our society overall - the ends defines the means and compassion and humanity will not get you to the top, being ruthless will, and everyone is the same so not playing the game as a predator means you are the prey and that there is no alternative. The top is the place to be, where you will achieve your dreams, and everything you desire including gaining social prestige and validation is there, so I MUST climb up the social ladder by any means possible. I do expect that from a SK webtoon, since that's how their system operates, very myopic. I don't expect deeper introspection from most anime these days since most are about physical development, but the total soul change Jin Woo went through I couldn't help but notice what message it was trying to send about his former self and seems to be a reflection of what most people who were attracted to this anime feel about themselves if they are the 'original jinwoo' in their own lives - the 'compassion' is a bothersome 'weakness' and in the way of their personal progression and ascent. Power fantasies bread and butter is this very 'self-dissatisfaction' sentiment in their fans...A lot of media is moving away from reforcing this type of messaging (e.g. everything everywhere all at once, Vinland Saga), but anime or should I say webtoons and isekais is sinking into this even deeper. I'm not submerged in the anime communities at all, so I'm looking at this anime from a different perspective entirely because obviously deeper conversation and critique with fans these days is impossible, which obviosuly happens when you can't seperate such mediums from your own identity. It always fasincates me why certain anime becomes popular when it seems to be basic in its premise and even flat in many cases. Because it is almost always more than a surface level reason. But such anime avoids critique because of the high (hype train) the fans experience that they don't want to get off.

“When it comes to culture wars, Matt Walsh is the kind that revels in constant fighting.” You express so well what I’ve always felt about these podcasters-Knowles, Stuckey, Shapiro and the like. I mean, the stuff they expound on are just some random freaks and wierdos in the far left trying to make them look like the ultimate boogeyman just like the far left spokesmen- Phil Vischer, Kristen du Mez, Anthea Butler and the like) have a habit of making Evangelicals (so called Christian Nationalism) look like the ultimate boogeyman. They’re all so shrill and tone deaf, they could disappear and I would never miss them. If you listen to reasonable people debate with him they might show him how their's other reasonable views out there but he is always forced to reject it because it doesn't line up exactly with what he and the others ideologues are espousing. More cynically his paycheck is telling him he shouldn't understand other views.

I don't think your a grifter, I think Your honest, hurt, and angry. The willingness to walk away from money you mentioned in the last video I watched kind of proves that. I myself am enraged, and concerned for his children. Ive seen what drugs can do to people, the aftermath of it, and the hold it can have even nearly 15 years later. When I choose friends IRL I choose the people who encourage me to improve, and keep away from self destructive addictions.

Omg you mentioned Bruce Almighty. I literally had the exact same thought 😅 Edit: Watched the The Writer's Block video on Wish after this & they pair up so well. One talks about what the message was supposed to be & how it failed, while the other talks about what it ended up being & how that's a dangerous message. So next time ppl comment 'You didn't get the message/point of the movie' it's cause the movie failed to deliver it🤦 This movie has no message cause there are so many jumbled up messages, & this video just describes how it comes across because of that. So yes the message about 'holding on to your wishes & achieving them on your own instead of giving it up & forgetting the hard/impossible wish for better peace of mind' is supposed to exist but it doesn't cause the movie fails to establish it. The characters are poorly done, the plot is poorly done & the message is butchered because of it 😓

I want you to know that something positive came out of your videos (for me personally). Your story, not Nick's, really inspired me. My 8 year old daughter wants to start a slime shop. My wife wants to start an apothecary shop. I'm 35 and my skillset regarding SEO and advertising online are, well, outdated. I myself work 80 hours+ driving for multiple gig apps, and you've shown me several possible paths to success. It's obvious that what is going with Nick deeply upsets you, and for that I'm sorry. I will be placing an order this week. I will be praying for you brother.

My issue with solo leveling is how inconsistent the emotional narrative is. Sung is, simply put, unlikable, but, unlike many other characters from other shows, he isn't unlikable because he has a characteristic or flaw that makes you dislike them (for example, a character who is selfish, egotistical, manipulative and so on)...no, he's unlikeable because he's a blank sheet. There's really nothing to him. While the idea of someone who really struggled with self esteem and always being seen as the weakling, using his pent up resentment as a tool for revenge and personal advancement has potential on paper...it was awfully executed. At the beggining he clearly struggles with confidence and self perception, while being very aware of the injustice of the social system around him. But then, after leveling up a lil bit, he magically becomes confident and all his resentment towards society and people magically disappear? No mental breakdowns? No sight of any emotional struggle whatsoever? Even if you were able to conveniently level up, you would still-as a human being- feel a turmoil of emotions: the change in self perception going from weak to strong, wondering why you needed to be strong to have self respect in the first place, fear that your advantage could disappear, anxiety for upcoming challenges, anxiety for not completing the quests in time-hell, even just being annoyed due to having to do them everyday. Resentment towards those who used to treat you differently when you were weak. Deeper reflections on how his life could have been without the system. But not a single one of these aspects was explored. His reactions to things are SO DULL, and theh become dull out of the blue. Truth is, someone who is weak irl and bulks up at a gym, won't magically become confident just because they worked out. But that's how they narrated it. Even his motives for ranking up (paying for his mom's treatment and sending his sister to college) make no sense. When has he ever thought of his mother? Has he ever had an endearing monent of pain or longing for losing his mom? Does he ever think of her or his sister when he is in near-death situations? And his sister? It seems like his only way of showing love to her was buying her food. He is never seen feeling proud of her, or worried for her. It feels like an AI tried to make a character who displays human emotions but failed since they themselves aren't able to feel them. I feel like this really had to be said. Plus, the anime feels incredibly rushed.

There is no reason to believe he abused his children. There is reason to suspect he may have. Elsewhere in the comments, you refer to it as a "police reporr". It isn't. Its a warrant application. Anyone can walk into the station and tell the cops anuthing at all and it can go on a warrant application. It is not an establishment of fact. It an establishmemt of probability to justify a search. Did Nick abuse his kids? Maybe. But you're clearly out of your depth in interpreting what you're reading. You don't know what nick's kids told anyone, and none of the charges reflect a claim of this kind of abuse. There are valid reasons to terminate friendship with Nick, but don't misreport unverified rumor as fact. They may be true, but that's all they are at the moment, unverified rumors.

wild how disney has been completely fucking it up with the messages lately, to the point of being harmful. first it was with raya and the stupid ass "trust someone whos given you literally no reason to since they betrayed you multiple times 'cause maybe itll work this time!" message, now this. id like modern studios to know that pretending like the world isnt fucked up doesnt help anyone. and it certainly does not help children, who are going to have to deal with it at some point. not everybody is a good person, not everyone is to be trusted, discrimination exists, we dont live in a utopia. those arent pleasant truths, but theyre necessary because people will do what they want to do, above all. youre better off preparing children for how to deal with it instead of making them blissfully ignorant. if youre gonna make your kid watch anything, make 'em watch avatar the last airbender or something. disney doesnt know what the fuck theyre doing.

Welcome to Texas bro. I noticed the same thing . On September 29, 2023 he had a blowout with Eric July. The next day a buddy asked if I'd seen the stream and that it was a total trainwreck. I said that I did see it and that Nick had been unraveling since his last vacation. I mentioned that Nick did a stream when he got back and started going on about mental health, he had been in bad place, needs to be less degenerate, and was drinking too much. I told my buddy it was at the moment I knew something has changed and it was gonna go downhill. Then Nick went from Rackets to Drunkieta at Mach 4.

I think you're missing the point though. This is a fantasy of what life looks like when everyone is their own god, instead of what life really looks like with our real God. Your analysis of this movie is pretty close to the reason why I hate Horton Hears a Who. The villain in that movie is just a mom who loves her kid and wants to protect him from bad influences. The entire movie is an allegory about people who homeschool their children and teach them about God. The movie turns that into an evil idea.

I gave it a pass b/c it was a weekend night and figured he we chilling for the weekend. I stopped watching after the next one. I could not for the life of me figure out how his platform was so big. I don’t think remaking a story that has already been filmed is always a bad thing. But it has to be well done. The way you do this is explore parts of the book that weren’t in the first movie or expound on characters that were only briefly mentioned while keeping within the spirit and style of the book.
