It's cool to see his foot technique for curiosity sake. I play heel up but learned, for me at least, that it's it doesn't work well trying to play double bass. I have seen videos where it's heel up and the heel shimmies left/right a bit for double bass capability but it hard to break a playing technique one uses there whole life. Any case, Heel up I think is the way to go when playing punk, single pedal. Also, does anyone play where they don't rest the beater on the head when not hitting? I've read stuff on that and just can't see that working out.

He plays surprisingly high heel up. Also he stops playing his right foot when he fills I noticed. I have never seen that before. Unless it is me that is unusual but I keep my foot striking the quarter note. I thought everyone did. Always interesting to see how other drummers play. To play at this pace for so long is phenomenal. What amazes me even more is how Josh Freese can be away from it for so long and then slot right back into it. Once I moved out of punk and ended up in more prog metal bands I found I could still play Teenage Kicks speed punk but anything more and I was out after a few mins and I run a 5K regularly but I run easily and leisurely. I imagine Byron runs a 5K in sprint mode 😁

This man is a beast as he keeps that up for 90 mins. He must have excess energy levels as he barely breaks into a sweat. I saw seen people cover Pennywise and by the end they are soaked. Also he plays at these speeds in a loose style. Very Impressive. A completely different skill to five stroke rolls grooving on the ride and snare but a skill that is imperative to the success of Pennywise as no one else can play this fast and this smooth.
@heftyalan11525 жыл бұрын
I saw him take a few deep breaths so he is human then. He makes playing this fast seem easy but believe me it is not. I used to play along to Perfect People and needed a lie down after 3 mins. Byron McMackin is an athlete as much as a drummer. The most naturally fast drummer I have ever seen and don't reply with metal drummers they use 2 bass drums. My dog could play fast with a second bass drum.

What he is playing isn't that complicated but the speed he plays at is another matter entirely. Interesting he stops his bass drum on some of the fills. Never picked that up before. Most drummers would just play quarters through the fill. He is the most consistent drummer I have seen playing at these speeds.
