I knew guys that were in this. A MAJ named Whitted (a fine man) told me in 70 at LZ Ross that there were 700 USMC Ks and WIAs and they broke the casualties down to two weeks not to upset the American public. Incidentally, the USMC did NOT take prisoners in some of the actions

I was in Afghanistan at this exact time and it sucked. This brought it back big time
i was part of the 30,000. i knew this war was bullshit in 2009 while i was swimming in the helmand river with mk-19 and m2 overwatch. you cant win a war against a tactic. terror is a tactic. a war built on lies. like all of them.

The Afgans always blamed the Taliban for forcing them to fight but the Taliban would always send small teams to intimate the elders in the beginning. .The people in the village could easily took over those small teams and requested helo from the Americans or Afghan government afterwards for later conflict with rhe Taliban.

I knew we would loose. Served Army 93-98. Was 24 when I got out. After 9/11. Was asked to rejoin. I knew my military history. I read every book when I was in. I told the Recruiter and my wife. GF at the time. “ The Russians lost. Why would we do any better? I was right over 20 years later. I pity all Afghanistan vets..
