Girl, as a korean person, this is hardly a discrimination... foreigners tend to make money in korea and spend it in their own country - foreign workers for instance, which means foreign currency outflow. This affects the relationship between korea and the states, our economy, and diplomatic issues. In contrast, korean people use the dollar account to make money and get the foreign currency into the country, and therefore strengthening the economy

Why the hell is South Korea practicing capitol controls on USD accounts? Which is what your justification is by the way. Not letting someone get the usd account when you think it will result in a net dollar outflow is just a backdoor way to capitol control. But why… South Korea has a 65 billion dollar trade surplus with the USA. Y’all have plenty of dollars to the point that y’all’s foreign direct investment in usd in the US exceeds our FDI in South Korea by like 40 billion. Y’all have so many dollars you have nothing to do with it but shove it back into our economy…. Your argument doesn’t make sense. Plus, capital outflows haven’t mattered very much since Bretonwoods. Lastly, we have a free trade agreement. Can’t imagine that doesn’t prohibit or restrict capital controls. So y’all decide to backdoor instead of respecting the treaty intentions? Really? Give her the darn USD account…

@Tempest-ec2nn search for IMF in korea. It was a national disaster caused by currency outflow. Thousands of people ended up poor, homeless, or even killed themselves and their family members to get out of the hell. And it happened only a few decades ago! The whole country is still traumatized, and the government is stacking dollar up out of anxiety, or at least partially.

why say “as a korean person” as if that gives you more credibility 😭 you’re more biased as it’s your own country, that’s just a fact. she’s also clearly not american, so “their own country” does not apply.
