Lovely approach and pose. Are you using a life model? Also will the arms need hollowing for firing at this size? Thanks for sharing your very informative and interesting approach.

No i use photo reference. I'd love to use models but they very expensive. One day. On this sculpture i didnt hollow it out, but even when i do i try not to hollow the arms its too thin and it doesn't really matter that much. if you do hollow it out just hollow out the larger areas and vent them to the bottom. But on something this small i can do a slow fire even with the sculpture solid and it will not break.

Gorgeous work. As for what you're trying to say... I'm quite sure it's a statue of, as my colleague says, the 'last mistress' - hence the symbols of disease, death and decay. And indeed, at the time that you've sculpted the work, she was doing quite well for herself, with the twenty thousand that died in our country alone (more to mismanagement than the disease itself, but that's another story).

BW Paraffin is absolutely AMAZING. it has a very Stretchy feel when heated. Hell, if you added a few Crayons and a little Bee's wax to the BW Paraffin, you could EASILY Sculpt with just those!

Nice work. Do you end up firing this piece, and if so, how do you keep it from exploding in the kiln? Do you hollow it out or do you let it sit and dry for awhile? If so how long does it take to dry?
