    I usually struggle with "why did I fail this combo?" Because I don't know, no matter how many times I repeat I don't improve, I get frustrated and quit. I wish I was able to playback my combo attempt in slowmo, with exact moments where I pressed the button. Maybe with possibility to have it played at the same time as sampler, so I can compare. Finally, the game should recognize common issues and tricky parts, and be able to explain to me what to do. For example if I have to delay a button press for a reason, I want to know that I have to do it, and what reason is there. It's really stupid when I try to look up the struggles other players have with the same combo online, and people failing at the same spot as I am... and others are just writing "this is easy, I did it on first try". Great, I don't care if you can't give any feedback! Oh, and being able to divide combos into parts, and then learn each section separately would be cool... It could work in a way where CPU does part of the combo for you, and then you continue. Well, anyway, I'm not a big fan of combo trials. The only ones I did actually like were Strive and Granblue for reasons mentioned in this video.

    To me the best teaching tutorial I have ever seen in a Fighting game was not even mention here and is from Street Fighter 6 ..........WORLD TOUR MODE, not only you learn the basics, you applied all the knowleage you learn to find and discover the best normals and special moves, types of controller and you get NPC that range from too easy to practice what you have learn, to complex and difficult to learn the advance tech you comeout when you actually get gud, is an entire RPG kinda experience that once you finish, confident I can say you can jump online after try trials and training more with the actual characters and at the very least you will probably get GOLD rank.

    Yeah this video came out before SF6 and I think WT mode is good if you're starting at absolutely 0 fighting game skills. If you're mid level, it's too tedious how the game sticks you with Modern for a whole chapter and locks certain things like parry and drive rush behind certain missions. Other than that, it's fantastic, I agree

    "Learning styles" is a cope for people who have trouble with education and there is very very little in the way of actual evidenciary substance to suggest that anyone is specifically a "visual learner" or otherwise. Developing a basic understanding or intuition of a subject might first be achieved through some mixture of the "learning styles", but the reality is that everyone only truly learns anything through DOING IT and then DOING IT AGAIN and then DOING IT AGAIN, aka repetition, that's it.

    You're completely ignoring the fact though that pricing things lower for lower economic regions means then that the developers of the game are not getting money returned to them equivalent to the economy of where they live. Like, take for example Brazil. Since the average salary in Brazil is right around $2000 Real per month we can extrapolate the regional price for a AAA game to be set at around $60 Real if we are trying to price things relative to the local economy of Brazil, but that $60 Real when sent back to a US developer, for example, is the equivalent of only about $11, a 5X loss. How exactly then is it fair to tell a US based dev, especially if it's an indie dev and not someone likely to sell millions upon millions of copies of a game, that they should price their games down relative to the buying power of weaker economic regions when the fiscal return from those regions isn't going to be enough to compensate for the effort put into development relative to the devs local economy? I mean it sucks for nations with weaker economies, sure, but that still doesn't justify asking the devs to eat shhht and value their work lower relative to their economic locale. The ONLY time that regional pricing like that is moral is in the event that the dev themselves lives in one of those weaker economic regions such that the pricing for richer nations results in a net gain for the developer while not resulting in unreasonable costs for those richer nations, but besides that it really isn't morally valid to screw the dev over just to make things cheaper for a subset of specific foreign consumers.

    combo trials are actually what helped me get into fighting games and eventually get really good. but I feel like just my cocky playstyle probably helped. I just did combo trials to learn how to do the inputs as a little challenge and once I felt confident enough I learned actual combos for my character. so I just hopped online and tried to land them and practicing with the trials just helped me be very consistent with it. like bc I was so comfortable with the inputs early on I was just stomping people in lower ranks in SFV and just skipped a bunch of ranks.

  • @Gerd0
    @Gerd010 күн бұрын

    As much as I understand why the inputs are the way they are and how elegant it can be at higher level play, they are absolutely 90% of the reason why fighting games will remain niche. It can take the average person dozens of hours to really get the hang of anything more involved than a QC, and dozens more to get the hang of doing it against an actual opponent. That's the amount of time one could play multiple other games start to finish. For most that's well beyond just being a matter of dedication and starts becoming a question of whether or not they even want to be dedicated in the first place. Can you really blame someone for not wanting to try when they can easily spend over 100hrs stuck in button mashing phase where none of the good stuff starts clicking? It really is an absurd barrier to entry.

  • @qmanchu
    @qmanchu9 күн бұрын

    I don't blame anyone for not liking the barrier to entry. It's also why I don't mind things like Modern controls. I think the issue is being rid of moron inputs altogether or just making them generic. The whole point of them is to make characters feel unique on the screen but also on your hands. Essentially, there's a happy medium and I don't think it's wring to have something to invest heavily in

    One example you missed that I love, pokken. In pokken many characters have release moves, and they're often a key portion of their gameplan, or sometimes it's just an extra tool to use, like darkrai's ]X[ which is a buff using a resource you gain with him, or chandelure's ]X[ which makes your debuffs go away sooner (pretty useful since her reversal debuffs you). But there are 2 characters that their entire moveset revolve around release attacks, gengar and garchomp. Garchomp has his ]X[, which by its own is just a brutal antiair and combo finisher, but if you release the button in the air it becomes a two part move, first dives down, popping the opponent up, and then does an upwards drill. However, if you use this move low to the ground, either by inmediately using it after jumping or using it falling from a jump, it only does the first dive, which as I said launches opponents, allowing for his most damaging combos. It's also a great pressure tool, as it's +4 on shield. The catch is, of course, that you have to hold down the button, and in pokken, if you are holding X, you can't use either X or A, as if you do X+A you get the counter attack. That makes it impossible to use 5[A]>j]X[ in neutral, and tbf, it would be pretty busted as 5A is a very big burst option, and it would allow for a get in for free tool that also combos and is plus on block. To get around this, you have a few options, all revolving around situations where you can't use counter attack, like in a chain of attacks, his run stance or in the air. That's why one of his most common combo starters and pressure secuences is 5Y>5[A]>j]X[. Gengar has a pretty similar dynamic but I don't think it's as interesting as chomp

    my least favorite combo trials are the ones from Ultimate MvC3. I find them needlessly complicated more than any other, and unusable outside of practice mode anyway, so what's the point? I don't even need those big combos to win in really any match, and I can create combos on my own that are more practical and easier to pull off, even if they're less "technically" impressive

  • @qmanchu
    @qmanchu15 күн бұрын

    What's interesting is that MVC3 has some of my favorites because for them, it's pretty obvious who they're for. The trials of MVC3 are actually trials. They're not practical, and they're not there to teach you much about the character, except for the first few. The later advanced ones are there to show off how insane the game can be. They use specific assists or special character mechanics, and sometimes even mechanical exploits like wave dashing so that hardcore players have something to spend time on that's not just matches and training mode

    I recognize the debate surrounding motion inputs. To me, motion inputs seem to reward dedication, but not everyone has the time or patience to master them. Consequently, many players may quit when they realize that muscle memory is insufficient for actions requiring sniper-like precision, such as launching a simple fireball. Capcom acknowledged this and introduced Modern controls featuring one-button supers, among other adjustments. Other developers have made similar concessions. They understand that difficult gameplay can deter players, so they've designed mechanics and control schemes that are more accessible to newcomers, encouraging them to stay longer and potentially invest in the game.

    I loved the guilty gear art style so much but I couldn't get into the game after i criticized the game on reddit and was bullied out i decided to stop trying. I despices what fighting games are 1v1, its not fun, not social, and pubish you for losing. If there was a way to fix it i think AI combatants can help a lot but there needs to be more rewards that are measurable rather than improving skill because its arditrary. One thing to not on steam the player count steam for guilty gear is 2-3 thousand players which represents 7-9% of the player count, which is outbeat by a game like eldne ring with 12-15% of its total peak.

  • @peepsbates

    18:08 Very similar to Beast Over in Megaman Battle Network 6. You can 'Beast Out' once per match which gives you access to what is effectively a super 'mode' for your character that last 3 turns of the game (Since every few seconds you can pull new 'cards' (Battlechips.) and start a new turn.). After that, if you 'Beast Out' again, you enter 'Beast Over' where you're invincible for the turn and the AI takes control of your moves. After that, your HP starts to plummet all the way down to 1HP, so it's a super that you can gamble with or use for a guaranteed save on the final turn of a match (Which leads to a damage judge as to which player has won, if both players are still alive.)

    For me it was Kagura in BBCF, and I've never seen a character like him before. On top of being the only dedicated charge character, his special button (a button that does spmething unique for each character) is to enter a stance based on what direction is being input when you press it, giving 3 stances, one for neutral, one for down, and one for forward, with each stance having 3 options making them nuts option selects, which can cancel into a different stance to make confirms easier, and they can all be done midair. Hes also a big button char and decimates life bars with his massive great sword, his OD is an install that on top of giving him a huge damage boost, allows you to dash and special cancel from every stance attack on hit or block. These stances make for the perfect time to charge his specials, having access to a sonic boom, a flash kick, a jumping charge with up down that acts as an instant overhead and has a 20f charge window instead of 45 and also gives a hard knockdown, AND a reversal super that requires charging back and doing a half circle forward. The timing on his charges allows him 10 frames of leniency, allowing him to close small gaps before unleashing his attack, and he can charge at literally any time, including during hitstun, blockstun, superflash, during other moves, or even before the round starts. Just a rediculously fun character that really feels like your lugging around a sword taller and wider than you

    Funnily enough, the Smash I enjoyed the most was actually 3DS. It mostly came down to the game modes, like it’s version of Classic mode, and I really loved playing Smash Run. I’m definitely way more casual when it comes to Smash Bros. honestly, but I can go all out in a match with friends. Personally I wish there was more single player content in Ultimate, something more than World of Light, but I’m most likely an outlier. I’m not opposed to competitive Smash, it’s just not my thing.
