    One of the best, if not the best, Meccano models I've ever seen. What's that one green piece doing in there ruining the colour scheme?😁😁😁

  • @craiglonghurst

    I originally built the frame in mid green but rebuilt in zinc. Don’t worry - I’ve replaced the remaining green parts with zinc since SkegEx 😊

    Full video with explanation and demonstration: kzread.info/dash/bejne/p5Wno8hvZMm8cZc.html This working model of the machine used by the Germans in World War II to encrypt and decrypt secret messages was built by Craig Longhurst and is shown here at International Meccano Model Show in 2024. It came in at 2nd place in the Best Model competition that year. Someone get this man some depleted Uranium so that the counterweight may be shortened, enabling the fighter to go straight up (and over).

    Mind boggling Meccano skillz. What next, a Lorenz 'Fish' cipher machine? And then the Colossus to break it? :) Well done Craig!

    @@ZXGuesser A Bombe might be possible, (it's basically 32 Enigmas all going at once) but it would be difficult to make 3,200 valves out of Meccano 😁😁

    When the back cover is fitted, I think the automaton looks a bit deformed. The mechanism, if rearranged, might fit into a slimmer torso. At present, there's room for a large rechargeable battery!

    Awesome model. Is this made out of erector set? Was it made for Thomas Heatherwick?

  • @LondonMeccanoClub
    @LondonMeccanoClub3 ай бұрын

    Yes, it is Meccano (Erector was the US brand name until relatively recently). It wasn't made for Heatherwick but his studio know about it and interviewed Alan about it for their website (that video is also on this channel too.)

    How were Meccano parts fitted onto the mounting boards (sheets) at the factory, with thin wire or with string? Was the wire/string continuous throughout all parts or were similar parts wired/strung to a board/sheet independently from other similar parts?

    That is one superb piece of work. I'm interested to see you've adapted it to use a modern can motor. Love it - really good. I also very much like that veteran car displayed beneath it - if I am not mistaken it is copied from a prize winner in a late 1920's/early 30's Meccano Magazine.

    1:38 now THIS model is cool! If I was the builder, I would put some sort of plastic shroud around the boat to make it so it could actually float without any issues. That tractor is also really neat.
