    I think this video is misleading. It is important to appreciate that ASHP technology is well established and continues to improve. The system that this video describes is perhaps relevant to an American approach and confuses Air-to-Air with Air-to-Water systems. As @Bajotaz points out a robust water system ASHP setup can deliver sparkling efficiency with a SCOP (Operating Performance) of at least over 3 ie for every x1 watt of power consumed, the ASHP can convert this to 3 watts of energy/heat. Standard air-to-air ASHPs deliver SCOPs of at least 4. Two points that Antony makes in the video are totally wrong a. Maintenance. Ridiculous. Compared to a boiler or a compressor driven air conditioner, there are fewer components as they are sealed units with controllers. b. Yes ASHPs will work harder when temperatures drop but its ridiculous to suggest that they lose effectiveness and struggle to perform below 25F/-3C! ASHPs are the standard technology used across Northern Europe and can extract heat from the air to temperatures below -30C! Even if you are watching this in the States, I suggest you look up @HeatGeek for an independent and research/evidence based channel of information to educate yourselves on, and remember ASHPs come in TWO modes: air-to-air and air-to-water

    Exactly! Unless you have a dedicated return loop to the water heater, don't install a recirculating pump. Because we really don't want hot water coming out at us on a call for cold water either. Your residence is either set up for a recirculating pump or it's not. If it's not, have a dedicated return to the water heater put in right from the farthest fixture.

    Navien is the worst and the fact that you have a plumber telling you that navien is a good product shows you the problem with the world , when the guy that has to help you is trying to screw you… first the navien heat exchanger will leak and they will find anything to denied the claim and the motherboard will catch on fire and then they will say it’s under warranty and they will charge you 1200 in labor cost and that’s every 3 years that it’s will happen or sooner and the. You have to have it service every year by a navien certified plumber that will charge you 300 for flush and service and then you have to replace the igniter at least 1 a year and that will set you back 250 for the call and more for the parts and labor

    WTF? I just bought a bosch propane 7 ltr. water heater for $200 (on sale at h.d. in Baja), includes installation, now a 5 yr. warranty. Great for washing dishes and a shower (temps. here are 50' f. - 90'f). One could do the install themselves. My 30 gal. american std. (>1992) started leaking, great excuse to go tankless (I should have gone tankless 15 yrs. ago). No need to have 30 gal. of water sitting around at 120'f. Now if I was stuck with a family of >4 people that had skank issues, living in >60% r.h. and > 80' f. having to shower more than every 2 days and had to change clothes more than every 2 days, yeah, a 40 gal. tank of hot water would make a bit more sense. That would still be a do it yourself install, $800? plus <$100 parts, and a 1 - 3 hr. job including buying the parts, so, ~$500 labor max. or a new install at 3 - 6 hrs., but you do you. 40 gal. propane = ~$70.00

    Hi my tankless heater showing E003, I replaced the ignitor and can hear a faint noise repeat, as if a valve is trying to open. Sparks are observable from the viewing window; however, there is no ignition. Cleaned the filters, and bled the gas line and tapped on the pipes incase of blockage, still no success. Suggestions? - replacing the PCB board seems useless as it appears to be a gas supply issue.

    Is the exterior unit (condenser) the same as a normal A/C unit? Is the difference the actual interior “furnace unit”. I’m just a DIY’er and honestly don’t know. The reason I’m asking is my original heat pump compressor failed (28 yrs old) and I’m looking to replace it.

    The heat pump is simply the REFRIGERATION process. Refrigeration can appear to be like magic, meaning, the efficiency can be 300% or more. The amount of energy pumped can be 3 or more times the amount of energy required to do the pumping. The magic takes place in the condenser unit. The compressor compresses the refrigerant gas into a hot gas (not a liquid). When this hot gas flows through the condenser cooling coils, it condenses into a liquid. This change of state from a gas to a liquid is where the magic is. If the condenser cooling coils are large enough, not even a cooling fan is necessary to achieve this change of state.

    Complete and Total Bullshit! By the way, Trane and American Standard are the exactly the same thing! Carrier and Bryant are exactly the same thing. Rheem and Rudd are exactly the same thing! Lennox is the only HVAC supplier that refused to get our customers replacement parts or quote replacement systems during the Covid pandemic. The most important thing is to choose a company you can trust and has been in business for more than twenty years. Then the more basic the system the longer it will last and the cheaper the repairs will be. The EPA is mandating higher and higher efficiency standards and the result is higher cost and shorter life span . Any reputable manufacturer will include a ten year parts warranty and that should be registered through a reputable installation HVAC company. The extended heat exchanger warranties and unit replacement warranties are marketing BS because the Labor charges are so high it’s a gamble to even take advantage of them without any part warranty.

    Preventative Maintenance is one of the biggest scams going in HVAC residential. Companies send out someone to "maintain" a unit. All they are doing is taking that time to replace parts that have normal wear and saying they are "preventing" an issue from happening.

  • @terrygiordano4858
    @terrygiordano48582 ай бұрын

    Right, just like maintaining a car is a scam, you don't need to change the oil or any other parts that normally wear out. Wouldn't you rather have a little piece of mind knowing your system is operating correctly and is less likely to give out when you need it the most? Anything mechanical is subject to failure at any given time, but certain parts give signs of failure. Most people are happy to know that their system is operating as it was designed and given the confidence that there is someone there to stand behind the work they've done. Not every AC company is out to scam the customer..

    2:09 Huh... A $1500 water heater will cost over $5k installed??? Doesn't sound right unless you have major electrical work involved. If I'm just replacing a electric resistance element water heater with a heat pump water heater, the scope of work is identical.

    How loud is the 111?

  • @smlin95
    @smlin952 ай бұрын

    I had the NRCR111DV-NG. You don't hear anything when it's heating, but every time the hot water stopped flowing the power vent would turn on to clear the chamber of residual gases. It was super loud and drove me crazy. I spent a lot of time and a little bit of money (maybe $300) to figure out that I could line the interior walls and ceiling of the closet it was in with MLV (mass-loaded vinyl) to reduce the sound that was escaping including wrapping its vent pipe. It helped a lot and I stopped noticing it all the time though I could still hear it if it was quiet and I was listening for it. That was a few years ago. We're remodeling now and moving the hot water heating. Since we're moving it, I'm taking the opportunity to dump it and pick up a hopefully much quieter unit. What a waste. My neighbor has a Rinnai which seems very quiet.
