What a surprisingly compelling speech. Everything about it, his confidence, his cadence, his tone, the words he says... its weird its like he's saying a speech thay he spent hours considering how to say, but he delivers it like he was walking past and someone said "oh hey you wanna have a go on the mic?" And he was like "oh yeah i could probably whip something up, here". I hope a crowd of people roared in response to that, it was bizarrely beautiful
Who else is here hyping themselves up for the revolution?
Damn straight!
None of us are free until Palestine is free ~
Despite their efforts of straddling students with piles of debt, they keep fighting, the brave kids keep putting their bodies on the gears and on the levers to make the death machine stop.
Go students , go!!!!!
What song is this in ? I know I heard this In one but I don’t remember which one.
Lol at all of this.. Here's the news, the machine exists because it's necessary. People are too dumb to exist without it. Here's another news flash. The machine has been corrupted by the Democrat party and is now more sinister than any other time in American history. The funniest part of it all is that all of you weak liberal democrats lick the boot of the machine while simultaneously thinking you're fighting it hahahahaha. America is over. We are living in the last days of freedom.
you're so fucking funny man. The irony in your comment, if you think for a fucking second the conservative party is literally any better you're a lunatic.

An excellent speech :) Have you seen the one given by Charlie Chaplin in his 1940 movie "The great Dictator"? :)

Just heard his words in "The Box" by Threshold and had to look it up. I can totally understand why it went from Machine = Berkeley University to Machine = (US) Society.
Threshold brought me here❤
This is truer today than ever...
The Synagogue of Satan owns the machine. The time to shut it down is now, or we will wake up in a New World Order or "Moshiach" where worshiping anything other than Lucifer will be punishable by death. kzread.info/dash/bejne/ipZskryhmMXHZ6g.html
Peoples Park and Country Joe and Jim Morrison just hanging out. Stokley Carmichael and Led Zeppelin. It truly was The best of times, during the worst of times ...
And now in the home of The Free Speech Movement it's opposite day.
I want to know the context to this but a lot of it can be applied to this day

Mario is talking about being FREE which is the opposite of Communism. Communism has killed more people than the Nazi's ever could and it continues. Communists are worse than Nazi's. It has starved millions forcing human beings to resort to cannibalism in planned famines, promotes slavery, induces poverty and harvests organs from its own people. Anyone promoting Communism refuses to accept its a failed system! Educated or not, you'd have to be a delusional moron to even consider bringing that Hell on earth. Notice the arm chair communists are in free countries and will never move to the utopia's they promote? They are worse than Nazi's.
The time to put our bodies upon the gears, levers, and all the apparatus is now. If Biden signs the UN's Pandemic Treaty, freedom as we know it is over.
Mario had a lot more to do with MAGA than with communism. Communism is statist
is that the lie you tell yourself or the one that was taught to you?
If you’re right, you fight.

TO SAVE FACE HOW LOW CAN YOU GO
For those who are wondering, this speech is a reaction to the University refusing to allow Mario to set up a folding chairs and a booth on a section of the sidewalk.
One day, not being able to set up a booth on the side walk, next day it's, "Get into the gas cambers."
for those who are wondering, the table was staffed by Jack Weinberg, and was representing the Congress of Racial Equality - a nonviolent, African-American Civil Rights organization which at the time was an influential and effective venue for direct action towards desegregation. Their activities these days are less than revolutionary, but at the time they were prominent, and their harassment at the hands of police on Berkeley was no accident. It was explicitly the result of a new rule that banned political action and fundraising on campus - a rule which is obviously unjust. Both Mario's actions preceding this, and CORE setting up a table here was in protest to this rule, hence the subsequent formation of the Free Speech Movement, which Mario Savio quickly found a place of prominence in.
Thanks for the clarification.
"Dark night of my soul"
Very relevant
I first heard this sampled in a Fear Factory song (Timelessness) when I was in high-school. I heard it again more recently in a song by Eidola (Forgotten Tongues) and learned from various comment sections that it is also sampled in a Linkin Park song. Watching the original footage it is easy to see why this has been sampled so frequently. There's a powerful lyrical quality to this section of the speech and his delivery just builds momentum until he basically explodes with "...unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all". I don't know if I've ever heard a more concise and powerful metaphor describing the necessity of unified, non-violent resistance in the face of oppression and exploitation.
My first time hearing a clip of this was also from Fear Factory's "Timelessness", which was a great concept album and song. This speech always gives me chills, as true passion for truth and life in men and women seems so few and far between.

This is why I left the army. This is why there are no "good cops". This is why there are no "progressives" in the war mongering democratic party. you can't benefit from a system, and not enable that system.
Canadian Truckers took those words to heart.
Amazing how quickly they got shut down and yelled out of existence too. Almost as if they had a point and nobody around them liked it.

Now the students of Berkeley would do everything in their power to silence him. How things change.
Freedom #wethefringe
People are too afraid to talk truth to power like this now . I see it in so many friends .it is like an odious pernicious veil has descended over the minds of ordinary Americans . Complacency and convenience are now the highest virtues one can attain.
Could you give an example of this?
@@Regemony if you really can't think of a single example, it sounds like you would want to debate any example given. But sure i'll go. People seem to be content with huge wealth disparity, lack of basic rights such as housing and medical care, lack of basic job security (as other countries have), content letting the greenhouse effect destroy life as we know it and content letting the nation (and other nations) fight constant wars.
@@Regemony kids dying in schools at the hands of deranged, psychotic people every year, yet the citizens are only stripped of more and more defenses while their leaders walk around walled by armed guards. Controversy almost every single election with a ridiculous number of upsets and reshuffling being allowed every single time with no cause given. Armed guards and fences around a presidential inauguration for the first time in our history. Transportation prices skyrocketing while wages stay “competitive” at almost unlivable sums. Nobody says anything. Nobody does anything. Everyone puts their nose to the grindstone and pushes harder, or else sits back with palm outstretched to their benevolent government for handouts so they can keep existing in this new world being created for us. The few who speak out are usually crushed into silence under the weight of algorithms and militaristic social media groups. As a hoi already said, you’re probably going to debate each instance given as if to question its veracity, but I’m gonna go ahead and throw it out there anyway because I’m sick of half-truths, obfuscation, and illogical reactionary responses being the order of the day.
