Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't pile shuffling mathematically proven to be the best method for optimal card distribution (as in roughly 2 spells per land), and side shuffling after a pile shuffle just fucks it up? In other words it's not supposed to be truly random in the sense that it is reversible, but rather it's designed to be the most consistent way to draw a playable hand.
That is incorrect. Shuffling needs to be randomized, not evenly distributed. Sometimes you will draw unplayable hands, which is why you run more lands to lean the odds in your favor. Side shuffling is how you add "imperfections" to the shuffle. Sometimes it's every other card, sometimes it's 2 cards together. Through 7 shuffles you obtain reasonable randomness. Pile shuffling for a "playable hand" is akin to going to the casino and counting how many times each roulette result shows up and having the casino attendant force certain numbers to show up to "feel" random.
This will not work on my yeti cup. Any other suggestions?
A sticker over it? Yeti has porous plastic so it absorbs the ink in the nooks and crannies.
Great video!
Thanks!!!
Step 1) Grab your deck Step 2) No, not that deck. Get your mind out of the gutter. Step 3) Actually grab your deck this time. Step 4) throw at nearest wall, or any wall really. Your cards are now shuffled
Ah the old "99 pickup" method
nice cards
Thanks!
Hi @brianfediuk, do you use dragon shield inner sleeves too for your decks? or a different brand
KMC perfect fit. But honestly anything is fine
@@brianfediuk thx for your response. currently working with dragon shield perfect fits for my yugioh and vanguard decks.
What specific filter is this (designation and dimensions)? What specific car model is it (e.g. what engine does it have)?

I had one when I was a kid you’re missing the 45 record that came with it. It actually went through the whole countdown for Lyft off and some other scenarios. What’s wrong with?
I’m a one-handed gamer and I used to be able to riffle and mash shuffle. Now I can only mash shuffle, but it’s hard. Do you have any advice for us one-handed gamers?
dude thank you so much, i suck at shuffling my decks and with a few tries of your method and your explanations now i got loads better!
Happy to help!
another way to learn how to do that shuffle get a set of poker cards and practice that way also that’s how i learned how to do it
This is insane what kind of bug is that bish its an eyelash bug
ooh would you look at that doritos premium seasoning
The larger simulated portable radio similarly transformed into a small rifle. I had both.
thanks for the simple proof!
How long does it take to get this effect 🤔
It needs to go below freezing slow and steadily
do you know how to get it out of yarn?
Thanks for the video. I saw one of these toys at daycare, but I remembered it look weird and not looking exactly like a regular turtle. I remembered correctly
my playgroup builds 60 card edh deck to avoid this
I have been in the MTG scene since the last quarter of 2017 and I decided that it was time to learn how to shuffle my EDH deck that was something other than the most basic of shuffles as it always felt clunky. After stumbling across this very informative video, I now hope to add more of that 'Magic' to any and all future games with the added randomization of my decks. Thank you for the help!

Is it easier with double sleeved cards as there is a bigger "bubble" between the cards?
Yeah, and when you first sleeve them up, if you got air stuck in the sleeves, they are insanely easy to shuffle for the first few mashes
@@brianfediuk Is there an (easy) way to get that air out. I can push it out but it always comes back?
Put them into the dragon shield box. You might need to do like half in one box and half in another, then wedge unsleeved cards into the box until it is tight. Then leave it in that position for a few hours.
Thanks, I ended up using a bottle of perfume as that has alcohol in it too :)
Nice! Probably smells good too!
ok
I just got into Magic a month or so ago. I don't have any sleeves like those yet. Once I do, I'll be sure to begin practicing my shuffle. I got some weird looks with my shuffling method at last week's pre-release.
I remember when I was a kid I came across a raw chunk of dough covered in the powder in my bag and safe to say that is a memory I will never let go as every time I open a bag I am hoping for another mistake to be there 😂

Just saved me $60. ❤
Awesome! If you're feeling generous, please donate $20 to a good cause :)
0:40 "If I go backwards like this, I can undo what I just did" I found a cool solution; Don't do that part. Like, just don't do that at all, in fact. Works every time. Sorry, but that argument is next to rock bottom dumb as hell, especially when you could also similarly undo a riffle shuffle or a mash shuffle. It's not hard to do, you don't even need to be a card shark to do it. Just do exactly what you did to the stack shuffle. But the cool thing is, you can do it more than once! And it helps lose the cards.
It's not about "accidentally shuffling bad". It's about people cheating.
@@brianfediuk yeah, I figured. It still doesnt change my point. All 3 shuffle methods can easily be undone, stack shuffling isn't unique in that regard. Mash shuffle almost always results in a A, B, A, B from both piles. Not to mentione with stack shuffling its useful for breaking up any cards together, from sat a finished game to prevent your lands from being in one clump, and helps you lose them. Also unless you're dealing with card shark Mcgee you're going to notice if the other guy is carefully picking his cards apart. If this is about potential cheating, why not focus on spotting it, rather than how you yourself can shuffle?
As a bad shuffler that has trouble with mash shuffling, I recognize that pile shuffling is easy to rig so if I ever resort to it, I do my best to shake up the order. Normal order, reverse order, clockwise, diagonal, reverse, counterclockwise, normal, inverse diagonal, just go full Simon on it. I may be a math guy but I can't remember that for 98-99 cards, especially after about 2-3 mashes because they clump up randomly and sometimes I very obviously miss a chunk. My biggest issue is getting the cards to loosen up for the initial mash where the corners cut in between the other pile, and since my friend owns all of the cards he gets a heart attack when I'm actually very good at holding things delicately. The method I'm ""best"" at what I guess could be called a drop-cut, where I take a chunk of several cards, usually starting with the top of the deck, move them to above the bottom of the deck, and then steadily let them fall out of my hand as I make sure the pile I'm holding always goes to the bottom. Sometimes it'll be the middle cards first, the bottom cards, a riffle of cards, but I just keep doing that for different chunks of the deck, eventually it recycles a few times as I do my best to also mix some chunks together. Sleeves aren't getting pressed against each other, cards aren't being curved or bent to fit between each other, there's no frustration with piles refusing to separate, it's all the inevitability of physics.
But shouldnt you do uneven numbers of piles, and a number of piles that isnt a divisor of the number of cards? I.e. 7 or 9 piles for both 100 card and 60 card decks
You could, but an expert cheater could make pile shuffling seem completely random without anyone being suspicious.
Bro what?
To remove a sharpie for me i use a eraser
Wow. Did it just land there...?
This was in an animal sanctuary. Huge butterfly museum exhibit in a science center
i consider myself a seasoned commander player and I still watch this video lol. i learned to mass shuffle horizontally instead of vertically like you do, maybe i should learn to do it vertically as well
Details on the mechanics of how you’re holding the cards and whatnot would’ve made this more useful
Thanks for the video! Just sleeved a precon and can’t wait to get started! Also that’s an awesome playmat
Thanks! Link to purchase is in my description
Do you want your chips with your seasoning?
Do you want some seasoning with your chips?
It is absolutely annoying when people shuffle cards all the time they hold in their hands while in play. I think its a tic.
Nah bro I wrote my name on the inside of a band locker I’m screwed I rubbed it and it didn’t come off
Hey! I know you posted this video over 2 years ago but Thank You! I wanted to ask and see what sleeves you would recommend? I've been practicing with some sleeves i got from a pokemon collectors box but they aren't very good and cause too much friction to shuffle a whole commander deck comfortably.
KMC perfect fits with Dragon Shield outer sleeves. Links in description! :)
This one is pretty cool.
I think I've roughly figured out the trick, but by no means have the skills you have to pull it off, side not those sleeves have seen some serious play over the years lol
It worked i just put this one #
I noticed you didn't mention overhand shuffle. Is it a viable way to shuffle your deck? It is how i've always done it'
Feel free to do a few of those between each mash shuffle!
My dog has that toy
who does mash after pile?
I do mash shuffling and what I call "drop" shuffling to randomize the edges more, then it gets cut. But before every event I will do a pile shuffle of 10 cards first, both to count the number of cards to make sure I'm at 99 and then I stack them together randomly before mash shuffling afterwards.
