This was the first hang gliding video I remember youtube recommending me around 2016, and it triggered my childhood dream of flying hang gliders back to my mind. I eventually learned in 2019 and have been a happy pilot since Jan 2020. His videos also sparked a new dream: flying a rigid hang glider (Atos). Last week I finally got the chance to try an old 1999 Atos B (or Atos N), it's an awesome bird, had 4 flights with it, including two 90km competition tasks, all flights lasting between 2-3 hours. One day I'll have a new Atos VR! It's sad he passed away, but with 30 years of hang gliding I'm sure he enjoyed life - I'm enjoying mine! Thanks Norbert, fly forever, rest in peace.

Atos is faster than toples hangliders?
@ericoschmitt Жыл бұрын
Not really, topless in a dive will go faster, but ATOS will have much better glide in higher speed ranges. A topless will glide 10:1 at 70~75km/h (check Moyes specs) while an atos at 90km/h will possibly be above that (I don't have numbers for the atos...). But rigid wings will be limited by high speed resonance and structure, a flex can take more abuse.

Norbert You need to get your hands on the uprights a bit earlier on your approach to ensure you have more control before you reach the turbulant air near the ground. This will enable you to have a better chance of keeping your wings level so that you can make a nice big flare just at the right moment for the perfect landing everytime. ( Loving the video's ) Hope that helps Jamie
