I've had an IH Scout for the past 27 years, and I bought a 1963 Travelall in the spring of 2023.This is a series of videos documenting the work I've done to keep them on the road.

    A friend needs a passengers side quarter glass for his 68. Do you have one for sale?

    Hey, I don't have one for sale right now, but I'll reach out if I do.

    It's not bad for a beginner. It's also a great spot to practice complicated pieces ( under another panel and hidden) Just a bit of advice. If you're burning through, you should cut it out and replace it. If your metal is pitted, you should also replace ( it will usually continue to corrode) The best way to learn is by doing, so keep up the good work my freind!

    Engine and trans not worth saving? I once needed a bell housing for '62 Scout because the cast leverage point of the clutch linkage broke off.

    Sadly, the engine was locked tight, and I've already got a spare 345 on a stand in the garage. I would love to have kept the rest of the running gear, but time wasn't on my side (and I don't have a lift).

    Great work and presentation! Very helpful I got a 68 that’s going to need this work done.

    I used to remove the heavy fiberglass top off my 78 Blazer using a similar technique. I had rubber coated hooks, hanging by short rope, from the ceiling. I just got in the truck, bent over, put my back against the inter ceiling of the cap and used my legs to lift the top. I could raise it high enough that way to grab the hooks and fit them under the edges of the top on each corner.

    Eventually I'll rig up some sort of pulley system with a manual boat winch anchored to the back wall, but right now every available section of wall space is filled with something large and heavy, which makes routing cables difficult. I think it'll become a priority as I get older and my back decides it doesn't want to lift heavy objects.

    I also should mention the steering column needs to be taken off the gearbox. It is pressed onto a splined shaft on the gearbox. They are not made together so it likely just needs more persuasion....ie, a bigger hammer.

    You really should pull all the good glass before you scrap that travelall. Glass can be difficult to find.

  • @idiotking1
    @idiotking12 ай бұрын

    @shopdoc Stay tuned. All that glass is coming out and staying with me-that was one of the main reasons I grabbed this truck.

  • @idiotking1
    @idiotking13 ай бұрын

    Yeah, I have to say it pains me to part it out. I want to save them all, but I'm only one guy with a driveway full of vehicles, and this one is a lot crustier than the one I've got. The other issue is that there isn't a ton of demand for these, not like Scouts or other 4x4's, at least around here. If the engine wasn't locked, and the floor was in better shape, I would consider storing it.

    My first vehicle was a 64 International 1000 half ton truck. Six cylinder, manual, and stepside bed. Wish I still had it. I do still have the grill and one barrel Holley.

    You've probably figured it out by now, but you just lift up on the inside door handle to lock the door. Probably works the same way for the back seat doors.

    That's a nice car and you're lucky to have it. With a modern powerplant you can spend more time enjoying it than chasing "hens teeth" parts. Thanks for sharing.
