Wow, I didn’t make that parallel, until you pointed it out. I essentially blurred out Rogue One because I knew that Cassian was going to eventually bite the dust. I was afraid to become too attached to the character. Same with Fives. Same with the rest of Noble Team from Halo. Or any other tragedy. I’m hoping that the second season of Andor will be as big of a blast. And hopefully Kenobi and Ashoka will follow in its footsteps and keep us audiences captivated and at the edge of our seats.

I like how you pointed out that Cassian’s birth name Kassa sounds like the Spanish word for ‘house’ or ‘home’ (aside from the fact that Diego Luna is Mexican; he even dubbed his character’s dialogue in Spanish too). Because of the show’s theme of sacrifice for a better future, Cassian’s origin story as depicted in his childhood flashbacks had him leave his devastated home planet of Kenari-consequently leaving his sister behind, which is parallel to his adult self leaving his second home on Ferrix with Luthen, and also leaving his adoptive mother Maarva. Although his sister’s fate is uncertain, Maarva does unfortunately pass, leaving Cassian’s desire for home and comfort empty and in vain, which motivated him to join the Rebellion, even after learning the harsh reality of leaving beneath the Empire’s tyranny when he was unfairly arrested, imprisoned on Narkina 5 as a slave to further the Empire’s agenda, in which said regime has no desire to release him and would despose of him when he’s no longer useful. Thus, Cassian finds a home in the Rebellion and Luthen-a mentor and potential father-figure, and his mission is to take down the regime that wronged and took everything away from him, including the entire galaxy, so everyone can live and prosper freely and comfortably, even if it means sacrificing his chances of happiness, shelter, and survival.

I think that was not intentional, in the first scene he means that the Empire is too proud to think they need to expect some kind of resistance, and in the second he's just hoping that the rebellion is receiving the stolen death star plans. I mean there isn't really any connection between both lines except they use the same word. But Andor is genius nonetheless for other reasons.

That's not what retconning means. Retconning refers to changes made to a character or story after the fact, such as a character dying, but then being brought back as though nothing happened. This is literally just giving a character deeper background and contextualizing their actions, words, and motivations with deeper significance. That doesn't change what was already there in any way, it just gives you a deeper understanding of it

The level of development and diving in to the normal person is astonishing and that's what makes this star wars series really good. It takes a look at the daily life of a person or a crook. It gives us the behind the scenes of the Empire as well as evaluate the differing philosophies of the rebel groups, showing that not all Rebel groups initially aligned with each other giving the story of the rebels a more diverse background that's more gray than black and white. This show accomplished giving viewers who may not like star wars, an adult adaptation who they can get behind, almost matching game of thrones. The show is not afraid to say that the Rebels and their beginnings didn't kick off with being good guys, they had to get their hands dirty. They showed us that a good star wars series didn't need Jedi, or big name characters like Solo, Chewie, Palatine, etc... And that a mention was good enough.

I actually think this is what makes star wars so important. Sure, it's got cute cuddly creatures for toys, it's got big battles for movies shows and games to sell, but at it's core that's not what star wars is about. Star wars is about the danger of tyranny, how easy it rises, and how horrific it is when it's in power. But it's also a message of hope, that no matter how tyrannical and bleak things get, eventually tyranny will destroy itself. It's not stable in the slightest, and star wars shows why. Andor is important and so fucking good because it embraces that part of star wars, and kinda rejects all of the capitalistic things star wars has
