    Ordered this in lightspeed, 5'4 x 19 3/4 x 2 3/8 as an all round board for waist to head high. So fed up with swallow tails and been riding firewires for 10 years. Their tech is just getting heavy and stiff so time for a change! 8 week wait for a custom though but coming next week...yew!

    I don't like the beak nose much but a squash tail that goes in anything from waist to overhead is a plus as it's much more stable at slower speeds than your regular swallow tail groveller.

  • @MrRobinski

    More kick in the tail is less speed but more hold in the pocket.

    How is the Lost driver 3.0 compared to the lost pocket rocket?

  • @kikelin
    @kikelin5 ай бұрын

    Only an opinion from an intermediate-advanced surfer who's had the same questioning... I would say the 3.0 is more versatile shape and would help you in a wider range of conditions, whereas the pocket rocket would find its best performance in a classic glassy day with a power wave (still a magic board that can be surfed from almost knee high waves to overhead waves). I have had a magic pocket rocket board who has lasted me for about 3 years and I have had a hard time deciding myself on whether buying myself the same magic board again. Finally, I have opted for buying a stub driver 3.0 for smaller days (absolute rocket and super fun board) and a custom 3.0 in round tail which atm is being manufactured. If you look at the stock dimmensions from both shapes, you will find out the driver 3.0 it is meant to be surfed with slightly more width, and general volume than a pocket rocket. Hope this helps you a bit

    Hi, really nice review! Did you try it with the Libtech construction ? Or on another board, what do you think about this construction ?

  • @seamonkey2641
    @seamonkey26413 ай бұрын

    I have a poly board at 5.9 and a Lib Tech board at 5.11 for winter with thick neoprene. Both boards surf great. There are a couple differences besides durability that I can think of. First, the Lib Tech boards are shaped with the wide dims. So the 5.9 in Lib Tech is 35 liters vs 33.5 in poly. The poly dims at 5’9 is 20.5 x 2.52 vs the lib board at 5’9 is 20.8" x 2.6". Another thing about the Lib Tech boards is that with the Lib Tech fin boxes the FCS 2 fins sit about a half inch closer to the tail than they should. Theoretically this should make the board less responsive but I am sure you can compensate for this with technique. I am enjoying both boards.

    @@tezf6883 yes i saw one of the pros on one and knew this was the board Kelly left behind 25 years ago, Al Merrick made them then ( my knowledge may be lacking about this) n ow his son is making them, wish kelly would try one of these for awhile ,maybe he would win another tour victory.

    Dear Matt, I got RNF lightspeed. Love this board so much. And I wish it was more durable. After a dozen of sessions the board got two cracks on the bottom. I wanna order a second board. Is there a way to make this board more durable? Maybe stronger glassing? Maybe switch to a strigner PU version? P.S. I haven't pushed the board to anything crazy. Shoulder high waves maximum, but it got these two cracks anyway. So ... I am really concerned about its durability.

    Any tips on determining weather or not you are a front foot surfer or back foot surfer? I have been surfing for 20 years and really still have no clue. I surf a driver 2.0 and am considering trying out a 3.0. thanks.

    Just need to pay attention to which foot/leg you put more weight on more of the time. Look at Noel Salas, he is an extremely heavy back footed surfer.

    Trying to narrow down a board, I'm your size but Intermediate, travel trip with wave similiar to your home break, I need 31 ltrs ish and prefer more Hybridish style boards. Do you think each board listed would work in head to head and half size plus and how would you rank? BV-2 5'10, RNF96 5'7, D2 5,9 are my finalist Thanks and which of your fins would you recommend

    He's 6' tall but still super light. So he's slight. He is NOT a bigger guy. No average 6' guys are riding anything near 5'6" at 29 litres. Trestles is obviously a high-performance wave so it's not realistic for most board reviews. Look at the dents already in that PU version behind Noel. They're obsolete now as the cost is too extreme given how fragile they are. How many have you snapped?

  • @sandyfootwell
    @sandyfootwell Жыл бұрын

    Definitely the closest feel to PU I’ve had out of a EPS foam - good bite, enough damping for chop, but that lightness and spring you love out of an EPS

    I am an older guy in my 50's, intermediate surfer but love to find a good paddling short board that can turn well. I ride 6.10 mid length on the EAST coast (wave are 2-5 feet), but want a bit more "maneuverability". I am really thinking of ordering this one?... Essentially I am looking for a short board maneuverability with mid length paddling ability to catch wave. Thank you
