Thank you for this very helpful video. I was born in Korea and raised in Canada. I will definitely use this video the next time I am in Korea. I have definitely heard some youtubers who have come from South East Asia complain Korea is expensive. I wish I saw more videos about affordable places to eat in Korea.
Thanks for visiting my channel. Given the high quality of Korean food (especially with the various side dishes), it's not expensive at all. If you'd like to explore more food options including affordable local ones, pls refer to my e-book 100 best restaurant in Seoul, as noted in the pinned comment.
Hello! What restaurant serves altang in sindang market. I think i saw stew with fish roe in sindang footage. Thanks.
You can try this place: maps.app.goo.gl/AbqGHgHDrqWDFyYD7

Thanks a lot for your recommendations.
Always welcome
The best is saudi for me the safest…
I'll visit Saudi for sure~
Just arrived in Seoul! Gonna try one of the ones you mentioned tomorrow👍
Enjoy it!
My daughter and I had the same experience. We walked around every night and never had any issues. We felt very safe. I love Korea!
Glad you experienced Korea as it is!

Perfect country, perfect people. I hope you’ll preserve it ❤
Thanks for your comment. Yes, please visit and enjoy Korea to the fullest!
It is a good idea if you are going to try to monetize your info, I like how the topics are broken out separately so you can get them a la carte
Thanks for the encouraging words! Yes, I couldn't cover all of these extensive topics on KZread, but rather broke it down to different topics in the tutorial. Hope this tutorial would be helpful!

I am going to Seoul soon and I am very glad that I found this video. Will definitely try to go to all of them. Thanks!
Glad to hear that. Check out my other videos for your reference.
Super great content, it's really great to see a completely different non-touristy spots in Seoul. Thank you Sean P, I'm a big fan of yours already. Can't wait for your video about outdoor places!
Thanks and stay tuned for other interesting videos coming up!
Thank you so much for the tips? Since I’ll be staying next month in Gwanak-Gu area, do you have any recommendations?
Try visiting Namseong Sagye market. It's pretty close to Gwanakgu.
pretty cool place, reminds me of airports
Yes indeed!
Which highway rest stop or stops were featured in this video? Are all highway rest stops like this one? Really curious to go to the one in the video!
Hi there~ We filmed this video from a couple of different rest stops. As for the robot chef, it's "Munmak Service Area." and here's Google map link: maps.app.goo.gl/1YhuCvAbMuwF5W7D7. It's Incheon bound (westbound) stop. Not all highway rest stops are equipped with facilities like this, but most stops are clean and have street food stalls at least.
Another good rest stop we also filmed this video is "Gyeonggi-Gwangju Service Area." If you visit both Munmak and Gyeonggi-Gwangju stops, you'll get similar experiences of mine.
Hello, is galbitang beef meat? Not pork? Thank you.
yes, Galbitang is beef meat broth. It's more common to see beef based soup than pork based soup FYI.
@@worldwideseanpaah, ok I’ll give it a try. Thanks for the tip.
Thank you for the recommendation! Where should i do my shopping then?
Hi there. As for the local market foods, you can visit my suggested ones. If you're looking for shopping info, I plan to upload another KZread video and detailed tutorial videos separately soon for both online and offline shopping in Seoul.
@@worldwideseanp I look forward to it!
Wow ! Thanks for info. I was at the famous market and found the food there quite expensive as well, even before the inflation . So I did not tried many things just 1-2 kinds only. Next time after this vdo I would have a chance to try out more
yes, check out my other videos here for your future reference!
Thank you for posting!
Hope it's helpful. Check out my other videos for your reference!
Thank you What map app do you use?
Naver Map is the local one here.
Stumbled upon the traditional mkt at jedi dong & it was a very interesting experience. Definitely much better than Gwanjang mkt which is filled with foreigners.
Yes you must have enjoyed a true local market experience there!
The demographic transition is ruthless. Especially in Korea
Yes indeed!
So helpful!!😊
I'm so glad!
Thank you for showing us all the great places. In the last restaurant, is 20000 Won for all the people joined or each of us need to pay 20000? Thank you again
That's per person!
I really enjoyed and learned a lot from your vlogs of South Korea. May I know the name of the last restaurant you visited in this video coz will be travelling solo this coming October. Thanks very much and more power to your channel.
yes, type in "보수동 건강탕제원" on google maps, but you'll need to make a reservation prior to your visit. As the owner may not be able to assist you in English, have someone who speak Korean help you.
Yes. Manwong market. This market is recommended. this is a traditional market and many traditional foods are offered here.
Thank you for these series. Can you please help with the name of the 1st seafood restaurtant ?
Type in "해녀특산품판매장" on your Google maps. Hope it helps. Enjoy your travel!
Thank you fornthe video, i am going to Korea in July, i will avoid these markets!
yes, I hope my other videos would be helpful for your upcoming trip!
Thanks for the honesy. I visited Myeongdong but only tried some meat because the food there is too unhealthy for me
Try Hanjeongsik (Korean traditional cuisine) with a good balance of variety of vegetables and meat instead at a legit Korean restaurant!
Great video with awesome recommendations! I visited several markets when I visited Seoul, including the touristy Gwangjang and Namdaemun markets-- while I think it can still be worth visiting just to say you went, by far my favorite was Mangwon market! There were so many options of delicious food and none of them disappointed! Definitely had a lot more locals compared to foreigners, too. The vendors there were really kind, the prices were good, and most importantly the food was delicious! There is an outdoor section and an indoor section that span quite a ways, so it's easy to spend an hour or two walking around, looking at (and tasting) all the options. I'll be going back to Seoul in autumn or winter, so I'll have to check out some of your other recommendations as well! I can't wait! 💚
Yes, hope you would enjoy more of local experiences in your next visit~
👍👍👍Really appreciate you having made this video. So useful to have the insights of the locals to have better experiences in Korea !! For anyone going to China, avoid spending money on food at Shanghai's Yu Garden food court/hall, as well as the Beijing's Wangfujing night market. For the same reasons Koreans don't recommend Gwangjang Market for food. These are places that are popular with foreign and local Chinese tourists. Just go there to browse around or take pictures, but don't waste money on the food.
Yes indeed!
It's really sad, because Gwangjang Market used to be so cool and had decent food, but then the last time I went there it was like a shadow. It was also where I had the most "meh" 빈대떡 in my life. 빈대떡 should never taste "meh." Thanks for recommending some better places for tourists to visit~
Yes, I hope Gwangjang market merchants would wake up to this criticism and regain their credibility once again!
Tq so much for ur honest infoe
I think you’ll find the same in all major cities. They overcharge in London e.g. £2+ for a small bottle of water or can of drink. Keep clear of tourist areas.
Yes indeed. Thk for the feedback.
명동 노점 과 광장시장 만 피해도 한국 여행의 절반은 성공적
전적으로 공감 진짜
언젠가는 이 영상도 한때 광장이 그랬었지..가 되도록 광장시장이 신뢰를 회복했으면 합니다!
we liked the busy vibe there, but we were a bit surprised at how bland a lot of dishes were. Will try your suggestions next time, thanks!
I literally just left this market, 30 mins ago. Guess I’ll try others while I’m in Seoul.
Hope you would enjoy my suggestions~
Thanks we went to Namsan Sagye market and paid only 2000krw for three twisted donuts, we'd be paying that much for a single donut elsewhere!
Good to hear that you had a great experience!
I want to know how you keep your white shirt clean while eating 😂
I usually get red pepper stains while eating though. Maybe I got lucky this time😃
Great idea for a video
i went to a lot of markets during my time in korea and i thoroughly enjoyed my visit to gwangjang market. didnt find the prices that absurd but maybe its because im from nz...
thanks for your comment. Yes, not all merchants there overcharge nor provide lesser amounts, but many of them have been found to do so, which I believe is now changing slowly due to the recent controversies surrounding them.
4:48 thanks for pointing out what to expect
yes, I hope you'd enjoy your time in Korea!
The Aquafield hanam is temporarily closed according to google. When is it going to be open again?
Which is why I recommend using Naver map over Google map. I've checked again, the place is open. It was closed only for today, Apr.19th. I'll also upload another video and online tutorial guides soon to address this type of issue, so stay tuned.
@@worldwideseanp thank you. Keep up the contents👍
if we don't have a local phone number, can we reserve kim satgat using our name instead?
yes, you can go up to the counter and list up your name as well~
@@worldwideseanp For the BBQ restaurants, do they have minimum servings order if you have company (more than 1 person)?
@@ago255 You're usually asked to order 1 person portion per person, unless it's a kid.
I learned about Haenyeo from Welcome to Samdalri. So cool you met one!
wow you're already far ahead with Korean local knowledge. You would encounter haenyeo grandmas when visiting Jeju for sure.
Just subscribed. Really enjoying the content. Look forward to more as we will be there in June Do you have a recommendation for noraebang bar that isnt only private rooms (like open mic)
thanks for visiting my channel~ maybe it's a cultural difference, but I haven't seen any open karaoke bar with open mic. I guess it's because Koreans are not used to mustering up their courage to sing in front of others. All noraebangs in Korea are private room based ones. If you're ok with regular noraebangs, pls refer to the one I addressed in this episode: kzread.info/dash/bejne/eq2WvMSvY8qrhbw.htmlsi=am3M2X3yYVkW4lJn
Thank you for showing me another side of Busan. Very useful I have followed you, waiting for the next clip.
thanks! stay tuned~
As an American who lived in Korea for many years, many of the people I worked with were not married. IT is a demanding field in Korea and most people chose to work extremely long hours, sometimes up to 15 hours a day, plus they rarely took a vacation. I could never understand it. I worked 10 hours a day, 4 days a week because I knew my family life would suffer if I did not spend adequate time with them, so I set up my contract for a 4-day workweek. Korea is probably the most competitive country I've ever lived in and the desire to get ahead seems to be the focus of everyone. Another thing that really bothered me was the "unspoken" caste system, where wealthy people looked down or ridiculed people of lesser economic status. I now live in Europe which is the exact opposite of Korea; the workweek here is 35 hours and everyone takes 5 weeks vacation. People seem far happier here. I loved Korea and the Korean people, but they need to do something about their insane desire to work themselves to death just to get ahead.
Well said and fully agreed.
