I've managed to run FunkyDemo! by S. Harrison on my Raspberry Pi 4 which, now that I reflect, is a miracle. I've got some 'starting blocks' with which to hack and reverse engineer. 😊❤🖋

Wonderful. I'd be impressed with this if it was running on a modern PC with a GPU. The fact that it's on a 30 year old machine is jaw-dropping. Now I want to get my 420/1 running!

Where'd you get the disassembly of the 64 version? Im about to embark on disassembling it myself, might be nice if someone could shortcut that process for me :D
@kieranhj4 ай бұрын
Hey! I started with a RAM dump of the C64 version and put that through a disassembler, I can’t remember which one. I also cross referenced with the source for the Atari 8-bit version which Fandal provided me. All the BBC sources and reference materials are in this GitHub repo: github.com/kieranhj/scr-beeb

When says "not a Falcon demo" is refering to an Atari?

Now port it to the real Teletext graphics machine, the Philips P2000T! How does this fit in RAM btw? You can usually fit around 40-50 pages max.

The BBC Micro had a real Teletext graphics chip.The Philips SAA5050 and that’s what Mode 7 used. This is Mode 7 on a BBC Micro.

@@melanierhianna I know, but it was kind of a side-kick, the machine itself was pretty beefy. Hence the challenge to get it into a Z80 machine with just a SAA5050 and 32kB of RAM.

Someone showed me this machine with RISC processor somewhere around 1990. I was impressed but can't exactly remember why. It was different from C64/Amiga, Atari or PC.

Lol, I used to sneak into school after hours to a back cupboard where there was a BBC Micro and used that to play Chuckie Egg. The best, cleanest, crispest version of Chuckie Egg is on the BBC Micro.

I think this is excellent, well done. And the sound quality (as others have picked up on) is exceptionally good for an Archimedes.
