@th-bk2qs Normally I use a standard 3m respiratior. But in this case I used my nose hairs. Its not great to do it unmasked. Can usually pull it off if its a small spot and hold my breath. Dont recommend doing a whole wall like this.

Oh a couple more things. Keep your hand perpendicular to the wall and for God's sake be proud of your profession wear your trade whites buddy. Dressed like a hack don't help .

LOL , when I saw that thumbnail I thought , "Okay how in the hell did you paint that wall GRAY without getting any paint on that chair rail or baseboard !!!!" I thought "NO WAY that is real" .... hahahahha

I think I remember what I used to prime the wall. I had leftover junk paint and I did it first because it was available. They ripped out the carpet after the project. I sprayed the ceiling and trim white. Rolled the walls with this bright blue color that the owner picked out but really hated afterwards and had to repaint it with a lighter blue. (Got paid extra of course) And the chair rail was painted by hand with a brush, primer white.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. "Now you've got to paint the ceiling. I hate painting ceilings". Not to mention the unprotected carpet.

Carpet got ripped out as planned. The order I did this in was junk paint primer on dark wall(in the video), spray ceiling white and trim white, roll color on wall, hand paint chair rail.

This should have another title I’m watching someone overspray onto the ceiling and the floor it should be titled something like John spray unless you know what you’re doing

  • @BlastPainting

Early in the process my guy. This is before spraying the ceiling and the trim. Floor got ripped out, everything else was painted over. There was no overspray on the lights or cabinets. Crazy thing about this place was this vibrant blue color that the homeowner picked and really hated after seeing it.

This effect is called fingering. Its when there is not enough pressure from the sprayer. This was being done to get paint down for backrolling. This will look really bad if its left as is.

I grew up in the 70’s. My mom had dad panel our whole house, except our tiny kitchen. Every year, mom would make dad dust and shine the entire paneling. Around 2002, new owners once hearing I was raised there, sweetly gave us a tour of the the interior. They’d painted the dark paneling white, which looked great! My ? Is…..is it easier or less $, to paint over paneling or removing it, patch the walls, paint and git er done! ??

If you don't mind the vertical lines, cheaper and easier to paint over.

The secret is oil-based cover stain from zinser. Goes on just like regular paint, it's a little smelly but completely blocks out the tannins. Might need two coats of that and then painting on top whatever color you want.

Interesting thing is.. that is the primer. tannins go through water based paints.
