The Rush Experience

The Rush Experience

Hailing from the Baltimore/Washington Metropolitan Area, The Rush Experience are a true RUSH Tribute Act in that the band fulfill the traditional roles of Geddy, Alex and Neil... with Vince Tricarico on drums and percussion... Burke Hunn on guitars and synthesizer pedals... and David Kidd on bass, vocals, keyboards and pedals.
The band's repertoire spans RUSH's entire career from their 1974 debut album through 2012's epic swan song, Clockwork Angels. The Rush Experience focuses primarily on RUSH's hey-day 70's and 80's material, performing many of their greatest hits with a wealth of surprising deep cuts that perhaps Rush only played live.

That is just weird, it’s ok to cover the music but to try to look the same and act the same is silly. It’s about music folks, not appearance

It’s great to have all of the top equipment but you’ve still got to be able to play. I saw this band live and they weren’t that bad. The only thing is the drummer is choppy and his tempo fluctuations throw off the whole band. Also, maybe he would benefit from someone showing him how to tune his drums. They’re expensive DW’s and they really should sound a lot better

My best friend of 50 years and I were complete Rush heads growing up in the early 80s. He always hated this song. Fast forward to 2019. On a mancation to Nevada we had rented a fabulous Airbnb in Henderson Nevada. There was an elevated cabana by the pool. From there we could see the lights of Vegas. After a long day of desert trekking and some perfectly grilled steaks we sat and just watched the lights upon the horizon in silence. I brought my Alexa blue tooth speaker and she was randomly playing my songs that she knew I liked. Lakeside park starts echoing off the pool and filled the air.... He quietly says, "I remember when I didn't like this song at all.....Funny how things change.....what a masterpiece......" He passed away June of 2020. 😢

The only thing I don’t understand is why you don’t play a jazz bass. The precision is not guttural enough to cut through the mix on a tree piece rock sound! apart from that you guys are awesome:)

Great job! I understand your kit is set up to be a replica of Neil's kit, including placement. Do you find the height of the toms and the hi hat being set that high uncomfortable to play? Or is that the way you prefer it as well. To me it seems like a "reach" to hit those high toms, and to me would be uncomfortable to play.

  • @therushexperience7208

Tony - Vince here and thanks for the nice comments. To answer your question. When I decided I was going to play in a Rush Tribute years ago coupled with the fact I'm a HUGE Rush fan; I wanted Rush Fans that came to see the band play instantly recognize the drumkit as something they've seen a 'Real' Rush Show. So, I forced myself to play the kit as Neil had it set up. It took some time to get used to for sure. Now I love it. What's interesting is sometimes I can't bring this kit into a room that we might play at that doesn't have direct access to the stage. So, I'm at the final stages of bringing my "B" Set-Up, which will be on a fixed drum riser and is a 1:1 Replica of Neil's RED TAMA's. Now that's taking time to get used to again, with the Ride Cymbal being so far to the right.

Amazing! I have to ask, how long did it take you to learn to solo over that 3 note Ostinato? To me, that's the most amazing thing. Even The Professor himself said that it took him quite some time to become comfortable enough with playing that Ostinato that he could solo over it. I think drummers are the only ones to notice that Ostinato. I hardly ever hear non- musicians comment on it.

Danny, thank you for the nice comments. This is a work in progress Vince here I was reluctant to even do a drum solo within an Rush tribute because it’s just so personal so what I tried to do was play several of his elements from his drum solos over the years and stitch them together And really play it like a song as best I can so the answer question yeah, the 3 over 4 is always something I’m working on to try and smooth out.

Neil was quite clear he wasn't a fan of tribute bands especially with respect to rush...lol. Truth be told neil was a difficult stubborn individual at times. But he softened as he got older. Kinder gentler neil. I dont think he fully understood the gravity of the effect he had and the band. I bet he would really be proud of all the millions of people emulating his work today young and old. Not at all selfish about it.
