    The cost is worse than those numbers because that money spent is no longer making money in the stock market

    Bought a 2021 and Eastern was horrible to deal with on quality/warranty issues. Horrible. They use butyl tape for bedding deck hardware, set up a dangerous propane system that had to be removed, and too many other things to list. Do not buy new, get one that has been used and proven. Love my boat, have full disdain for Eastern!

    I own an Antares 11 and I have some plusses and minuses to report. It is very easy to use and the joystick function makes docking a breeze. It handles very well in calm and rough seas - had it out in 6' swell and it was fine. Great speed with twin merc 300's. Great vessel for fun on Narragansett Bay environs. That said, there are some real flaws. First and most inmportantly, quality is not like the old Beneteaus. The company moved production to Poland and the quality is shaky. Leaky overhead, misaligned cabinets, A/C works great in cooler weather but completely fails to keep up with hotter temps (we're in RI which isn't exactly 'hot weather'). Even the toilet seat was dielivered in the wrong size. One design flaw is that the helm is very hot in warm weather - zero wind flow and no windows to allow wind flow. BTW - it is not exactly cheap either. Also, Beneteau completely eliminated ANY direct contact and all complaints/concerns must go through the dealer. It is impossible to complain about a bad dealer to Beneteau HQ

    Don't need 12 months each of dock/mooring AND winter storage, do you? And if you're going to TOW it, do you need either? And haul/launch fees for a trailered boat?

    this does not boost hp. Adding more fuel will just make the mixture rich so it might have a bit more torque but it will loose peak hp. To get more hp you need to add more fuel and air.

    No way. Projecting. Bayliner or Meridian sport trawler/cruiser with diesels smashes these boats in every category at this price point. Edit: Good effort though, good effort.

    I have just bought a display 8hp Parsun motor. I understand it is a Mercury/Tohatsu clone. I plan on doing this exact same conversion, using an inexpensive generic 9.8hp carb. Can you please elaborate on what was misaligned so that the choke was jammed?

  • @vickz2985
    @vickz29853 күн бұрын

    Hi man I just wanted to tell you that I made the same mistake a few yeard ago by getting a parsun, it is cheap chinese crap and it will only be problems for you I would just recommend to sell it now when it has more value and get either a new or second hand engine of companies which are more established in the boat industry. I strongly recommend any engine from Yamaha or Honda but anything other like suzuki and or even murcury ( tohatsu ) will be better than a parsun : ) let me know how you work it out and if you have any more questions please ask me !

    The performance shown is I believe for v drives . What improvement does the stern drive make ?

  • @CruisingCalypso
    @CruisingCalypso2 ай бұрын

    Great question! Stern drives definitely would see a speed improvement as much as 6-8 knots and a corresponding reduction in fuel burn. Stern drive v. v-drive is always a trade off of performance v. maneuverability and maintenance with the latter being easier and slower.

    My 1967 27ft fibreglass/Hemp composite canoe, with cracked hull and broken seat, has better features than this rust bucket! 😡 Like, when the weather starts getting rough, and my tiny ship gets tossed, if it wasn’t for the courage of the fearless crew, (me) the Minnow would be lost! The Minnow would be lost!

    9.9 is completely different bigger block more weight. 8-9.8 are proven motors for tohatsu dont break if it isnt broke.

  • @CruisingCalypso
    @CruisingCalypso9 ай бұрын

    Yes, the 9.9 is a different motor than the 8-9.8. Upping t6he horsepower of the 8 to 9.8 is an easy inexpensive way to increase the power and make the engine more useful.

  • @omieyouknowme
    @omieyouknowme9 ай бұрын

    @@CruisingCalypso lots of variables there. If being used as a kicker no noticeable gains. If using on a dingy then perhaps but is it worth it? Unless the carb was gummed beyond cleaning perhaps but in small hp applications meh the bigger 9.9 will have better torque. 4-6hp single cylinder though is generally a good upgrade

    Thanks for the tour. A lot to like in this boat. I think view forward from the aft helm station would be adequate, but it's hard to know until you try it out. A real benefit would be docking -- the helmsman can see both transom corners when docking stern-to. And as you said, the helmsman is able to converse easily with guests sitting forward of the helm. I see so many Hinckley picnics boats running by my place with a lonely helmsman in the cabin and all the other passengers having fun in the cockpit aft -- very unsatisfactory. I think the covered area between the salon and aft cockpit in the Riviera would be delightful -- shaded but open air, very comfortable. The three cabin layout is fine, but I wonder if there is a two-cabin layout with a grand midship cabin available? That would be my choice. The only drawback to the Riviera is the need for isinglass for protection on the upper deck -- that stuff is horrible to look through.
