Julie singing this like she’s a princess. This song is about being a loser downtrodden hooker basically. It’s heartbreaking. Julie girl what was this lol

Sooo glad you posted this. Thank you! The musical arrangement screams Seventies, Burt Bacharach-style. Doesn't really suit Cabaret, but Julie makes it work, and it makes me nostalgic for my childhood.❤

Wow, a great story! Although, I have heard Julie Andrews say these things before, your editing is very bright and entertaining. Julie is the epitome of class and grace! Richard Burton was something of a lovable rogue back in the day (perhaps for always) and a brilliant actor besides! Cheers to all!

As Julie said, "buzz off, Richard(Burton)!" Except that she didn't say "buzz"! To find out what she actually said, read her book 'Home'.

Her parents come off slightly different in her autibiography. She is talking about her step-father, she didn't like him. He was an alcholic and her mother became one. Her Daddy she adored! Only she learned out later, from her drunk mother, he was not her father. On debuting in 'My Fair Lady' her biological father showed up, making it known that if she wanted to continue the relationship that would be okay. This was sort of the second time she had seen him and she felt he was intruding on her Daddy's pride and joy, that he had a daughter who starred in a show in the West End. She never mentioned him again in the book. I don't know if Daddy ever knew she was not his daughter. PS: The Ella Shields she talks about was an American, but she had her greatest success in Britain. She and a young Julie Andrew's appeared together on the bill of a Command Performance, in the late 1940s, in front of the King and Queen. Ella Shields was a Male-impersonator, and it is thought that Andrew's paid tribute to her by singing 'Burlington Bertie from Bow' in her movie 'Star.' It is also thought Shields may have inspired Julie in her performance in Victor/Victoria.

The director of this film was Bob Wise, may God rest his soul. Mr. Wise had collaborated with J.A. on "The Sound Of Music" and also helmed many classic films, such as "The Andromeda Strain" and "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".
