Extremely late to the party, but here nevertheless. The intro playing at the 11th minute mark is named Kagayaki, is something that is probably better experienced in its full version. The show is about Oni (Ogres/Demons) that use music in order to perform ritual cleansing of other evil monsters; and the older generation training and passing it on to a new generation. They are divided into 3 tribes, of fire percursions, wind trumpets and electric strings. The full intro reflects all the tribes because it loops, and each part is dedicated to one instrument. Part 1 has Taikos (the japanese drum), Part 2 adds vocal chanting, Part 3 adds electric guitars, Part 4 adds violins, Part 5 revisits vocals and adds trumpets. Once you know the basic premise and arc of each character, it really is something beautiful how they're all the same bite sized loop of music, but it is perfectly fitted and arranged for their personalities. Similarly, Climax Jump, the one at 14:30 has another better version, where the voice actors of the show sing the theme as their characters. The energy of the song is a lot more present and less melancholic. Super niche recommendation inside this already niche recommendation, but they actually yearly release the original soundtrack of these shows. Like the suspense music when the villain is plotting, the heroic theme when the hero is about to transform, the hook for the next episode and so on. Those are as much of a good thing to listen to as the song tracks themselves, IMHO.

Hyoshigi are literally just wood blocks tied together to _clank_ , but they commonly symbolize tradition/religion (which is baiken's whole Buddhist mantra for sinners thing) and danger. Hell, the more modern use is to signal the beginning and end of an event like a sumo basho, which is even more reason. So it really makes for a thousand opinions/uses in something like Baiken's song which is all about religion, revenge, and being Japanese.

Separate but connected. 2011 one, the Fourze, the space one, got remade to be a happy theme, in response to the natural disaster that devastated Japan. The director saw an image of a statue of Kamen Rider Ichigo standing tall amidst the destruction and decided to change the theme from a gloomy one to a cheerful highschool focused one.

i know it's been like MONTHS so i don't know if it'll really matter LMAO but the ending for children of the city, the numbers portion, is them reciting the value of the letter e -- which happens to be a value that legitimately never ends. it makes the lyric before it even sadder because you'll realize that said character will never be able to go home due to that fact.

FFXIV is the most beautifully and intricately built fictional world I have ever walked into. In my opinion, the story is on par with or better than major literary works of fiction like Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, The Chronicles of Narnia, etc. If you want game with no lore, this is not the game for you. No lie, I want to adapt the story of this game into a series of novels just so I can read it to my future grandchildren.

So regarding your concerns about it potentially being a depressing game based on the song... I mean... It can be, at times. The story is at times very dark, bleak, even outright horrifying. There are few dark themes the game doesn't at least lightly touch on at times. But it is ultimately one of the most hopeful stories I have ever read, watched, or played. Beyond the darkness I mentioned earlier, there is joy, there is peace, there is humor. This game will make you feel loss. It will make you feel guilt. It will snuff out the light of hope. And then it will reignite it in a fucking inferno of badassery. Final Fantasy 14. It's a fuckin' roller-coaster, man.

I LOVE how even without contex this music is fo freaking amazing and touching. FFXIV is labbled as slow at the start.. but its all world building for the first expansion. RPG players are used to it. FFXIV still the best experience I have ever had in any kind of media. Books, movies, music, games.. It beat it all with a really amazing package

i heard minami (the screamer/keyboardist) used to be a classical pianist. dunno if it's true or not but after listening to their songs i kinda nod to it cuz their songs are quite similar to classicals....? like they got different tempos, the transitions... they're kinda like "movements" in classical pieces. really love it about them, genius!
