Welcome to The Ginger Pondkeeper - this channel showcases my natural-themed garden pond and the native species; carp and rudd, that make it their home.
My videos show how I endeavour to establish a healthy environment for fish that thrive, within a pond that also thrives, looks good and is a relaxing space in my garden.

Looks like the carp have thrush, put uniodised salt in otherwise there is a high chance of your fish dying
One has carp pox. While unsightly it is not life-threatening and the fish is doing very well. Thank you for your suggestion and for watching.
Wish I could edit like you great update Andy 👍
Thanks mate - I could probably put out more videos if I spent less time playing around with editing ;) I do really enjoy it though. Thanks for your support
Great update mate love your edits
Cheers - Tbh I set up the channel to teach myself editing, just wish I could have better software, might make things a little quicker, but I'm enjoying it which is the point.
Great channel so gave you a sub, love your natural looking pond, I am a carp angler so also love the carp you keep.
Oh cheers, I really appreciate that - I sued to fish for carp too, as well as some mixed species stuff, money and time has eatn that for now, I'll maybe pick it up again in the future.
Andy! Opinions may vary. Mine is that your filter house looks good but that fake plants you have added to cover it is ugly, really ugly. I would urge you to reconcider that decition. Great video as always mate.😀👍
I can't totally disagree, but they were a cheap solution to covering up some issues - over time I may replace them with better options as money allows. Thanks for the support and comment as always mate
Looking good Andy 👌🏻
Thanks very much, much appreciated
Enjoyed watching the mini series buddy. If only more eyes was no object ay 😞 As always, quality editing and relaxing narrative 👌🏼👌🏼
Thanks so much, I really appreciate your thoughts and support, cheers!
Happy day's Andy 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
My pond loses so much water some times over night. I always think I got a leak but I think it's the water fall and my plants.how often do you top up your pond?
By and large I'd go with it being the waterfall, I get little or no water loss, certainly not noticeable over 24 hours. When I had a waterfall a few years ago, I found I lost some water over the sides with splashing, but also found it hard to ensure the pipe connections were attached properly - the plants around it grew really well tho!
Excellent little series mate! If you’re capable of doing the work yourself and it looks like you are! Your dream Pond might not be that out of reach. Have you ever thought about a secondhand nexus 220? They’re not as big as you think then you could get rid of your multi bay and wheelie bin. My sheds 6x5 and I have plenty of room
Thanks Neil really appreciate it - I have thought of a Nexus over the years, and I keep changing my mind! It's definitely something I might consider if I have some cash to add new equipment, but not enough for an RDF
Nice content
Love your new look thumbnails.. What software are you using.🤔😉👍
Copilot a preview version of which has been auto added to Windows 11. Down on the taskbar to the right of the clock.
yes its beter but when they watch for you going out and thers a lot of them and start bracing the pumps and puling things out and you get back and half of water has gon and a big bar stuck outof side of shed its not fun its the expens of starting again
its a good sistem and its a grat hoby spesley in sumer siting out watching them i could sit out all daywith mine but we started guting ruf naiboures puting throing fat in thenstarting pinching then so had to get rid of all my thingss and pumps what fish i had left i gave to fish and garden senter to sel second hand
Cheers Ray, yep it's definitely great in the summer when you can just sit and relax and chill
All the best Andy
Cheers Alex, all the best to you too, thanks for watching
"Maybe I an lazy". LOL! How much time do you spend on your weekly cleaning routine? I spend 2-4 times 10 minutes. 4 times only in the peek of summer. Great vid as always Andy.😀👍
Cheers mate - yeah, it takes a while - about 1hr 30 once a week, then 15 minutes flushing the tempest on two other days, and a couple of 5 mins skimmer basket checking/emptying. I did used to do the 'big' clean twice a week, but I don't think it actually made things better and sucked the joy out of the hobby a bit!
@@TheGingerPondkeeper I do spend more time than that on my hobbies. It is just that I need to get efficient, get the time down on one hobby before I can start another one. There was a time long time ago when the pond took almost all my spare time. I know the feeling, took the Joy out of it.😀👍
my friend, could you point me in the right direction to finding that pond wear you had on to go into the pond..
Hi, I honestly can't remember where I got the waders friend, I got them years ago for fishing, I could do with higher ones as I have to drop the pond depth a little each time as otherwise the water comes over the side of them!
all for the joy of Keeping Carp mate, for me its all part of the hobby and its always great when you come up with a better design or adjustment
Yep totally agree, plus definitely gives you feeling of satisfaction when everything looks good and healthy
Thanks for sharing your experience
No problem Chris, many thanks for watching and commenting
Nice work, That’s a lot of work to keep it clean though, I barely touch my pond, drum, shower and big moving bed looks after itself.
Thanks Jamie - yeah it is the downside of my system, one day I might have less to do, money allowing
nice video keep them coming
Cheers Kevin, appreciate that
Im a new subscriber. Really nice video i would like to see prt 2. Thanks for sharing
Love it mate
Cheers mate, thanks for watching and the support
Why don't you just build a bog filter? It seems like you're doing an awful lot of work mitigating something that could be easily handled by nitrifying bacteria. The fact that you have algae is an indicator that whatever your system is simply not removing enough nitrogen from your pond and the algae is feeding off of it. You're never going to win this game until you can colonize enough surface area to have the bacteria eat it instead
Great info, thanks mate
Thanks a lot, really glad you enjoyed it 👍
Great video and good information, mate! 👍
Cheers, really appreciate you watching and commenting, it took quite a bit of editing so glad people are enjoying it

Thank you & thank you for watching
Quality that is 👍
your Videos are amazing mate
Excellent video mate 👍👌 I have golden Rudd in my koi pond. Ace fish. Stunning set of carp to mate. Nearly ended up turning my indoor pond in to native species. 👍
I have Rudd in my pond as well and they spawned! I’m in the same situation as you 😊 your pond is looking great!
Thank you, rudd are like pond-guppies :)
@@TheGingerPondkeeper they are! 😊 I have green and golden tench as well! I’m looking forward to further updates.
All looking good Andy, where did you get the small blue pond from, very useful to have.
Cheers, I think I got it from Amazon, mine's the smallest - www.amazon.co.uk/Aquaforte-Folding-Diameter-Protective-practical/dp/B00ZL7N0OA
Love the channel, and love your pond.... Most hobbies are expensive. I daren't add up what I've spent on fishing gear over the years.. I plan on building a pond next year of similar size to yours, also with a few king carp rather than KOI So its nice to get an honest estimate (of sorts).. I just can't help thinking that the "cheaper" the build, the less quality of life the pond inhabitants will have.. Love the natural look of your pond. ... Quite new to your channel, but love the insight from someone who has leant on the job, to a degree. Btw, the electrics are also something I'm a little apprehensive in doing... Still, I have a good 8 months to plan things, and channels like yours are a great help..... All the best.
Thanks so much for watching, subbing and such comprehensive feedback. I spent a ton on fishing equipment over the years too, sometimes it's scary actually adding up what gets spent on things over time, not bankrupt yet fortunately! Still, even with the expense and stress, having a pond is definitely worth it and good luck in getting it done, btw I wish I'd spent a good few months planning, I kinda rushed in to to start with, not a good idea :)
Am pleased that you decided to keep the channel been following and watching for years on my main account. I am surprised you didn't go with a bog filter
Thanks so much for keeping with me, I've subbed to this channel too. Yep, I thought about a bog filter where the planted wall area is, but ultimately laziness and cashflow ended those thoughts ;)
NB: I know I've missed pricing one item, but it is included in the final total, and I also "say" the wrong price for an item (the liner), but the price on screen is correct!
Great video mate
Thank you!
Great video mate, in my opinion, your pond is possibly the best natural looking pond on KZread, and them fish are stunning. You've done a first class job, good on ye 👍
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it - it's a bit rough at the mo, but once the plants come back it will look better
The cost certainly mounts up, I dread to think of what I have spend over twenty odd years on my pond, interesting video🤓
Oh god it really does! I don't think I had any idea when I started :)
Mint pond mate I love it
Thanks, wish it was half the price though ;)
really enjoy your videos mate
