  I don't like the presence of the finger choil, I don't like the colors and above all I don't like the backward balance. It should have been neutrally balanced, also to better use the finger choil.   @@retirementOwl first impressions, does the truth hurt? I have had several Survive around 4 inches and they were all perfect in terms of design and project. This One has several functional (objective) and aesthetic errors (aesthetics are subjective). Tell me instead why you like it

  @richardhenry1969 I have 2 of their knives. I am speaking from experience. Also find one video anywhere saying they aren't some of the best knives out there. You can't find one! So when you say something like that it shows you are just repeating nonsense. If you had ever held one and used one you would know that they are one of if not the best knives out there. And at the price they go for they blow away anything in that price range. Unfortunately you can't get one anymore but if you are gonna say something like you did at least have a clue as to what youbare talking about.

  It's a no for me. Why, you ask? Finger choil within the blade. All finger choils should be behind the blade, like a Bradford Guardian 3.5 or Spyderco Paramilitary 2. Sharpening choils are a big no for me, too.

  I love how we have different opinions. I prefer knifes this big with finger choil. When they get behind the blade, they often get too narrow. Don't like it at all.

  I picked up a Reiff F6 in Magnacut and I love it. Perfectly balanced. No finger choil. I have the black Micarta scales that just melts in my hand. It is a decent chopper and holds its edge like a boss. Highly recommend,

  reiff is a very interesting brand, american, of two young and competent guys they work well and could take the market share that was of Survive. no problems in the quality or delivery times of orders. everything regular and precise at the moment. some friends have bought them and they are happy with them. unfortunately I strongly hate hybrid bevels and concave bevels. I'm not saying to make them convex, it would be too nice, but if they were at least flat I would buy them too.

  It's a drop point design, saber grind blade.This and the TRC M1-SL are both in my wishlist. I own the Mille Cuori though, which is overall better than both but who can stay only on one TRC?! Nice buy brother, keep it sharp and have fun! PS It's not a bushcraft knife, it's a "Survival" knife which is the opposite. Bushcraft is getting into the bush and having fum, Survival, is how to get out of a difficult situation.

  The flat grind seems to bite deep but the convex really throws chunks of wood with every chop. I was on the fence about getting a Bravo 3 but you helped make my mind up. Good video.

  I saw on blade forums where a new one snapped at the ricasso. I've lost confidence and most of my interet now. I'll orobably get one of my carbon v old school onrs out, and use that.... 3V is over $300 aud... Shouldn't snap!

  1. They do or did heat treat by hand, probably a slight defect. 2. U probably would have never noticed if u didnt yank to the side and it wouldve lasted a life time. 3. Ive only ever had the tops bob. And being an ex criminal i used to prey car doors open at the top of the door with it and never had an issues with the three ive bought back in those days. Conclusion, dont rape ur blades, anything will fail at a point. And the yak is very thin close to the handle. Alot alot alot thin😂 im thinking about buying one bc i bet u got one of very few heat treats theyve had that wasnt great.

  Maybe some points in the video weren't clear. I clarify a couple of things. It didn't bend because I slipped it into the trunk and made strength laterally. He folded during the chopping, normal, which you can see in another video, against another knife. When I realized that it was bent, at the end of the video, I made this other video to talk about the problem, and I deliberately folded it laterally to the right and left to show how easy it was to do it, because it was too soft and defective on the differential heat treatment. At the end of this video I straightened it without any effort. I had and tried many tops, the best I had was undoubtedly the bob, so I speak with full knowledge of the facts. What escapes this video is not the single defective piece that can happen to every brand, but the production process of tops that is completely wrong. They make too many models, some, like this completely poorly designed, all with the same base steel, without differentiating according to the project, based on the intended use and above all the differential heat treatment, which they believe to be their strong point is actually the weakest point of tops. Because there is a person who does it manually on hundreds of pieces and this leads to a high possibility of having defective pieces and having two identical knives with completely different performances, which is unacceptable for an industrial knife. You can't go to luck, such a company must have constant quality. The differential heat treatment is exceptional on high-end custom knives, big knives, swords, made by expert masters of the ABS Mastersmith, by expert forgers, on the single quality piece, not by a company of this kind on the entire catalog of an industrial production. This is the point of the video, clearly it is my opinion, based on my experience.

  I've never had a fake knife in my life. If I can't afford something, I get something else, not the copy. furthermore, testing a fake only throws mud on the original brand and the Chinese fake the most famous and best-selling knives, not secondary models like this one. That said, it was purchased new on Lamnia at list price. This knife is defective for two reasons. The yakare has an unbalanced blade, too thick at the tip and thin between the blade and the handle. this already makes it a bad hybrid between machete and big chopper. But not only the other reason why it is bent is the differentiated heat treatment, done randomly and completely wrong by tops. in fact the part between the blade and the handle is not hardened and is around 48 HRC, the etching they do on the blade makes it clear, because it reveals where the hardest part begins around 56-58 HRC. thin steel at 48 HRC bends like a flag in the wind. After having several tops and testing them, aside from some uncomfortable handles and cheap sheaths (like this one) and high prices, I can safely say that they have made some very good knives, like the Bob, which remains their best product, but that their the biggest problem is always the design and above all the differentiated hardening.

  I prefer the Camp 10 for general uses, the 18 is heavier, tired the hand, weighs attached to the backpack, is very visible, is more difficult to control, vibrates much more, risks damage to the edge or bevel on branches above one inch, even if they are green. But it is certainly a lot of fun to use and have.

  You can read its weight online. You can see pivots and no screws online. You can see no clip screws there online. If you look pictures and specifications online then you know everything before buying it. So why did you buy it then? Buck 110 is a classic and doesnt even have a clip and dont have any screws just pivots. People still love it. Why? Because it lasts forever. Same with this Victorinox Hunter alox. So people dont give a sh!t… The Buck 110 is even heavier while being smaller. This Victorinox is a lightweight for its size. And it is easy to clean. Pump air through it, put it in soap water and oil it. My works perfectly since 4 years. No Play in blade and it is with me almost every day in the woods. By the way the Steel is not the same. Normally Victorinox uses 1.4110 Dura, the Hunter pro alox has 1.4119 Dura. Not much difference but there definitely is a difference. It is worth its 110 Euros since made in Swizerland and not made in China. USA made or made in Germany costs the same. Yes, even for simple Steel. Dont forget about the lifetime Warranty of Victorinox. How many knives did i sent there and they got replaced or repaired after 20 years of use. I never paid even 1 Euro for that. That Warranty alone is worth the money.

  Never seen anybody use a Randall before! People pay hundreds for them and never use them. My favorite knife to use camping is my Western w49 from the Vietnam era, I love it! I have gotten some dirty looks using it and some "why would you do that?.. Because it's a knife, a good knife!

  The M15 Airman was designed for exactly that; military aircrews. It was strong & solid enough to punch through aircraft skin of all types, some aluminum, heavy nylon straps and harnesses and a combat weapon if necessary. You go down in enemy territory, especially the era of the knife's design - 1950s Korea and then later in Vietnam you aren't making fires or wasting time cutting sticks doing bushcraft nonsense. You are evading capture and attempting extraction. You want that blade as sharp as possible, so you aren't cutting stuff that you don't have to, you don't need that knife getting dull. The USMC led most of the effort to get the knife designed but afterwards it was too expensive to produce. The military choose instead the small pilot survival knife, which compared to the Randall is a piece of junk, but any blade is better than no blade when necessary. And they needed several hundred thousand of them. No way RMKs would have ever been able to produce enough knives to fill a military contract anyway which is why at the height of VN they subcontracted their military blade designed to be mass produced in Germany with all the US hardware sheaths and stones.

  You are certainly right, but neither you nor I are pilots behind enemy lines in Korea in the 1950s. For all I know it might be necessary to cut branches to hide the vehicle or build a makeshift shelter to spend the night, in waiting to be recovered. Having said that, I can clearly test a knife for my needs and interests (in this case see the difference between hollow and convex, in some uses on wood, and see the difference in comfort of the handle and the tightness of the edge) . All tests in which the Bark River was clearly superior, although the 15 is certainly effective and wins in terms of charm, history, aesthetics and sheath. I don't have aeronautical aluminum available to pierce with the Randall for testing, but I'm still sure that it would definitely remove the edge more than cleaning up some green pruning. Also no matter how stupid or useless you may think my test is, I don't think there are many tests on Randalls in general available, even less on 15 and as far as I know 99% of these knives are usually in some collection gathering dust, at least it's like that in Europe. I know collectors with dozens of new Randalls at most they have one that they use. It's not that it's wrong to collect, of course, but it's difficult to get a precise idea of the performance of something without using it or comparing it with something else. So at least you should appreciate the existence of some tests, even if they don't meet your expectations.

  I've been living and flying in light aircraft in Alaska for 50 years in all seasons and before that spent a decade in the military a good part of that in helicopters. There are few "tests" for Randall military knives anymore or military issued knives that haven't been done many many times before. Hypothetical scenarios are fun for KZread viewers but you are correct, they prove little. I suggest you read 81 Days Below Zero by Brian Murphy. Downed Army crewmember who survived the wilderness of sub artic Alaska, WW2 era, with a Boy Scout pocket knife. And read the background and designing of Randall's Model 18 from the Medivac pilot Captain Ingram. In a survival scenario whatever it might be you'd better conserve what resources you have on hand whether it's your own physical well being, your ammunition or your knife. Hiding a vehicle? Have fun on the next backyard camping trip my friend. @@zoroutdoor9
