This is a channel about comic book appreciation. Comics as a medium have always struggled with some lousy reputation and stigmas that, though diminished over time, have never really disappeared. Yes, comics are superheroes and we will discuss them in length, but a medium is not a single genre. We will also explore other aspects of comics, from its early history to European traditions, the underground movement, the coming of graphic novels, and the many different genres that make up the industry today.
In this channel, I hope to provide a bigger picture and the best starting points for new readers, while attempting to expand the horizons of seasoned readers, not only in regards to new characters and series they might want to explore but also in providing a new way to look at classic, well-known stories. Comics are an amazing, often unappreciated art form, and I hope to show viewers why they have been a part of my life for decades now.

From Superman to Superman. Great.
Hellboy is my one favorite comic character that isn't DC or Marvel!
I actually like some of the costumes on this list especially Cyclops
Never thought I'd see so many 90s suits in one video, my eyes hurt now Great job man, think you'll ever do a deadpool essential list?
@@user-hi6xk8fv1l kzread.info/dash/bejne/i2SFtq2NYtPUpMo.htmlsi=0vIXXum0ivuyvtIu This is as close as I am bound to get
@@comicbelief kind of a bummer, but it makes sense, an essential list would basically be the same video. Looking forward to supergirl next week
@@user-hi6xk8fv1l I might tackle the character again and focus on some specific storylines, but since much of his content are limited series, yes, the two would be very similar
I like disco dazzler!
Jean Grey's Phoenix costume will always be my number 1...
Special mentions for the first Catwoman, the first Zur En Arrh and the first Riddler
Even though I love Aquaman of the 1990s (because of the stories), I have to admit that Aquaman's costume at that time sucked as well as Electric Superman.
No 70's Sandman (Marvel), with underpants on his head? Stop hating 90s already
3:28 most badass costume Screw your list bro
Can't wait for you Superman, Supergirl and All series list Please make a wildstorm comics video too
@@tonyraju631 Next week, Supergirl. Followed by three videos covering every Superman run and limited series.
Some of those are good, actually. In fact, the Guy Gardner one was a lot more unique and interesting than his GL look. Also, some have been classics for so long, that it doesn't really matter if they aren't "good", like Martian Manhunter. He looks a lot more heroic in his classic design, than in any other later one. The same can be said about Cyclops, which I don't like either, but it just became a classic. Personally, I like Cable, Stryfe, Black Canary (can you believe I like that costume better than her classic one?), both Aquaman looks in the list (the camouflage look was later used for a villain, Thanatos), and disco Nightwing (which better reflected his acrobat side than his modern one). But most of the rest, are just ugly. Namor 90s look, Wonder Woman biker suit, those Thor designs, Hercules.... all very ugly.
To be honest i like the Knightfall Batman because of how excessive it is: a costume made to show the 90's worst trends created by authors that despised the 90's worst trends. P.S. when i saw you put the villains i thought "Come on, you put my man Martian Manhunter so Doctor Polaris' first costume or Joker's atrocious Death of the Family look have to be here". I'm a little dissatisfied
4:15 LOL that should be in the top 50 best costumes
I think Jupiter's Legacy. May be a separate universe. It became a universe of it's own. Calling it just a work of fiction, is incorrect. The Unfunnies is actually a work of fiction in the Millarworld series.
I really don't find The Unfunnies as horror anymore. I find it always as a black comedy. There is a comic like that. And it's named Survival Street. It's basically like The Unfunnies, but with Muppets in the post-apocalyptic setting. And also a black comedy too.
I own the following Geoff Johns books: 1. Superman and the Legion of Superheroes 2. Superman Last Son 3. Aquaman Vol 1 The Trench 4. Aquaman Vol 2 The Others 5. Aquaman Vol 3 The Throne of Atlantis 6. Aquaman Vol 4 The Death of A King 7. Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Book 1 8. The Blackest Night 9. Green Lantern War of the Green Lanterns 10. New 52 Green Lantern Vol 1 Sinestro 11. New 52 Green Lantern Vol 2 The Revenge of Black Hand 12. New 52 Green Lantern Vol 3 The End
I own the following Mark Waid books: 1. Kingdom Come 2. Daredevil Vol 1 The Devil by the Bay 3. Daredevil Vol 1 4. Fantastic Four Vol 1 Imaginaunts
I have one book with Alex Ross as the artist and that is Kingdom Come but I also have 2 books with him as the cover artist: Fantastic Four Vol 1 Whatever Happened to the Fantastic Four by Ryan North and Doctor Strange Vol 1 The Life of Doctor Strange by Jed MacKay.
My favorite Mark Millar book is Superman Red Son.
I would also recommend the "Love's labours lost" collection best read between Frank Millers original run and Born Again storyline
Can you do a best of for Alpha Flight, too? I still need to read the rest of the Byrne run (Although Byrne didn’t like doing the book .).

Ever thought of ranking superhero mantles/legacy characters?
@@lukelay3823 I did a Best Revamps that included several legacy characters. But I might do something more specific soon. I’m toying with the idea of a series of character rankings - wizards, soldiers, monsters, sidekicks, the list is vast…
Constantine?

Essencial Supergirl?
@@rogeriopaixaopeceguini8350 Coming in two weeks, followed by Every Superman Run.
Marvel should make a MAX Omnibus from the horror based characters: Blade, Man-Thing, Zombie, Hellstrom, Werewolf by Night etc.
pheNOMANal video. Straight, to the point, well researched. liked and subbed.
This list is ridiculous. Most of the cartoonists here are great artists, but some comic geniuses are missing, especially French, South American and Italian. Alberto Breccia and Sergio Toppi are not here! In general there are too many American cartoonists, many of whom are considered great only because their characters are famous. I'm sorry to say it, but this list was made by very ignorant people.
Batman year 1?
@@a.potato9464 Yeah, I didn’t include it because it was published in the monthly series, and at the same time I thought a four-issue story didn’t qualify as a “run”. Otherwise it would be a top 3, for sure. Funny enough, the original plan was for Year One to be a limited series, but DC opted to publish it in the Batman monthly series as a way to bring new readers to the title.
@@comicbelief I didn't know it ran within detective comics well thanks for the clarification
Is Schism collected on any sort of Omnibus or large book for that nature?
@@godzillagus8358 I don’t believe so. Even Prelude to Schism and the tie-ins to Generation Hope are separate collections. I thought it might be part of the Wolverine & the X-Men series omnibus, or the Avengers vs X-Men omnibus, but a quick search shows this is not the case.
@@comicbelief then do I understand correctly that Schism fits in between Wolverine & the X-Men Omnibus and AvX Omnibus? Curious choice to leave it out. I can only speculate why since I'm so behind in the timeline. Many thx for the response 🙂
@@godzillagus8358 Actually, Schism fits before both. It’s the event that launches the Wolverine & the X-Men series, then only a few months later we get Avengers vs X-Men. Schism impacts on both series and should be read before them. But since Schism had a prelude series, and they also gave AvX its own prelude (an unnecessary cash-grab about Cable), I guess putting them all together would seem unwieldy.
Ngl, came for the archetypes, had an impromptu blues session instead 😂. Song is a banger
I work with comics every day. What exactly is the "top ten" supposed to denote? Kamandi is a top ten but Avengers 1 and X-Men 1 aren't? How? In what world? (With respect, cool vid.)
@@frightmikesart Fair point. I tried to judge not the Avengers or X-Men as a whole, but Kirby’s specific run. For the Avengers, that was only 8 issues, for the X-Men it was 17. One can argue that the Avengers only became great after the issue 16 shake up, while the X-Men took more than a decade to become great. When I think of Lee and Kirby, I think of Fantastic Four, Thor, Captain America…
@@comicbelief Wow, that's very interesting and an unusual perspective but I respect it. I feel like all Kirby is great Kirby, regardless of his span on a particular series. Do you have a video like this for Ditko, Kubert, Wood, Buscema Bros, Romita? Those would be cool to do, I feel.
@@frightmikesart I make more videos on writers than artists. Either because they appeal more to me or because I find words easier to judge than art. I did a video on Alex Ross a while back, and I did one on George Perez, which I’m yet to upload. More to come, certainly
@@comicbelief Oh I'll definitely check both those out, legends. Cool
Im just a Jim Steranko , Michael Golden fan representing. Throw in some Clairmont and Perez and im good!
