A new homesteader in Central New York. Come with me on my journey from city mouse to country mouse as I learn all the skills for a comforting and thriving new home
I'll bet you're glad those paths are done and everything's looking great. The chickens seem to be settling in nicely.

@AlmostaGreenAcre-zs5eu7 күн бұрын
Haha, you have to train those chicks to come follow you for a treat. Put something (like their feed even) in a bucket and shake it in front of them and then toss a tiny bit on the ground (repeat shake and toss, lol) and keep walking in the direction you wish them to go 🙂No more chasing once they get used to the shake and toss method.

Those cute masked bandits are very clever in finding chicken feed! Hehe. We tie a rope now onto our trap because two years ago, we trapped a skunk! A little distance plus a tarp aided our release efforts! My son is starting a new job in Edmstn. If you get a chance, Hyde Hall has a lighted ghost tour in the autumn and is on Glimmerglass. Just beautiful anytime of the year to walk around.

If your apple trees are missing bark all the way around the trunk (girdled) they will die. Nothing can be done about that. If they aren’t girdled I suggest caging/fencing the trunks so deer etc can’t strip the remaining bark.

Not girdled, thankfully. Just had the tips taken off.

Yummy strawberry jam, I do a bit of canning, meats, jams, fruits. I invested in 2 pressure canners and 2 waterbaths years ago. I'm so glad that I did because now they are doubled in price here in Australia. 🍓🍓🍓
