Is it possible to TRAVEL YOURSELF HAPPY? Let's find out !
We are the Cookes, Nicola, and Nigel. We loved to travel. In 2018 we bought and converted a VW van and spent 3 years traveling around the UK and Ireland. At the time we also travelled with our beloved cat, Guinness. She was 20. Sadly we lost Guinness in Feb of 2020 and then well the rest of the world went to pot.
After a few 3 month trips to northern Spain and France, In early 2023 we sold our property back in Ireland and hit the road full time. For the remainder of 2023 we explored Spain, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.
2024 plans are being formed and we look forward to bringing your guys along for the ride.
This channel will primarily focus on our travels, with the odd smattering of photography and food thrown in for good measure.
Travel safe.

Looks amazing, Happy birthday Nicola 🎉
Nicola, the joy you get from exploring these ancient sites is wonderful to watch. You seem both relaxed and excited at the same time. Perhaps some archeological studies are in your future. 👍
GO I believe and say its just a brick
Greate u do ur life count
Looks like a stunning area. I’ve added it to our list of places to visit on our motorhome travels. Have you ever considered using walking poles? I dismissed them for years but actually they take around 2 stone of your body weight through them which helps your joints as well as a help when going up or down anything steep. I use them all the time now.
@@alisonm26 thanks .. yes we often use then on the more strenuous hikes .. good for extra stability on the down slopes :)
"we had diner there as well, I think it was around 7000 pounds" Yup... the common heart attack in Norway 😆
@@walkingoffthebeatenpath hehe … yeah just when all the hiking gets you healthy .. the food and beer bill finishes you of :)
Just amazingly beautiful 😍 What a fabulous hike and determination despite the mini-beasties. Happy Birthday Nicola! 🎂
@@rnrmannix-kn2ui thanks … it was spectacular location ..
Great work in the heat with all those people. All looked super but Acrocorinth looked most exciting 😊
Acrocorinth was absolutely stunning and a must do if in the area .. just beautiful .. and FREE !!!
Im exhausted just watching!
It was indeed a pretty tiring day :)
Which Perfume would you suggest ?😂
Wow ❤ loved it. I have a special love for all things Greek. Thank you 🙏
Thanks for following along … We are loving Greece
I could feel the heat while watching you chasing all the good spots😛 - crazy how full of people at the Akropolis😮
@@nicolestruck2468 yeah as much as we enjoyed it … so many people … so many sweaty panting people :)
What a fantastic birthday trip. Belated happy birthday 🎉
@@alisonm26 thanks so much …
You two are such noobs. 5 minutes online and you would have found out about the combo ticket. I did the combo with my brother in '02 and it was like 8 euros. Then I did it again with 2 other brothers and it was like 10. The air was exceptionally clear on the Acropolis in the vid. You were lucky. Too many tourists though. I like it how you don't give any info whatsoever about the sights there. It's a fascinating place. Read about it a little to deepen your experience. If I had a whistle, I'd blow it at you.
Wow what a birthday treat! Happy belated birthday Nicola ( Im a june bday too 25th!) fab video yet again x
@@sallybiddick was a great way to finish our time in the area
Athens has excellent museums. You should have planned for a more extended stay to visit a couple or three. The Acropolis Museum, The National Archaeological Museum and the Benaki Museum are on the top of the list. In fact if one visits the Acropolis Museum before visiting Acropolis itself, one acquires a much better understanding of the site itself.
@@razisn yes … I think if we are back in Greece we will spend more time in Athens
Thanks for taking me/us to the Acropolis. One of the destinations on my "Bucket List" that I won't get to on my own.
@@mbtaiji thanks for following along … we loved Athens … just needed more time :)
Can you be more precise about the 2 free parking spots you mentioned in Stavanger please?

@@TheTravellersCookeBook ,thank you. I appreciate the time you took to do that. As you can tell, I really enjoy your channel and for some obscure reason, trust your opinions😜
@@helenvwalker7919 interesting it no longer appears on P4N .. so perhaps no longer possible ?
Another corker!! Love how your joy jumps out of the screen.... also giggled out loud at Nicola's battle with exhaustion vs curiosity!!!
Thanks so much … Greece certainly is delivering on the happy vibes … it’s bloomin exhausting keeping up with her :)
Did thé hike in June 2023...in full snow👍but thé way down was hell..i hate that forest 🤭
@@evabrits549 it was indeed a nitemare .. but what a hike … what a day … what a country !!
Great video! Well done for showing us so much in that heat. We all have big eyes for lovely food and never too late to remember, but what a good time.😅 The crater is like Tiscali on Sardinia, but easier access. Check it out even if it's a sink hole. Cheers RnR😎
Thanks for taking the time to comment … ah cool .. yeah will add it to our ever growing list :)
Bloody hot here in Ottawa, Canada but no where near as scenic as where you two were baking!
:) yeah the heat is getting a bit crazy
Those are not craters, in the sense that they were caused by a meteorite, they are sinkholes or dolines.
Ah ok .. thanks for the info
Please, speak less, show more landscape, not you!
It’s a beautiful day …
The music makes it ❤
I have walked the Karhunkierros trail (82km) back in 2018, in October so there was barely anyone around. Such an amazing trail with all the beautiful scenery that Finland has to offer. This video took me back to that special time, thank you 💛
Stunning trail indeed … one for the ‘to do’ list :)
That pool looked so inviting . . .
It was indeed rather nice :)
Was great meeting both of you! Eleni -your "groupie" from Castleview Camping and Bungalows 😊
And you … thanks for the cold beers :)
Travelling In Greece is on my bucket list ❤❤❤ well done guys
We are absolutely loving Greece … stunning … friendly …. Just wow
Under the current situation those were unlikely to have been 'Russian mobsters'. Probably Ukrainian ones.. mobsters or politicians, no difference.
You seem to be taking risks with your health and well being. Please be careful not to increase the number of tourists which every year get dangerously sick or lose their lives in Greece during the summer thinking they can do, under intense sun and heat, what they're used in doing back home in their northern climate.
Your videos just get better and better!
Thanks for your kind words :)
Enjoy ❤
A welcome taste of real summer weather watching from a very chilly, wet and windy cornwall!!! Beautiful footage as always... loving seeing the likes and views numbers rising for you- definitely worthy of much higher numbers in my opinion xx
Thanks for your loverly words … sorry about the weather back in the UK
What a joyous video!!! Such enjoyable viewing. The collapsing chocolate cup at the end had me giggling too!!
Hehe … I think she has learnt her lesson .. 1 chocolate cup per serving …. Oh who am I kidding … she’s being doing it again off camera :) Thanks as always for watching and taking the time to comment :) Greece really is making us smile :)
Hallo gais!my foto with you were is?
Momemvasia in Greece ..
A Bourbon, a Tim Tam, a good old Digestive biscuit? No, no, no! Nicola has the right idea - 'When in Greece, eat a Greek biscuit, not an UK or Australian one ". 😊
Dunking transcends location ….. :)
Really enjoying the channel. Can I ask how you have dealt with Schengen and also what work do you do on the road if that’s not too personal. BTW I’m also grew up in Cambridge (many years ago now).
Thanks for following along … the 90 day rule does not apply to us (Irish) … Graphics, photography, writing, pet sitting, photography …
Great to be able to do so much on your travels.
Hey great vid. Musical interludes need to be turned down from 10 to 5 imho. I love the Peloponnese. I hitch hiked it in 1989 when I first came here. It has tons of great archeology. You'll find these places. I traveled there once in May when the citrus trees were in bloom and the whole peninsula had this incredible citrusy aroma. One place you might want to visit is the Kardamyli home once owned by author Patrick Leigh Fermor on the peninsula's west coast. Fermor was considered the UK's greatest travel writer and participated in the Resistance against the Nazis in Crete. The man had this incredible life, and wrote a number of masterpieces on Greece. The home's a writer's retreat now, I think, and was the setting for the film Before Midnight. Crappy movie, but nice photography.
Thanks for your feedback … yes getting the music volume can be difficult sometimes as we all have different hearing. (Nigel is a bit deaf .. or so he tells me) Wow .. hitching in 1989 .. must have felt like a whole different world .. no Google maps then :) Thanks for the heads up .. added to our growing list of travel pins :) A return is certainly on the cards :)
Anyone going to the mediterranean at this time of the year is crazy. Micheal Mossley died of heat stroke.
Here is a list of the generally coolest and hottest seaside areas in Greece. Avoid the hottest ones when a heatwave is expected. Coolest: The Aegean islands apart from the easternmost Dodecanese islands and the south of Crete. Hottest (in no particular order): 1. Easternmost Dodecanese islands 2. the south of Crete 3. Southeast and East Peloponnese up to Nafplion town 4. the mainland coast north of the Gulf of Corinth, 5. the west of Evia island north of Chalkis and the respective mainland coast opposite that, 6. the coast of the Saronic gulf (gulf of Athens) both on the mainland and on the Peloponnese.
Thanks so much for taking the time to send us this .. we have managed to find a shelter /shady campsite by the coast and are hunkering down waiting for the warmest weather to pass … I think tonight and tomorrow day / night will be the hottest so far .. so we are glad to have the shade / ocean / a slight breeze … again thanks so much for the information … much appreciated ..
And we'll have another heatwave this week guys! Please stay safe.
Yes it looks like it’s going to get quite hot indeed … speaking to locals not normal for this location at this time of year ….
@@TheTravellersCookeBook yeah it's not normal at all for this time of year. We've barely even had a winter and now heatwave after heatwave in June??? Nope. Just depending on the region it's worse or better temperature wise I mean. Cities will be boiling hot either way unfortunately 😕
typically EPIC Greek views, WOW
We are loving Greece … simply stunning
@@TheTravellersCookeBook ahh stop i'm seriously jealous
‘The biggest bang I’ve ever heard’ says the man from Northern Ireland. It really must have been loud.
Haha … indeed … it was so dam loud
Amazing scenery to broil amidst. The sausage on the fork would have probably cooked itself in no time! 😃
Hehe … saves on LPG :)
