I can assure you that the Australian government doesn't plan anything cool like that. Unless some US companies can make money destroying the environment, then we aren't interested.

“People living in the area” and then show a clip of Time Square. 😂 About as far away as you can get and still be in the US.

It sounds like there hasn't been a deadly or destructive flood near the L.A. river since it was built. Nice work and it is iconic! Thanks for da video, Mike in DFW

Why did the army core concrete the whole thing? Wouldn’t it have made more sense just to concrete the levee parts and not the riverbed itself

as a Flemish Belgian this concrete tube NEVER made sense. We have tons of artificial canals hailing all the way back to the earlier stages of the industrial revolution, the earliest were still intended to pull barges along by horses. despite all of this these canals always looked fine. during that same period city canals were covered up yet we started opening these back up in the early to late 20th century and now the cities are vibrant. I would go the way of ghent for portions of the river and make the rest wilder, but it would require river parcs

I don't get why seepage and evaporation are treated like a bad thing, thats exactly what the point of the plan is.

Paris should follows the L.A. example (that will be hard because some of the buildings surronding the Seine river are nearly 1000 years old)

The only downside is now more cool race scenes in movies there, but from any logical perspective, the new idea is a huge improvement

Lol its LA... you really think the people care enough to keep it nice? It'll go from an "eye sore" to an overly polluted river.

Its staggering how stupid and short sighted people are. Who thought it was a good idea to just pave over an entire river. They need to tear it all up, remove all the concrete. We need to stop destroying nature and instead of working against it, work with it. There is so much room for nature in even the biggest and uglisest cities, if you just give it space.

So the thumbnail shows presumably native vegetation in the “before” photo and a bunch of cacti in the “after” photo. Cacti are not native to the Sahara region or anywhere in Africa so is this all invasive vegetation coming up now as a result of this new technology? I wonder what the real landscape looks like with the additional water that is supposed to be getting added to the soil using this method.

You can tell where peoples hearts are with things. If you out that much of yourself and cash into Friends of the LA River while homeless people in that same city exist is disgusting. Just opinion i know.. sadly is a rare one.

I u derstand that Industry has polluted this river with chemicals but it wasn't them that polluted the river with plastic bottles and bags! The government surely is responsible for that type of pollution plus the people. A good start has been made, I do hope they keep it up.

Awesome effort to cleaning up the River. Along way to go, but don’t give up, every country in the world should clean up theirs too. We humans dump our waste but we should by law in every country clean it up - if we don’t we will all suffer. Water is vital for all life on Earth, let’s clean it up.
