SometimesBuilds

Welcome to the Sometimes Builds. Where we work on projects we promised to start "sometime!". We have a 1988 VW Vanagon, Toyota Tundra, Toyota Tacoma, 2000 Subaru Impreza, 1998 Subaru Impreza RSTI and a 2022 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Oh we also do camping and work at Uncle Charlies property.... and fix the occasional septic system. ugh.

    I just bought a 2023 Sierra and the taillights on the trailer stay on all the time. I also get running light errors on the console in the truck. I'm assuming the same issue as yours.

    I thought the stock speakers in the Wilderness were the Harmon Kardon? Aren't those decent? Or do you need a specific option to get those?

  • @TheSometimesBuilds
    @TheSometimesBuilds15 сағат бұрын

    Harman Kardon is what I have in my 2020 limited and yeah they are amazing speakers. For whatever reason this year wilderness gets the cheap parts bin speakers. Weird since it’s a special model.

    Check your engine electrical grounds. Should be one with good contact left side engine to left firewall. If it's the small braided cable replace with a plastic shielded battery style cable from local parts store. Check distributor cap, rotor button, and plug/plug wires next. The loud tapping noise sounds like a hydraulic lifter or two have bled out. Sometimes they'll pump back up. Might be good to check valve clearances if it hasn't been done yet.

  • @medicmaniac193
    @medicmaniac19328 күн бұрын

    Replace engine. 😅there’s no other better fix for misfire. You could try smoke testing the engine and see if you have a vacuum leak. Also..You’ve got a stuck lifter from the sounds of it.. sometimes lifter oil by liqui moly helps. I replaced my stuck lifter and it went right back after about 100 miles.. 😂 I say ditch the lights. I made curtains for my van using flat aluminum bars from Lowe’s.. then we hang small lights from the bars..it’s easy..

  • @TheSometimesBuilds
    @TheSometimesBuilds24 күн бұрын

    🫠 I’m hoping it doesn’t come to that! Very true about the vac leak. The hoses are rotten and that very well could be the issue. I’ll grab some lifter oil and try that too. Next Vanagon video (filmed and scheduled for release already) I did plugs, wires, cap and rotor and injectors. Improved power but it will still hesitate and stall out at times. 😩

    @medicmaniac19314 күн бұрын

    @@TheSometimesBuilds sorry man.. it does sound like a leak of sorts. Vanagons are frustrating as heck.. even after I’ve replaced the engine, rebuilt the tranny, and gobs of other things…mine still has gremlins… there’s a reason why old people own them…it’s because they have patients for the continuous diagnosing of problems.. lol

  • @redheadhemi

    Always check spark plugs first. Check the valve lash. I'm with you on not wanting to ruin the trim but self tapping the lights on may be a last ditch option.

  • @TheSometimesBuilds
    @TheSometimesBuilds24 күн бұрын

    Yeah had to do the self tappers. Just tired of dealing with those things everytime I work on it. Doing a full tuneup in the next Vanagon video. Plugs, wires, cap rotor and injectors. Filmed and scheduled. (spoiler: but it didn’t fix the problem 🫠)

    Those Norton abrasive wheels are great. But the downside of all abrasive wheels is they don't handle side-loading well at all. I was using a 10" wheel on a pipe-cutting table to cut chain when the chain slipped form the c-clamps and the blade shattered into about thirty pieces, several of which really tried to puncture me.

  • @TheSometimesBuilds

    This is kind of how my brother made his brick fire ring in the back yard. The first course (no mortar used) of red bricks fully above grade was set like the even-numbered panels here. That way, air was always able to feed in at the bottom of the fire. If there was more than a gentle breeze, he could get a fire tornado in the pit.

    Speaker sensitivity measured in dB is the amount of power required to drive a speaker. The higher the number the more efficient they are requiring less power to drive them

    Consider this constructive criticism as being given with best intentions, but this was not a great video. You didn't really show anything that was happen or comment on it. The camera was always far away. You didn't say what specifically you were doing in the steps and what the products did. How much of the sound deadening did you use? How much did it cost? You didn't show the stock speaker until the very end of the video - why was it terrible? What did it sound like? You also didn't show much of how the new speakers sounded - did they sound better? Were they louder? Honestly, this video feels like this guy was going to install this in his car and you decided to film it and just kind of hung around while he did it.

  • @TheSometimesBuilds

    Appreciate the feedback and definitely welcome it. Will take all this into consideration for future videos and may end up dropping this video because you’re very right. It was rushed. Thank you again for commenting and giving me a lot to think on for future videos.

    synthetic cones are fine and are more resistant to the elements. plus they are lightweight. [better source, better sound] RMS is just the fancy way of giving the range the speaker will be happiest. Choosing speakers more aligned with the item driving them. Higher numbers aren't always better. I hate it when mfgrs add all the speakers highest power handling range on the box like "100w", when in actuality, the 2 speakers work btwn 5w and 50w. But 50w isn't as sexy as 100w.

    It was from buying things off of him and always the “pay me back whenever” type of finance loan. That in addition to him being the go to for the usual questions of “what’s the best ______ to buy?”. That evolved the name. And then I used it once on a video and it somehow stuck. “Uncle Charlie, he’s there for you” seal of approval.

    I have a Kubota L2600DT 2002 cut you old belt off. Take the new belt and put in behind the fan by bending blades slightly then bring the whole belt back over the fan and shaft. place belt on fan pulley and around crank pulley. Next take a 12mm wrench and remove tensioner bolt. Then take TWO 14mm wrenches and remove the lower alternatore bolt and nut (nut is in the front. With alternator removed (leave on electrical) place belt around the alternator pulley and then put in the tensioner bolt. You will have to wiggle and waggle but the lower long bolt will fit back in and then when you are tighting the tensioner and lower bolt it will all "reset' back to normal. 10 minutes to 15 minutes but for me 90 minutes because I did not want to take off the alternator. Take it off life will be easier.
