Watching this classic material from an era when Britain was superior with its RAF standards quality & aircraft that was superior makes me proud. I do not see this standard anymore.

As a teenager (pre RAF airframe mech and retraining as Aircrew GD/Navigator) I used to c/o complete overhauling of Gypsy Major 10 Mk 2s (RAF Mk 8) plus Cirrus Minor2s and Cirrus Majors. In this video the filming chase aircraft starts out with the sound of a Beagle Bassetl Mk 2 (twin flat 6 cyl Lycomings, with a dash of Rolls-Royce Merlin, oh deep joy!

There's a certain calm refinement about the instructors. I see it in watching the other old BBC documentary on KZread, Fighter Pilot. They're of a certain time perhaps, but certainly of a certain breed.

I used to love flying in these when I was in the ATC . I amased 17 hours dule and 1hr 3 mins solo according to my 3822. Never did a take off or landing solo all my solo was done once airborne. We once traced the river wharfe from source to its confluence when flying from Linton on ouse.

My father, Dennis Pritchard, owned a Chipmunk in 1966, G-APPM, WB711, Based at Biggin Hill. He thought very highly of it, although he said it was rather noisy and leaked oil. He was friends with Sheila Scott, and once met his hero, Douglas Barder.

I did my first solo on a Chipmunk at Woodvale on the Liverpool University Air Squadron. Like many others,I can remember it today, 60 years later. AS luck would have it, ATC told me to overshoot so, first solo and all, I got myself an extra circuit, plus a chance to do the overshoot procedure, slightly modified, ahem, and fun, fun, fun! We went on to aerobatics, formation take-offs etc, stalls, spins (recovery from which those tail strikes visible in the video, were fitted). Happy Days and fabulous to see so many together there! Thanks a lot, guys!
