u might explain the situation in the desc, but its still not a "fateful day" a fateful day is much more than this, this is just a normal accident and a fateful day would be something like 11 broken ribs, idk, crushed leg, cripplingly broken spine, shit like that

people just dont understand why did he "jump off" the bike. it is g forces . if you dont know what these are it is basically the load on your body that can happen because of gravity and strong acceleration. that also could be because of wind . he was going very fast on a bike. considering he was holding a bit longer when he "jumped off"

Why is the description of this video so defensive/angry 😂😂 Those comments when this video first got uploaded really did a number on this guy

Happy to answer that. The long description was added about 8 years after the original video was posted, in response to the countless hordes of very assertive but completely wrong speculation, insults and just mean-spirited comments. The description is not so much angry as condescending I'd suggest. Yes it's pleasing to see the complimentary admiring comments or respect for Chris' courage as a rider over a very long time, including his 8 national championships at a truly death-defying sport, but if the comments section of this video is a reflection of society as a whole, the gene pool is indeed shallow and the planet is doomed.

Fateful Definition: having far-reaching and often disastrous consequences or implications. (By oxford) I guess it depends on whether you think what happened is disastrous. Considering that he had relatively superficial damage, I would not agree with the use case of the word fateful here. The consequences were both far from disastrous, nor were they far reaching. It would have been disastrous if he had gotten badly and permanently injured, and far reaching could have been if there had been regulations that changed the sport to make it safer, or something similar.

Thanks for the analysis. Chris was conscious in emergency care later that day but that ankle was badly smashed and it affected his riding for the remaining ten years of his career. He was drugged up and talking nonsense. Today that leg is still weak and he still carries a limp. Three times in his riding life he's need to be jump started or intensive care when the vitals have gone haywire in hospital. Crazy glutton for punishment. The burns were severe too. You can see the smoke from the leathers - they were the finest heavy leather and it burned through all 3 layers almost instantly in places so he's got scars. When you talk to him he plays it down but he has been a death's door a few times. Notably in Darwin when a plug lead came off, touched the frame, and blew both hands off the handlebars at some ridiculous speed. In 2010 his helmet came off in a night crash into the gravel trap and rolled down the track. Amidst all the dust the marshalls saw the helmet and thought he'd decapitated himself. Funny now, not so much then. I think that 2013 incident definitely qualifies as fateful. It affects him every day. Not totally disastrous but definitely "far reaching".

tl;dr because nobody has time for that essay, he was going so fast the wind lifted him off the bike. Notice how he suddenly changes direction after falling off, that's aerodynamics for you.
