    I had trouble with 300 blk out. People that sell barrels dont tell gas port size but some do. I found gas port size is all over the map. I bought one barrel where they stated they opened them up because manufacturer made the port to small.

  • @shortreloadingvideos7571

    some barrels seem to be anticipating a suppressor on them, which would generally require less of a gas port. Seems silly to me to not err on the larger side, overgas the gun and let people put an adjustable on it to lower the volume.

    DON'T DO ANYTHING until you know that the muzzle threads are the problem. It's easy to confirm that the threads are either within spec or are not within spec using a micrometer and thread measuring wires. Don't go filing on the threads until you know that they need work. Also, hand filing can easily cause the threads to become out of concentricity with the bore. This could cause a catastrophic baffle strike! If the muzzle threads are indeed out of spec, send it back to the manufacturer. They should stand behind their work. Muzzle threads should be class 3. Machinery's handbook has the specs.

  • @shortreloadingvideos7571
    @shortreloadingvideos7571Ай бұрын

    If you watch the video, you'll note know we chased the threads on the muzzle device with a brand new tap and it didn't remove any meaningful material. That's how we knew our muzzle threads had shallow roots. Lacking a die, we used a thread conditioning file. Regardless if you use thread wires, if you have to touch those threads your concentricity is at stake, although not nearly to the alarming level you are trying to imply. The manufacturer offered to take the barrel back, I declined and cleaned up the roots myself and things work fine.

    I tried this idea a few years ago. It made my BCG all ickey and barely able to charge it. I ended up with an adjustable gas block and a 3oz buffer. It was for 300BO.

  • @shortreloadingvideos7571
    @shortreloadingvideos75712 ай бұрын

    I'm glad it worked for you, however, a fixed gas block provides more gas than an adjustable, as adjustables can only by definition go down from 100%. The buffer change likely helped a lot.

    I made my own RCBS style, collet, bullet puller. Why? I have to do something with those damn machinist machines I bought! 😁 The bullet puller works great. I have a collet for .308 and .224. I do not get any collet marks on the bullets I pull. I'm wondering why yours does that.

    I was having a lot of double feeds and a lot of short stroking on my new m&p10. I'm not comfortable with shipping my gun across the us so I decided to take it apart myself. The port was only a 1/16 of an inch big. Research showed that it needed to be 5/64 of an inch big. Any thoughts?

  • @shortreloadingvideos7571
    @shortreloadingvideos75712 ай бұрын

    sounds like it's not large enough. The area of a 1/16 diameter circle is 0.003068 The area of a 5/64 diameter circle is 0.004794 That is 36% less area. If you drill the barrel out too large and over gas it, you'd have to put an adjustable gas block on it and turn it down a little and it would be fine. I'd put the drill to it myself and step it up a little. It's not too difficult as you already have a large pilot hole, just protect the bore and go slow.

    Well part of the deal is to use a full length sizing die once you're done forming, trying to not size it too small. Once it fits in the chamber snugly, the fireforming it will make it fit right. Some people use powder and a filler, I just load it up mildly for most of what I do. Once it's been fired once, you can use it however you'd like in my opinion.

    I like 2 die sets for bottleneck rifle cases. Personally I like Lee's seating dies and RCBS' sizing dies. Maybe get one from Lee and one from RCBS and see what you think. Note: RCBS didn't used to and probably still does not send you a shell holder with the die set. The extra dies are either neck sizing dies, which I never use or crimp dies which I don't often use. If you find the 3 die set for the same cost as a 2 die set, I'd go for it, but I wouldn't probably hardly ever use that extra die.

    totally forgot about the ballast weight in the container under the pan. For some reason over the years, my scale was slightly heavier when everything was set to zero. I found several different sizes of metal pellets in the ballast container. By trial and error, I removed the correct amount to get the beam to settle closer to zero than before with the scale itself more level on the base as well. Then I made a slight up and down adjustment on the base adjustment foot, located on the bottom left end. Now its perfectly zero when the slide and the micro adjustments are set to zero. Man, friend, let me give you a good piece of advice if you want to build a good following on KZread. Rehearsals are good for calming nerves and getting mistakes out of your viewer's sight. You also need to choose your words correctly, or you don't look like you know what you are talking about. It is a case neck turner and trims the case neck into outside uniformity in thickness with the inside of the case. Not a "tarimmering" as you made a word out of trimmer and turner. It is a totally different process than lapping is for a scope or anything else. You're running your drill way too fast, which can cause a burn in your brass. You have a good idea, just slow down and get things together. I have used neck turning to get single digit groups!

    Hello, Turning the neck should only be done to make the neck the same thickness all the way around. If the neck gets too thin, it will split when fired. The SAAMI specification for 243 Winchester shows the neck to be 0.276" and the bullet to be 0.243" This means 0.276 - 0.243 = 0.033. Divide by 2 and you get a neck thickness of 0.0165".
