Narrowboat Girl

Narrowboat Girl

Hi my name is Emma. I am 16 years old and I live on a narrowboat with my Mum and our 5 dogs. We travel the river and canal network of England and Wales as continuous cruisers. We live off grid using solar for our electricity, getting our water from water points and using a compost toilet. I am homeschooled. I love filming and editing my videos and also taking photographs. I film a variety of videos including cruising videos, cooking and craft videos and vlogging videos about my life aboard a narrowboat. Come and join my adventures.

(we have moved off the boat now, but will try to upload every few months!!)

Hang in NBG! It’s really tough and inconvenient when things go wrong. I regret that you are not alone with with the other conditions you have, apart from POTS. Late onset Diabetes is my beef, apart from autism, and trust me, I empathise with absolutely all your symptoms. Don’t forget that you are cherished by your family and friends. Instead of a narrow boat, my home is a 34ft yacht. A bit too wide and deep for uk waterways and the 40’ mast gets in the way…

Yeah, the heart is not unimportant. 🙂 I got atrial fibrillation, which was repaired in a mostly ambulatory surgery - the difference that made is mindblowing! Fortunately the heart is well understood and very sturdy and if I understood you right you're guaranteed to get / have gotten surgery yourself. It'll make / will have made a massive difference and your next Christmas should be much more festive 😀

Nice to see a d hear you again, Emma. I know you've been through some difficult times and so sorry about the loss of Angel. Unfortunately, we humans tend to outlive our dogs, so it's always sad when they pass. You are looking very well and I love you hairband colour. Enjoy your new camera xx

Emma, Wishing you have a better year this year than recent for yourself and Fiona. I note other posters have mentioned Lyme disease that can be caught from tick bites with the disease being dormant for years. Worth having it crossed off the list of things to test for. I've watched you grow up through your canal adventures and hope you are able to get out and about soon. All the best.

Its good to talk about how you feeling , college etc. Dont let weak bullies get to you and bring you down to there levels, Homeschooling is good , you are a testament to it working. You can do City and Guilds and functional skills level 2 at home.

Hi Emma (and Fiona), I have been following you on and off since your Vlog of day One and it is hard to equate the images of that active young lady dashing around the locks and narrowboat with you discussing your cool electric wheelchair. By the way, love the chair and hope it gives you the mobility you are looking for. The heart diagnosis show that you were not trying to put something over the College so they really should have made the effort to properly support you. Back in my late 40s (1998) I tried to do an IT degree with a disability and the University made all sorts of provisions and allowances for me. Even paid a stipend to another student to take lecture notes for me because I had difficulty writing by hand without pain. Then one Course Director decided that I was faking and refused to support me using Dragon NaturallySpeaking for writing code so I had to do it by hand. I passed that course but it left me with considerable extra damage to my muscles and I had to drop out because I couldn't manage the pain levels. Support and understanding from your educational providers are absolutely essential and the College failed that aspect in a big way. Do make sure to report their failure to the Education Authority. Not for yourself as you have already moved on, but to help protect others that might enroll on the basis of supposed support which will turn out to be as nonexistent as you found. I gave up on my further education aspirations because the added injury which could have been avoided if the support had been consistent across the board. I am hopeful that a level playing field can be found for you and you can follow your dreams for higher education. Don't let others steal your dreams by their petty-mindedness. They don't have that right! By now Christmas will be over and you will all be looking forward to the beginning of the New Year. Trusting that you (and of course Fiona) will have a good start to 2024 and make it a year of successes. Wishing you both all the very best from South Australia.

I have several young friends who have gotten their degrees from online schools. It took some searching and finding the right program..often finding happiness in fields that they didnt evenvthink of doing before needing to choose online universities. One is in the medical field and now has a job she can do from home.

Hi Emma, I'm so sorry to hear about your issues at the moment, and although it's rather late to say so, I hope you did manage to have a good Christmas. When I clicked on your video, I wasn't really expecting to hear this sort of news from you, so I felt it important that I let you know, that you are in my thoughts, and I hope that it can make a difference. I know that it's been some time since I last wrote a comment, but I've always kept a passing interest in what's going on with you, because you have been a good loyal KZreadr, and have been good with responding to many of your followers, such as myself. In your video, you said that it's good to know the reason (or reasons) for your particular set of ailments, and that knowing this, helps to define what you're actually dealing with. It did cross my mind when you described your tiredness, that you could also have the effects of 'Long Covid' as a possible side effect too. This is a condition that effects a small percentage of people who have previously had the Covid virus, and it can be very debilitating in some cases. Hopefully though, this would have already been considered, and ruled out in your particular case, if your doctor was fully aware of it. Anyway, I just thought I'd mention it, even if it happens to be irrelevant in your case. Wishing you a better year ahead... and take care!.
