Good job. I was 23 and it was wonderful
Many thanks, ...I agree, I think part of me will always be back there.⏳
Wow that brought back some great memories of Oran Park. My eldest brother Shane and his mate Keyes raced there when I was a little fella. I really did enjoy watching that.
Thanks Stuart, for your positive comments and glad the video took you back to some memorable times.... Cheers mate!
Great time with good old innocent fun.I miss those days.I lived in Randwick for many years and would go to the show all the time especially on the last day (children’s day).My school friends had jobs there on weekends and holidays.
Thanks for your comments Terry, a special time for many of us.⏳
I wish they took both cable cars to the new showgrounds
I raced at Oran Park in 1972 in my club, Bankstown Wiley Park Motor Cycle Club on various bikes and had the best time on all of them, especially the TR3 250 Yamaha factory bike. I had a 40 year break from bikes when I went to uni but am back in the saddle now having a great careful time and enjoying the memories of the Park. I saw Agostini race there and many more heroes of the era; Willing, Hansford, Hindle, etc. Thanks for the well put together video.
Many thanks for sharing those memories, several friends had TR2 and Tr3 s back then, they revolutionized racing when released in 69. Sounds like you were right in the thick of the action back then, ...great memories of exciting times. May our memories never fade.🏁🏍
Great vid James. Brings back fond memories. I think it was 1975 when i saw Hansford and Perry racing the small green meanies at Oran Park. Still remember guys no longer with us like Jim Budd, Kenny Blake, Warren and Len Willing, Ron Toombs. Now we have lost the " go show " Anthony Gobert. My road bike back in 1973 was a suzuki GT750J model. Thanks for the memories James.
Ahh Yes! ... Suzuki's GT750J, the first of the Japanese water cooled 2 strokes made quite a splash when released in '72. Glad the video brought back fond memories, I remember those guys setting the pace in some of the best racing the era produced. Thanks for your positive review.🥲👍
I’ve watched movies from WW2 in the pacific, like Pearl Harbor and tora tora, even war on saipan acting star by Nicolas cage and it was an amazing movie to watch, but when is there going to be a movie made in truk lagoon based on WW2, it’ll be so amazing to watch
I absolutely agree, all of the elements required for the making of an epic war drama are present in the story of the American Naval raid on Truk. Thanks for your thought provoking comments.... Perhaps some day!
@@ClassicSuper8 you welcome 🙏❤️😇
Let's hear the bikes that music suck the big one.
Is there any more foptage out there? Would be great to see.
Hope to have more old footage available in 2024. Pleased with response to this video so far. Thanks for your interest.
Hello! Thank you for this great video. I wondered where these images came from? I 'm looking for old family films shot in Sydney, but I'm having trouble finding any.
Many thanks Josef, for your positive review, ... I think KZread is probably still the best place to find the type of material you're searching for, albeit fairly scarce. The footage in this clip was all shot by myself and a link to my channel beneath the video description will reveal additional footage from "Sydney Royal Easter Show" at Moore Park, shot around the same period... Hope this was helpful.
Great explorational video from the past! This makes me want to visit that island even more. Thank you for sharing!
Many Thanks for your very positive review ... It was an unforgettable experience for our team, beautiful area and very friendly locals make our visit very special .... Well worth a visit.
Awesome, the memories are flooding back. TZ Yamahas with Vesco fairings and seats from the Fibreglass Works, although it was Fibreflash when I worked there later on. I was hanging around, soaking up the atmosphere at the time and you took me right back there. Thank you.
Many Thanks Peter, ... Glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane, Great times indeed !
I remember Team Flash and later Channel 7. Was Steve's team mate Phil Jacobs? I bought my first road racer, a TZ250F from Steve Fisher after the Easter Bathurst races in 1981. Top guy and a fast racer. Thanks for reviving the memories.
Can't confirm if Steve teamed with Phil Jacobs but he did team with Lee Roebuck on a Frasers Motor Cycles 600cc Ducati and in the "1981 Coca Cola 800", qualifying on pole on the smallest bike in the field and after a slow start, stormed through the field to win two classes and take 3rd outright. I raced against Lee Roebuck in his earlier career in 250 production myself, and like Steve, a top bloke and very fast. ... Thanks Peter, you revived some great memories with your positive comments.... Cheers mate!
Great upload, it was never the same when they moved to Homebush in 97.
Thanks for your very positive comment, ... I absolutely agree, ... The original Moore Park venue was magic.
Great Flashback. I have fond memories of that time, except for when I hit the Armco fence coming onto the straight at Amaroo, breaking both my legs and almost getting run over by Warren Willing (1970 or 1971). I rode a Stan Coleman race modified Suzuki Hustler 250 in both 250 & 350 class races. It was a fun time trying to emulate my hero's Ron Toombs, Brian Hindle. The highlight was watching Giacomo Agostini on his MV Augusta race at Oran Park against the likes of Toombs and Hindle.
Wow! ... Some epic memories indeed, and some great hero's of the time. Your experiences at Amaroo certainly emphasize the challenges of racing there, particularly on two wheels. A mate of mine hit the Armco at the same spot, with a similar outcome. My brother and I, both left some leather on that circuit as well, but like you, we still enjoy great memories of those times. Thanks for sharing, ... Much appreciated !👍🏍🚑🏁
Hi James, this footage is lovely! I work for a production company in the UK and would be interested in potentially licensing it. If you are open to the idea, is there a way to contact you directly?
Olivia, thank you for your very positive comment and interest in this video. I have used segments of the footage on other videos on my KZread channel and would be happy to allow it's inclusion, in part or full, in other productions, provided they comply with KZread guidelines and an acknowledgement given to my channel . I Filmed and edited the clip myself and the backing track used in this clip has no Copyright claim against it. I have no social media accounts outside KZread but hope this helps.
@@ClassicSuper8 thank you so much - the footage is fantastic and I am delighted that you'd be up for us using it. For compliance purposes, I would need to send you a permission of use form. Is there any way of doing so?
@@oliviachurch1130 Certainly, If you could Email me a Form to [email protected] We can proceed from there.
So impressed the girl in this footage is sporting a Bulldogs sloppy joe. We'd be about the same age too. Enjoying a premiership only a few months after this was shot.
What a year it was for Bulldogs fans, a long drought was broken with that impressive 1980 Premiership win. Thanks for your comments and glad the video brought back great memories.👍😁
Back when life was fun.
Simple spontaneous enjoyment ... sure made for great memories.🎡
Fantastic footage. I definitely attended the 1980 show.
Many thanks for your great review and hopefully some happy memories.👍🎡
Before mass immigration and unaffordable housing
I was born in Jan 81, but this really took me back. Thanks for the memories 😂
So glad you enjoyed the video, ... Seems like a magic time, looking back.🎡🎠🎆
I'm sure it didn't feel like it at the time, but it seems so much less frantic than today. I was born in '78 so I would have only been a baby at the time of this footage, but even in the late 80s and early 90s I remember wandering through those same streets and it was a lot calmer than today.
I think you're absolutely right, Sydney's population has increased by approximately 40% or 2 million people since 1980, along with all the "Hustle & Bustle" that goes with such growth ... Thanks for your insights.🚸
Totally agree
A guy I worked with and me were talking about the Easter show and going as kids. He said it was a whole adventure you waited all year for. He'd travel up from Woolongong with his brothers and sisters and grandmother with sandwiches and snacks and a picnic blanket. Spend the whole day there and then watch the fireworks at night before sleeping on the train home. He said it just wasn't the same when it moved to Homebush. My personal favourite was watching Dale Buggins doing his motorcycle stunts. Unfortunately we lost Dale in 81. Thanks for the video.
Great times and simple pleasures, Dale Buggins was a household name back then, I remember it all well. Thanks for sharing your experiences, much appreciated!🎇🙂
Fantastic years !!!
Yes indeed! ... Great memories.
Sydney was a wonderful & affordable place to live back then, absolutely shit now unless your a millionaire
Luke, your comment reminds me of that old Bob Dylan song, "The Times, They Are A-Changin," still some great memories. Cheers mate!
Agreed.
It was much better.
That was beautiful. Thanks for sharing this its brought back so many memories
Many Thanks, glad it brought back happy memories.🎡
Love you Sydney. Thankyou for the great video 👍❤
Many Thanks Evon, so glad you enjoyed the video.
Bloody fantastic, i was actually in it, went round Steve Fisher when he came off at Honda corner, well done, any more?
Thanks Gary, so glad you enjoyed watching and reliving some exciting memories. I'm trying to chase up some old friends in the hope they might still have footage of those unforgettable times they'd be willing to share. Cheers Mate.
Remember being taken by my uncle one year and telling him mum and dad let us go to the Wall of Death, no they didn't, where I fell in love with bikes. Often wonder what happened to those flathead Indians. Also the home of Australia's biggest and fastest Speedway track, what a place.
Thanks for reminding me John, Those guys certainly knew how to create an impression. The Indian 'Scout' was popular with sideshow daredevils, apparently due to it's light weight, manoeuvrability and low centre of gravity.... "look ma, no hands." ... also loved the Speedway, ... Cheers Mate! 🏍🚴♂
Good stuff
Thanks Philip, ... glad you enjoyed the ride! 😁
Back when smokes and bikes didn't hurt you!
I think most of us were definitely less risk-averse back then .... " Those were the days, John!"🚑
Historic Photos of "Meggol" ex "Doomba" at the end of this video give some context to the vessels past lives.⏳
Goodday brings back sum measures on the TZ350 J and H on the same tracks well dun
Thanks Erik, Cheers mate!
They were the days. My brother was the mechanic for Rick Perry No 26 team kawasaki. All my brothers and myself raced. Great days. Great vid thanks.
Many Thanks Graeme .... sounds like you and your brothers were right in the thick of the action, you guys are just who I had in mind when posting this video. Team Kawasaki was a major force in the day and riders like Rick and other team members, like Ron Toombs, Gregg Hansford and Murray Sayle on their H2R "Green Meanies" really took the fight up to Yamaha's TZs with their brilliant riding skills ably supported by team manager Neville Doyle who along with the team were responsible for the preparation, tuning and development of those iconic machines. Cheers mate! and best regards to your brothers.🏍🏍🏍
They should never have moved it. It was ruined by the move to Homebush. No more cable cars e.t.c
The promoters will claim that the Show is now bigger and brighter than ever ... but I think most who experienced the original, would agree that there was something extra special about the Moore Park venue Luke.
@@ClassicSuper8 Yep, the ONLY reason it was moved was because of the dollar value of the site. The RAS should hang their heads in shame for selling out. That venue could have been used for multiple purposes when the show wasn't on, instead of turning it into a movie studio. Mark my words, soon, it will ALL become residential. $$$ are all that matters.
Saddest part about this fantastic video is we have lost both tracks.
Many thanks Duncan! .... Truly a great loss for motor sports fans and competitors alike, losing these two tracks, which for so many, held treasured memories.... Cheers mate.
@@ClassicSuper8 I'm afraid it's part of progress and getting old ! Loved both for the bikes and the touring cars. Imagine proposing to have a 6hr race now on a track like Amaroo !
Bloody fantastic! There must be so much more like this around the place in boxes etc. Well done putting it together and editing. Cheers
Thanks very much for your generous comments, Tim, I've been very happy with the response to this video so far, you make a very good point about old film footage out there stored away. I hope more such material might come to lite, I think it was an era worth preserving. Cheers mate!
I was hoping to see a flash of my brother riding his '73 RD250 in amongst that lot. Nah. I've got the bike now, restoring it again after my last crash a couple of years ago. Love the video, very happy memories as a teenager at Oran Park - took me another 40 years to go racing.
Great to hear that you're restoring the old RD250. I probably crossed paths with your brother back in the day and sorry you didn't spot him in amongst the riders in the video, glad it brought back happy memories and hope your last crash remains the last. I 'd love to still have My RD250 and H2 750 Kwacka . Many happy memories. Thanks for your very positive comments!
Ten STARS - Brilliant. Captures the years I was racing 250 Production in SA and trying to be almost famous!
Mike, ... Thanks so much for the great review, I really appreciate it. I can certainly identify with your history. Cheers mate!
Me too, in both 250 Prod and 500. Great vid and I hope it inspires others to dig out the old super 8s
@@garthhayter9217 Thanks Garth, ... Fingers crossed mate!
i remember watching my first Jim Burr video, in Huskisson, at the dive club 🙂
Wow! ... Andrew, you are winding back the clock now, so glad you managed to find my KZread videos, hope they bring back fond memories. Thanks for re-connecting.🤿⏳🏍
One of my fondest years at the show was in 1980. Thanks so much for sharing. 😉👌🏻
Thanks John, glad that the video brought back fond memories.⏳😁
Watched a lot of MX there in the 70s. Up in the rocks, with a view to the start line, and the run down where they disappeared down the back. Good hike in, and take whatever you needed, and plenty of it. 🤪 We never raced, as such, but we got aboard the trail bike boom in the early 70s, and rode hard and far on the crest of that wave, a loose group of about 20. I walked over the hill at Amaroo one day, when the road races were also in progress, and I had a revelation.💥...😀 Now entering my 8th decade, and I've still got a couple of bikes in the shed, still ridden. Thanks for this clip. Great days, for sure...✌
YES!! I remember very similar experiences and no doubt our paths must have crossed back in the day, probably on more than one occasion. Many of the old trails have gone the way of the old racing circuits and become swallowed up by Outer Sydney's urban sprawl. Great to hear you still have those bikes and thank you for sharing those priceless memories.🏍... Very much appreciated.😥😎
Where is Julia and ilona ?
Is this the Track were Wayne Gardner startet to race?
Yes Franz, ....Wayne began his racing career in 1977 at the age of 18, riding a second hand Yamaha TZ250 in the Australian Championship and finishing second on debut at Amaroo Park, He went on to record his first win a few weeks later at Oran Park, the closest circuit to his home in Wollongong, just south of Sydney.... the rest is history. Some of the riders in this video competed against him. ....Thanks for watching!
Thank you. Looks like a great time in Australia.I am from Austria .We had two racetraks in the 70 s but not such a great szene even a small country.
Your movie docos were filled with magic Jim. They certainly inspired me. Thank you for sharing
Thanks so much Mark, .... can't tell you how much your generous endorsement means. I've followed your progress and accomplishments throughout the decades, as you have taken our mutual love of diving and photography to new heights. Cheers mate !
Amazing footage! So many ads for ciggies and grog lol classic 80s australiana!
Wow!.....Thanks GG:... Cigarettes & Alcohol Companies may not have been the only sponsors of entertainment in the 80's but they were way ahead of whoever was in 2nd place.
I wish more videos like this exist here. I was only two at the time and didn’t attend the show until I was four. Mum took a photo of my sister and I with the Paddle Pop Lion in 82. I think we stopped going around 1990. Some great memories of my childhood throughout the 80s, and the Easter show is definitely one of them. Thanks for sharing your footage.
I'm really pleased that the video brought back great memories and thank you for taking time to post such positive comments. Much appreciated!
Jim your editing is simply Fantastic.. love it
WOW! .... Thanks Joseph, and thanks to your high quality Digital Transfers of my old Super 8 film, the re-editing was a labour of love.😁
Good to see all this old footage on youtube
Thanks Joseph,....Half a century ago KZread would have been science-fiction, today it provides an invaluable forum for preserving old memories.🤿
how are things?- Bravo, how best uploading, see you on my side~James~ 🤘
Thanks for the thumbs up Eugene, Cheers mate.😁
