These guys are great! They've just started and this is only their fourth song, but there's a lot of history behind it! Both of them used to be in FEVER 333, Stevis (guitar) also used to be in a band called The Chariot (craziest live band of all time! Check out their video for the song "The City" for a great compilation of live clips) and Aric (drums) is in a band called Night Verses! I just saw Night Verses a few weeks ago and they were incredible! And last but not least their music was produced by former member of Bring Me The Horizon, Jordan Fish! Great video, subscribed! 'Arirang' is a group of folk songs in Korea. They all differ in melody, context and mood region to region apart from the fact they share the word 'Arirang' in the chorus. The word 'Arirang' can mean nothing and everything, and has to be interpreted in the given song's context (it's a bit like the word 'Oom-Pah-Pah' in the musical 'Oliver!'). The most famous version of Arirang is from Seoul region, and it became the favourite of the nation in the 20's when it was sung in then a hit film of the same title. Its soulful simple tune lended itself to be sung in both joyous and sad occasion and with different lyrics. The song went wherever Koreans went during the colonial time - whether as hard labourers to Pacific islands or so-called 'comfort women' to Southeast Asia. The local natives who contacted these Koreans, who were dislocated forcefully by the Imperial Japan, still remember the tune of Arirang after half a century. Now, 'Arirang Alone' is a modern variation of this famous folk tune. It assums a lone voice wishing for the reunification of North/South Korea (hence Arirang 'Alone'), picturing the image of a sea journey from Halla-mountain in the South to Baektu-mountain in the North. The journey is going to be rough (and in this context, 'Arigang Hill' represents the obstacle to overcome), and may be forced to break down occasionally... but the lone voice still encourages to carry on and others to join in hand-in-hand. In this Sohyang arrangement, she turned the simple ditty to a full blown journey - starting off as a somewhat naive, childlike lone voice hoping for the journey to reunification. It soon meets the rough sea and obstacles as represented by the dramatic transition, but, as Korea's modern history proves, she wouldn't give up the spirit and carry on with renewed energy. When the song reaches the chorus of the famous folk tune, which literally every Korean knows, she encourages the audience to join in, symbolically to join in, hand-in-hand, to this journey to reunion. But at the end, she comes back as the lone voice, now somewhat more melancholic because indeed the journey to reunification is still far and rough... but as the closing line says ('We're going over Arirang Hill'), she wouldn't let go of the hope. With this historic and cultural context, one would be able to understand better why this Sohyang rendition of 'Arirang Alone' struck the heart of Korean public.

@@beardoweirdo.79 I see. That's a common problem. There are a number of ways to get around a Copyright block. For example, if you had made that photo nearly transparent, we could have seen the video well enough, and it would have played without being blocked. Many Reactors put a light veil or transparent mask over the video that allows a decent view of the video. Also, if you like to make comments, you can stop the video, make a comment, rewind a few seconds of a highlight, and continue. I like your channel but I feel that you must see a video to appreciate it. I suggest that you follow up my suggestions with some research into such methods. Cheers.

This performance by the PHENOMENAL So Hyang is even more impressive given the fact that she IS NOT well here. Some time prior to this event, So Hyang was released from the hospital, still recovering from her most recent bout with severe pneumonia (eight times between 2016 - 2020). Her doctors advised her to cancel, to not talk, and to just rest. So Hyang did not want to disappoint the audience. Furthermore, at about the same time, she was experiencing vocal cord issues and thought her singing career was over. She wanted to sing one last time. Afterward, she disappeared from public singing for nearly two years. When she returned in 2020, she proved that her technique is flawless. Fast forward to 2024, not only is So Hyang aging in reverse, but she sounds better than ever before, if that's even possible. Her vocal range is still RIDICULOUS, and her breath control remains INSANE.

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。 I witnessed the live debut of this song 😍 that was played as the encore & finale of the special concert by Band-Maid & The Warning on June 12 in Roppongi, Tokyo . My seat was located on the 2nd floor but in the center meaning in front of the two drummers. I was in bliss! It looked to me that Paulina and Akane literally and happily competed like a duel to see which drummer can kick harder enough to break their bass drum in the joint performance. 🤣 (FYI : In the special concert, The Warning, who opened as the special guest, performed so powerful that the Maids were fired up to start their turn with fullest energy as the hostess band. It was fun like a kind of martial arts between two fighters respecting each other. 😄)

About The Warning: Three sisters from Monterrey, MX. The band started in 2012. They became The Warning in 2013. Today they are Dany, guitarist 24, Pau (Pow!), drummer 22, and Ale (Ah-leh), bassist 19. They have opened for the Killers, Stryper, Def Leppard (twice), Foo Fighters, Guns ‘n Roses (twice), Muse (nine times), Royal Blood, Imagine Dragons, and Avril Lavigne. They have toured with Three days Grace, Halestorm and the Pretty Reckless. In 2022 and 2023 they played over 175 concerts in 14 countries including at the MTV VMAs.
