    Really fun hearing about swimming in different forms being a former swimmer from England whom has an affection on yards because of learning years ago in a family friendly yard pool 😊

    In scientific research an n = 1 is not good research.

    Real scientists do not obsess over “good research” versus “bad research.” They view all research within its limitations and as part of a larger puzzle.

    @@SwimSwamTV I didn't state it was bad research. As a publishing scientist myself we were/are always warned about the merits of an n =1 sample size.

  • @BG-id2cv

    @@NW-rp6hn The title of the video is "We can learn...." In swimming, like all most other sports, you only learn when good scientific principles are applied to training. All improvements in swimming techniques and performance come from good scientific research. Just ask the national coaches.

    The NCAA student-athlete model is broken for everybody in every sport. Imagine being this guy. He has an Olympic Gold and wants to win another one. Now he’s stuck in Indiana, jerking around with classes that he has no need for back in Tunisia. He’s probably doing 90% of his training in a 25 yard pool. I would be wanting to do 100% of my training long course.

    Indiana university screwed him over, he was too good to train in the united states, why though ? to beat the american bobby fink in 2 events at the olympics! They even denied him visa to train with a pro team in California. Moving to the united states was a big mistake for him.

    Him splitting a 1: 43.94 leg in Doha attests to his capacities in 200 free, maybe not enough for 🥇,but definitely in contention for podium. 400IM is similar, in that he is understated and croissant boy overstated on the contrary…..

    Bottom line, why were the Chinese treated differently? All other nations / swimmers its guilty until proven innocent (often not possible, even after much chemical and legal investigation), but here it was a case of ok, because your governing body says it was an accident, we’ll accept that? ‘Accidents’ are not accepted from anyone else without major scrutiny. Plus, WADA was so careful to avoid just that scrutiny by brushing it all under the rug…..

    If Carson can go 1:43 don’t right him off for Olympic gold.

  • @verward
    @verward7 күн бұрын

    I don't think he will/can. He went 1:43.9 on a relay. This is a great split, but it's from a flying start and with slipstreaming from other swimmers. There was also very little pressure on him I think, which makes it somewhat easier. I think he could go 1:44 mid, but I'm not sure he will go for it at trials. I think the relay is more important to him. Prediction: he goes 1:44.8 in semis and then scratches. Does enough to guarantee his spot and also to see where he's at personally.

    10:13 don't count the reigning 100 fly World champ out... given that both Dressel and Milak took a hiatus they might not be at their prime level anymore in Paris and might not be able to compete with Grousset. Plus it's happening at home for an extra motivational boost. remember, 50.14 and 49.27 split....
