The NCAA student-athlete model is broken for everybody in every sport. Imagine being this guy. He has an Olympic Gold and wants to win another one. Now he’s stuck in Indiana, jerking around with classes that he has no need for back in Tunisia. He’s probably doing 90% of his training in a 25 yard pool. I would be wanting to do 100% of my training long course.

Bottom line, why were the Chinese treated differently? All other nations / swimmers its guilty until proven innocent (often not possible, even after much chemical and legal investigation), but here it was a case of ok, because your governing body says it was an accident, we’ll accept that? ‘Accidents’ are not accepted from anyone else without major scrutiny. Plus, WADA was so careful to avoid just that scrutiny by brushing it all under the rug…..

I don't think he will/can. He went 1:43.9 on a relay. This is a great split, but it's from a flying start and with slipstreaming from other swimmers. There was also very little pressure on him I think, which makes it somewhat easier. I think he could go 1:44 mid, but I'm not sure he will go for it at trials. I think the relay is more important to him. Prediction: he goes 1:44.8 in semis and then scratches. Does enough to guarantee his spot and also to see where he's at personally.
