Every 5 star that did not start right away in their freshman year, seem to not do so well later. Same goes for the NFL, the QB's that thrive seem to be the QB's that are thrown in to the very first season, game 1. Kirby Smart has ruined more 5 star QB's than any other coach in the NCAA, having 5 star QB's sitting behind 3 stars is a big mistake. And now watch, Bennet will never start. And those 5 star QB's that had to wait for Bennet to be done haven't done any good. We will see if my theory is right with the Arch Manning waiting for Ewers to move on @ Texas. I think Ewers parents bought his star rating, he's not that impressive, and they are ruining Arch Manning waiting for Ewers to move on. What happens when Ewers has another mediocre season on decides to stay another year. The reason Ewers even looks good at all is because of the people around him on the field. I think the Mannings are going to be pissed if that happens. The Ewers family won't give a shit.

With all due respect. These are the typical casual takes. The gamecocks have some of the most upside in the sec. Veteran defense filled with talent(should be a top 20 defense). Our offense has tons of upside with sellers harbor rocket and our offensive line will be much improved. Barring injuries the cocks will shock a lot of people.

Great video guys. The only part I disagreed with is the statement that VaTech is a hard place to recruit. If you go back to the Frank Beamer days, VT's team routinely recruited 5-star players and was loaded with 4-4.5 star players mostly from Virginia, NC, MD, DC, SC, PA, Eastern Tenn and KY, and believe it or not even FL. Those Frank Beamer teams were always ranked and consistently were top 15 teams. As with most things, recent history is what shapes opinions in CFB and the dark years under Justin Fuente are what prevails. You mentioned his early successes, but I would argue that those success were mostly due to remnants from Coach Beamer. Early on Fuente did have some recruiting success (think Justin Fields and Hendon Hooker), but neither of them got to start and and had very little playing time, ultimately both transferred out and we all know what they did. As a Hokie Fan, I'm excited for this season. I was hoping for the Hokies to ride under the radar until midseason, but i think that cat is out of the bag. One thing that wasn't mentioned in the Video was the improved linebacking corp. This is where the Hokies really struggled, especially early on last season. All in all, I believe the Hokies will be much improved this season on both sides of the ball and I believe they absolutely have a chance to compete for the ACC Title this year. The games I'm worried about most are, Clemson, GA Tech and Syracuse. Tech has shored up the Defensive line with transfers from Alabama, Oklahoma and Duke and beefed up the OL as well with transfers from GA State. Last year, the defensive finished ranked in the top 20 overall and was ranked 10th overall for sacks, all of this without a true mike linebacker. They brought in Sam Brumfield, a mike linebacker from Middle Tenn. He gave Alabama fits last year. GO HOKIES!!

In the Frank Beamer days, VT always played way above their recruiting level. They were well coached, but if you look back at the number of elite players they recruited out of HS, that number is relatively low compared to the competition. According to 247, VT has only had four 5 star players going back to 1999. Hell, Mike Vick was only rated a 3 star player coming out of High School. I sure do miss the 10 win seasons of the Frank Beamer area, but I must say recruiting was always a weak spot. It was player development and finding the diamond in the rough that allowed VT to excel. I don't think VT ever broke the Top 20 in recruiting, consistently staying in the mid 20's through mid 40's.

I don't know where you got your information, but Virginia Tech DID NOT "routinely" get 5 star players. Since 2009 around the time CFB started showing Stars in recruitment, VT was always around the 34 to 45 recruitment rankings during the Beamer era. The only 5 star player Beamer got was Tim Settle who only stayed for 1 season. Which is why Beamer and Bud was known to get the most out of 3 star players or lower. Because they didn't get alot of 4 star kids. Fuente was the only HC who got VT ranked in the top 25 in recruiting, even as high as #16 even though he didn't capitalize on it nor did VTs out of date Football facilities help during that timeframe. Glad Pry is here, Fuente cutting ties to the recruitment in Virginia hurt us, not winning games, losing to ODU, UVA and who could forget the time out that would of beaten Liberty only made things worse. Go Hokies.
