Yes, she sang the song mostly in Mandarin. And I think she took some inspiration from CoCo Lee, who voiced “Mulan” in the Chinese version of the Disney film. Very sad that CoCo is no longer with us. Very talented.

This performance takes us back to Faouzia of several years ago. Very dramatic, very big, piano ballad. She seemed really comfortable, and also very tuned into the emotion of the song. Lovely use of the glissando too. And she finished first that night. Nice way for her to celebrate her 24th birthday. 🙂
This was such a tough performance. Not only did she have to make sure her vocals, stage presents, and the diction of the language were all there, but she had to also make sure she was feeling the emotions of the lyrics. That’s a lot to juggle.

Yes, a risky song choice. But smart. The audience seemed very appreciative of Faouzia singing a Chinese-English song. G.E.M., the original singer, competed on season 2 of Singer. I thought Faouzia sounded very good. But I like strong voices. Some people commented it was too strong. Some commented her Chinese was good. Some said not good. I enjoyed this performance and I’m curious who she is going to sing next. Mariah Carey, Christina Aguilera, Celine Dion? It’s going to be very interesting.

You watched that very intently. Me too. You can tell Faouzia really loves this song. Several years ago, a Canadian interviewer asked her if she’d like to sing with Celine Dion. Faouzia said she’d be ready any time! Right now even. Maybe she’ll sing a Celine song on this contest? That would be interesting. There’s a 30 second clip out there of Faouzia singing a small part of “My Heart Will Go On”.
