Don't ever hire someone to cut down a tree that is near a building unless that tree cutter has insurance to cover any damage he does. No tree cutter is perfect. Trees that are near a house might need to be taken down in 4 to 6 ft lengths. Better to take extra time taking a tree down in short sections than loose a $200,000 house. Better to spent $2,000 for an insured tree cutter than destroy your house. A heavy tree can topple a 10,000 pound mobile crane. And move your car or truck 200 feet from the tree before you cut it down. And make sure curious onlookers aren't within 200 feet of the tree or the crane. A sharp chain saw makes the job a lot easier. If you are going to practice, practice on a tree that isn't near a building.
