Just a little reminder that Portland Timbers played sporting Kansas City on Saturday and they have another game tomorrow and then another one this weekend. It’s another one of those triple game weeks.
just finished doing the videos now :) thank you
@@thepartydeacon87 did you get the Portland game from last night? Believe they played Austin. I only see the match versus supporting Kansas City on KZread. It’s possible it hasn’t finished processing yet.
Colorado and real Salt Lake compete every year for a trophy called the Rocky Mountain cup. It’s very similar to the Cascadia cup that Portland/Seattle/Vancouver contest annually. The rivalry is also sometimes known as the rumble in the Rockies, as that is what it is called, when teams from Colorado and Utah play against each other in other sports.
that is a cool thing to do. soemthing other countries could adopt. have so many rivals and a fun little cup could be bragging rights each summer
It’s pronounced the same way that you would pronounce Real Madrid. Ironically, you weren’t wrong with Royal as real is the Spanish word for royal. Back when real Salt Lake were initially created they were a partner club to Real Madrid and their goal was to develop young players for them in a competitive league abroad. Real Madrid abandoned the team a few years later and discontinued the partnership, but real Salt Lake kept their name.
haha i wasnt sure. helps when the commentators say it so i dont sound silly. should hear me pronounce japanee names for my football manager save haha. should pick up associations like that, give american teams a boost. id be happy for newcastle to associate with an american team. we have a small link with atlanta due to almiron
I’m not sure how exactly they did it but Sacramento does have a player that played in this game who is on loan from Huddersfield town. Just a little interesting nugget.
ooooooo didnt know that
Sacramento or no strangers to the open cup. They are still fully professional, but they do reside in our second division. They knocked off three MLS teams in 2022 to be the first non-MLS team since 2008 to make the final. The final was scoreless on the road in an MLS stadium in the 75th minute before they gave up three goals in the final 15 minutes to lose. A non-MLS team has not won the competition since 1999 but they are one of only three teams since then to have made a final. Their fan support is incredible too. They had almost 11,000 fans there for this game.
they played superbly. showed they werent afraid which is always good and just went for it. made a fan out of me
@@thepartydeacon87 made a fan out of you? Does that mean Timbers and Republic weekly reactions? 👀 😂
Sacramento are one of three lower division teams onto the quarterfinals. the quarterfinal plays out like this: Sporting Kansas City (MLS) versus FC Dallas (MLS) Atlanta United (MLS) versus Indy 11 (USL championship) LAFC (MLS) versus New Mexico United (USL championship) Sacramento Republic (USL championship) versus Seattle sounders (MLS)
hopefully a lower league team can get far and maybe win it. that would be fun
@@thepartydeacon87 if a lower league team did win the competition then they would make continental champions league. The U.S. Open cup winner gets a spot in the first round of the champions league.
I have two game recommendations for you. Real Salt Lake versus Colorado Rapids, also known as the rumble in the Rockies or the Rocky Mountain cup from the weekend. It’s a derby match. Mid week there was a seven goals thriller in the US Open cup. The highlights are already available on the US soccer KZread page. It’s second division Sacramento Republic hosting MLS San Jose earthquakes in the round of 16.
I think it was hard to pull momentum from beating San Jose. In all honesty, San Jose is a team that everybody is expecting to be. Given all of their mistakes in this game, I don’t feel like losing only one goal was a bad result for Portland. Minnesota will have to feel like they could’ve gotten a lot more from this game. I would expect Portland to beat Kansas City next weekend though. Portland create a lot of chances and Kansas City cannot keep opposing teams out of the back of the net. I don’t know if they have conceded the most goals in all of MLS, but they’re definitely top five if not top three.
i agree there should of been more goals 100%. i cant believe it stayed at 2-1
I think something happened with the audio mixing. Normally the background audio was quiet, which is good, but I think it was on mute this time.
Shame our voices aren't captured
I don't know why it won't capture them :/
no one gets to hear our angelic voices lol
I’m surprised Portland haven’t pulled a Nashville. Nashville have had a miserable start to the season with their coach that they’ve had since I think 2018 or 2019…he’s been around a while. Last season was the worst finish in team history and this season was on track to be worse. There was rumors he’d be sacked but they waited until the morning after they beat Toronto 2-0 to sack him. Was the first time I’ve really ever seen a coach get sacked after a win. I feel like Portland just need to get rid of Garry Neville.
Tell the owners that please haha he needs to go. For someone who was a defender he sure can't manage his defense to play well lol
@@thepartydeacon87 I mean, I don’t know him and I’ve never talk to him, but some people just aren’t good people managers. Like they aren’t very good at communicating concepts to people and getting people to rally around them. I think that’s probably more Neville’s problem than not knowing what he’s doing.
i just dont think he is very good. every club he goes to he doesnt do very well. better off trying out some unknown young manager than him
Is it just me or did the highlights cut out the goals? Cause unless I messed up it only showed three of Portlands four and one of San Jose’s two?
I have just checked and it did show all the goals :)
@@thepartydeacon87 now I just feel dumb lol. I could’ve swore that I missed them though.
haha its ok :)
This was actually your 13th game of the season. You played your 12th game on Sunday against Seattle. You fell behind two games. There was midweek league games this week. I bookmarked this to watch tomorrow but just wanted to let you know that you did play your derby on Sunday.
Thank you for telling me. Can't believe I missed a game :s I seriously don't remember seeing that game lol
@@thepartydeacon87 yeah it’s easy. From here on out, the MLS schedule gets quite congested now that every team is fully stretched out. There’s multiple tournaments going on, so there will be plenty of midweek fixtures added onto the weekend fixtures going forward.
One thing about the football manager simulation of this… Japanese broadcasters do not shout goal like that.
best "goal" i could get haha
There were a lot of good MLS games from the weekend. The top ones that I would recommend our Colorado Rapids versus San Jose earthquakes, LA Galaxy versus real Salt Lake, CF Montreal versus Miami, and Atlanta United versus DC United. Obviously the Portland Timbers game as well but because you’re a fan. Don’t forget that there is a full schedule of MLS games on Wednesday for mid week fixtures, including the timbers, And then another full weekend on Saturday/Sunday.
Miami looks unstoppable now, but we’ve seen how they’ve played when Lionel Messi is missing. It doesn’t matter if the entire rest of the team is there if their lives depended on it, they would not be able to win a game without Lionel Messi. From the last weekend of May throughout the month of June and the first weekend of July minimum he will be out for the COPA America And pre-Copa America friendly. He may be out additional weeks in July if Argentina make it out of the group stages. They will have quite a bit of an issue holding on that top spot. He’ll be at least seven or eight MLS games if not more. No, MLS does not stop play for the COPA America. Many players, over 100 league wide, will be out for COPA America and the euros combined… In MLS you call up the reserves and keep playing.
i agree messi is very important to them. im wondering what they will do when he retires. they need to find players to replace him and suarez now rather than wait and just add more big stars. that is mad! two big tournaments and they dont stop for them its mental
@@thepartydeacon87 with some teams there is no plan. The plan is to bring in retiring stars only. The LA Galaxy and D.C. United have been doing that since 2007 with David Beckum. Toronto has made a habit of doing it. The New York teams try as well. Miami will be no different. It’s a spectacle and the spectacle makes more money.
We are well passed last weekend, so I obviously am not going to recommend any of the games highlights from last weekend, there weren’t really many of them worth watching anyway… But mid week we did have the round of 32 of our FA cup. The official US soccer KZread page will, at some point, eventually upload the highlands. When they do if they do before the round of 16 on May 21, I would definitely recommend checking out a couple of those games. They were absolutely bonkers. MLS side, Houston Dynamo versus second division USL championship Detroit city, all second division USL championship matchup between Tampa Bay rowdies, and Birmingham Legion was a 10 goal thriller, MLS Seattle sounders hosting second division USL championship Louisville city went all the way to penalties, third division USL league one Union Omaha hosted MLS side sporting Kansas City in a game that went all the way through overtime and New Mexico United of our second division USL championship hosted MLS side real Salt Lake. There were other games as well, but I would definitely recommend checking those out if and when the US soccer KZread page ever uploads the round of 32 highlights like they’re supposed to.
think i will do some from this weekend :) if there are any midweek cup games or anything i will do y best to try and cover them too :)
@@thepartydeacon87 best ones form the weekend were Galaxy vs Real Salt Lake, Colorado vs San Jose, Atlanta vs D.C., and Montreal vs Miami. There are no cup games this midweek but there is a fulls chedule of MLS games on wednesday including Portland vs San Jose.
Are you going to be able to do the live watch party for Portland Timbers versus Seattle sounders, your major derby? The start time is now 4:45 PM US Eastern or 9:45 PM UK time on Sunday night. Also be aware that there is a midweek game for Portland against the San Jose earthquakes and then another game next Saturday against Minnesota United.
i set it all up and the appletv website kept erroring. was so frsutrated
@@thepartydeacon87 you didn’t hear it from me, but you can watch any game on a website called streameast. I’ll post th e link in a separate reply if I can, sometimes KZread blocks comments with external links. It’s just not officially sponsored by the league, if you catch my drift. Also has all the 3PM games from the EPL so Brit’s can watch.
3:25 usually I agree with you but that time I do think it was a fair foul.
I don’t think that either defense in this game had a game worth riding home about. It was pretty sloppy. I think if this had been in Portland Portland probably would’ve won, but there has not really been a more dominant team in MLS at Home over the last couple seasons as Charlotte. They finished ninth in the east both of their first two seasons in MLS and they are currently sat seventh heading into this week this season for their third ever MLS season but they’re almost undefeated at home. If you make a mistake at Bank of America Stadium chances are you probably aren’t going to leave their unscaved.
the defending was all over the place it was ridiculous
@@thepartydeacon87 defending is generally poor in MLS to begin with due to the salary cap, but this was poor even for MLS standards.
I was looking for an explanation of 'Talent Scouts', and you were useless
It literally explains that in the game..........
@thepartydeacon87 You're not useless by anymeans man. You are likeable, loveable, and you are worthy of Respect. Thank you for taking the time out of your day to walk us through this mode. It's such a pain in the ass some times lol
I WAS JUMPING SO MUCH, HILARIOUS CLIP
the robots seem a little bossy lol
they are very bossy haha
I don’t really have all that much to say about this match. Portland did well to bring themselves back into the game, but considering how much LAFC are struggling this season this should not have been that much of a competition for them. Obviously should’ve been a tough game on the road plus LAFC still have Bouanga who scored over 40 goals and all competitions last season and won the Golden boot in both the champions league and MLS league but other than that nothing has gone right for LAFC this season. Portland need the summer transfer at the end of July to get here fast. Unlike Europe it doesn’t open until the end of July in MLS.
When will this weeks MLS video be out?
Thank you for the shout out at the end. I really do appreciate it. I love watching other people watch MLS and MLS is always going to be very special to me, the USL included. I was watching MLS and USL for a year before I watched a single game from any club outside of the United States. It’s how I got into soccer. Both leagues have their problems and their controversies, and I do criticize both leagues a lot and I believe it’s deserved. But I still come back and watch every weekend and I still want to support the players and the fans that make this league what it is. I cannot wait until your next video.
I’m more of a cat person, but your puppy is so cute.
Sorry again, but I’m so late on the comments. KZread is not doing its job and notifying me when you upload MLS videos by putting them in my recommended page. I just turned on the notification bell so I’m hopefully not as late to future ones.
I have no idea why Taylor Twellman told us to enjoy that third goal before video review got involved. Sometimes you would like to know what Taylor Twellman is seeing. On second thought, I don’t think I do. He is one of the most overrated TV broadcasters for soccer in this country. He thinks he’s all it and he’s not. Almost half of what he says is not accurate. Normally he broadcast Miami games only but sometimes to make it look like they’re being impartial they assign him to cover other games. Personally, I like it when he covers Miami games because I don’t watch Miami so the rest of us don’t have to put up with his nonsense.
This is one of the newest derby’s in MLS. Kansas City and St. Louis are separated by only 250 miles. They are in the same state. I know in the UK 250 miles is like from the east side of your country to the west side of your country but here that’s like local. When Miami visits Vancouver for their league fixture in a few months that will be a 7000 mile round-trip for Miami. That’s a regular league fixture. When the Portland Timbers visited the Columbus crew that was 2448 miles one way… They then had to fly back. That’s not even close to coast. Ohio is three states inland. That’s both why winning on the road is so hard in this league because of how far you have to travel and that’s also why fixtures like Portland versus Seattle, St. Louis versus Kansas City, Charlotte versus Atlanta, Salt Lake versus Colorado, and a couple others are major derby even though they’re not all that close in European standards. Sporting Kansas City are one of the original MLS teams from 1996 and St. Louis played their first ever competitive game in February 2023. They knew that this game was going to be a spicy fixture just because of how close the two teams were to each other and it has not disappointed.
Yes. We can watch every single EPL game on US TV via legal streaming. Even the 3 PM UK time games that are blacked out in your own country.
Yet the fans who support the clubs in the actual country have to suffer
The El Paso keeper is actually a Jamaican international. A lot of national team starters from small countries in Asia, like really small like Estonia or Latvia, etc as well as small countries from the Caribbean end up playing professionally in the USL championship. The Paso goalkeeper is Jamaica’s number two and is called up to every single Jamaica camp. he gets to train with Leon Bailey and all of Jamaica’s other premier league players every time he goes to camp. Andre Blake of the Philadelphia union is the number one keeper. Occasionally, MLS clubs will loan some of their young players to the USL but it’s becoming incredibly rarer as MLS and USL just start fighting and competing more intensely. Through a lot of young Americans in the USL that are very talented that will never get the chance to play for MLS because MLS clubs, but the exception of a couple, refused to buy players from the USL. It’s honestly hurting our national team in the long run. The USL had these really good scouting departments and are able to get into areas. The MLS isn’t operating and then when they find good players, the good players career is essentially shut down because MLS refuses to buy them from the USL because they do not want to give their rival money. European leagues don’t scout the USL because it’s technically below MLS but there’s a lot of players that are equally talented. It kind of sucks.
Tampa Bay rowdies have a great home atmosphere. They’re Seagan can hold 7300 people and it’s usually packed out. It’s also right on the water so you can actually see the water from most seats in the stadium. MLS tried putting a team in Tampa Bay, the Tampa Bay mutiny, but it failed after five seasons. Fans brought it back as the Tampa Bay routies, but they haven’t been able to afford to pay to get out of the second division. We don’t have promotion and relegation here, but what we do have is paid to play. You can play at whatever level you can afford to buy your spot in. If you want to play MLS, you have to pay a half $1 billion. If you want to play in the USL championship, Tampa Bay league, you have to come up with I believe it’s $20 million. If you want to play our third division USL league one it’s $5 million. The national independent soccer association is the lowest level of professional soccer and I believe that is $250,000 or $500,000.
El Paso locomotive have really been struggling this season. It’s almost sad because they are one of the most consistently good teams in our second division. They also have a great home atmosphere and regularly bring close to 10,000 fans to their games. Probably helps that El Paso Texas is right on the border with Juarez Mexico, so there are a lot of soccer fans in the area to begin with. I never get bored watching that goal though. That was just fantastic.
It does not look like Portland made any signings at the transfer deadline. I think that they’re probably waiting until summer. Even though the summer is not our primary transfer window, it is for Europe so that tells me that they’re probably looking for a player from Europe. The trend is that players transferring into MLS from other countries/leagues in CONCACAF or South America typically arrived to MLS in the winter window and players coming from Europe typically arrive in the summer.
definitely need some signings just to sure up the defence and maybe the midfield. attack looks great
The galaxy vs San Jose game was actually not that good. Galaxy jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and then did their best late season arsenal impression. You expect these galaxy vs San Jose matches to be good usually though. It’s the California Classico, one of the oldest derbies in MLS as it’s between two of MLS’s founding teams. The game of the week was Sporting Kansas City vs St. Louis City SC without a doubt. Both teams play in Missouri and it’s turning into a heated in-state derby. Never thought it’d explode into such a big game so fast, with Kansas City being one of the original MLS teams from 1996 and St. Louis joining the league as a new team and playing for the first time ever last year but…my word. It’s become must watch tv when they play. Another game to check out isn’t in MLS, but from our second division the USL Championship. A player scored a goal from over 60 yards out. It looked like something from a glitching video game honestly. It’s one of the most unbelievable things I’ve ever seen in my entire life in any sport. The game is Tampa Bay Routies vs El Paso Locomotive. It’s on the USL on KZread youtube page and they won’t take it down if you check it out so you are good. It’s fully professional and players for both of those teams actually play for and sometimes start for national teams so it’s quality. You just have to see that goal man. You ain’t seeing anything that beats that in any league this year.
that was a fantastic goal, hit so sweetly i enjoyed it
The MLS transfer window closes in a couple hours tonight. For the rest of the world, it reopens in June. In MLS, it does not reopen until July 24, I believe it is, and it’s only open until August 12th or so and then it’s closed again. The winter one is the primary one for us and is open from the day after the MLS cup final in December until some date in April. Olivier Jeru is coming to LAFC in July, it’s already been confirmed and agreed to. Was made official a couple hours ago. Be glad that your regular season meetings with LAFC conclude after this week if I’m not mistaken. Jeru and Bouanga will be a Busquettes/Messi combo. Two mega stars and two potent goal scorers. Feel bad for everyone in the western Conference once August gets here down the stretch.
i was hoping for a few more signings tbh, defensively we look shaky at best
The Reffing in this game was a disaster. Ted Uncle or however you spell it was covering the match. Any game he refs turns into a shitshow and this was no exception. There’s been a petition to recall him and have his ref license taken away that has several thousand signatures in a country where soccer isn’t even that big. Should tell you all you need to know lol. He managed to be an extra defender and make five or six really good blocks for both teams on what could’ve been goal scoring opportunities. The highlights obviously left that out lol.
I like that game because I had a lot of great pace but also my team won. Lol. Seeing this team be able to fight back through adversity is something that has not happened in their first two years of existence.
The Charlotte game is free on MLS season pass this Sunday. We host Minnesota United. Would you be able to go live on KZread for that one? Could be a blast. Charlotte are now coached by Dean Smith, the Aston Villa legend. It’s his first season coaching in MLS and, although the club only has 11 points from the first eight matches it’s still the best start to a season in club history. Spectacularly he’s not even doing it with top players. When he took over after last season, he sold and cut all of the major contributors from the team… And then proceeded to make no new signings. She’s running out players from the reserve team and the Academy team every week until the summer window because he wants to see what the players are made of and how bad they really want to be on the team. All of us Charlotte fans were pretty fuming at first but now it’s looking like a pretty good move because club record start to the season and we know that there are reinforcements coming in the summer. There was one reinforcement brought in Winger Liel Abada was brought in from Celtic FC, a few weeks ago, our window is open till April 23, but otherwise it’s just been a roster full of kids and whoever they could scrap together until the summer. We’re still in pretty good position.
that abada looked really good tbh. soemtimes you just need to cut the dead wood and the team improves. portland need to get rid of neville imo, i feel he will hold us back
@@thepartydeacon87 I think Portland eventually will but coaches stick around a lot longer than they really need to in MLS. Without the threat of relegation, it’s not really a big deal if you finish near the bottom.
Yes, MLS is growing big time. In 1996, the first season of MLS, the average under 7000 fans per game. It hit an all-time low in 2001 when two of their clubs went out of business and it looked like the league would fold. It was a struggle to get 3000 people to show up. It’s starting to go back up to the numbers from the late 90s but then David Beckham joined the league in 2007. The average around 15,000 fans per game when he was here and the drop off didn’t really happen when he left. In fact, attendance continue to get better as David Beckham paved the way for more clubs to sign bigger name players under the David Beckham rule or the designated player rule. In 2018 73,000 people showed up to an MLS game in Atlanta Georgia. Most MLS teams now play at soccer specific stadiums instead of sharing NFL venues like they were at first. This kind of caps the capacity as most of the soccer specific stadiums are built to only hold around 25,000 people or so. Kansas City play at the 19,400 capacity children’s Mercy Park in Kansas City. For this game because they knew that Lionel Messi was in town and they wanted to allow more fans to come see him and come see the local team play against him. They got permission to play at the local 77,000 capacity NFL stadium. They brought over 72,000 fans which was the record for the largest crowd to watch a soccer game in the history of the state of Missouri. Charlotte FC holds the MLS record for the largest attendance at a home venue that is a weekly home venue not a one time we’re renting a bigger stadium thing… But they’re full-time Home venue. In 2022 they brought 74,479 for the season opener against the LA Galaxy. The all-time MLS record was for a game between LAFC and LA Galaxy played at the Rose Bowl, somewhat neutral venue in Los Angeles, so that the crowd could be split 50/50, and 82,500 people showed up for that. That was last summer.
Americans just need to give the sport a chance. I'm sure their were detractors for American football/baseball/hockey/basketball but when people gave it a chance they enjoyed it. It's great how the sport is growing and gaining massive followings. Long may it continue!
It’s a trend. Miami goes down so soft and more often than not. They get the call because that’s where the superstars are. He went down like that right before the first goal because he was legitimately expecting to get the call and it’s been called in favor of Miami several times already this season.
it makes me angry. whats the point in it?
Clue is in the name 😉
ha!
Can you please react to Charlotte versus Toronto and Kansas City versus Miami. It might be beneficial if you uploaded each reaction separately and put reaction in the title. It might drive up viewership, especially on the Miami one.
I will definitely do that thank you for the suggestions :)
As noted in a prior comment, most MLS clubs are not participating in the U.S. Open cup, our version of the FA cup. Only eight MLS first teams are participating and they join in the next round. Nine MLS reserve teams were participating, including Portland, but they have already been eliminated by fully amateur opposition at home in the very first round. an additional twelve MLS clubs were not participating in any capacity with a first team or a reserve team. Outside of the MLS first teams and MLS reserve teams, an additional 47 fully professional clubs from the United States for participating, including every club from our second and third divisions. There were also 16 fully amateur clubs allowed into the tournament, and I believe five of those amateur clubs are still alive in the third round, including the one that knocked out Portland. MLS is trying to refuse participation in the tournament because they have been losing to our lower leagues a lot lately and it’s been embarrassing for them. They are trying to shut the lower leagues down because they do not want competition for soccer fans or competitive purposes in the United States. Their hope is that if they don’t play in the tournament, those leagues don’t get exposure or money and they start to go bankrupt. They have been fighting back-and-forth with our Federation about this for a few months. This is the first year the MLS has not fully participated in the open cup since it took the field in 1996, and the open cup has been played every year except for the Covid year since 1914.
That's mad though. Maybe the most teams need to train and get better rather than not playing on cups. Surely a good cup run can be financially beneficial?
@@thepartydeacon87 there isn’t all that much prize money available because our Federation isn’t exactly swimming in money. In England, all of your leagues, they may not like each other but they get along. In the United States all of our leagues are trying to put each other out of business.
The champions cup are on their own KZread page. It’s the official CONCACAF KZread page. Outside of North America/Central America/Caribbean you can watch the games for free on KZread page live. The highlights are also available globally. The semi finals Start at the end of April. We start out with 10 of the 27 clubs in the tournament being from MLS… Of the four remaining only one is from MLS and half of the Liga MX representation, three of their six, are still there. Columbus crew is the only MLS side remaining and club America/Monterey/Pachuca are the Liga MX clubs remaining. No other countries have had clubs make it to the semifinal. Only one team not from MLS/MX made the quarterfinal and that was a club from Costa Rica. They lost seven - one on aggregate.
I will definitely watch some semi final and final highlights :)
I thought that red card was a little bit harsh. I think in a couple days when the disciplinary report comes out, we will see if it’s been downgraded to a yellow.
I hope so. Was very harsh
The only free games on MLS season pass are the ones that are on national TV in the US on either Fox or Fox Sports one. There are only about 40 of those per season. Charlotte versus Minnesota and LA Galaxy versus San Jose on Sunday night are the two free ones this week.
Ah ok thank you. I couldn't see the free games I was confused lol I really have to start realising that it's a completely different ball game over in America and it isn't the powerhouse that it is in the rest of the world, it's drastically different
@@thepartydeacon87 my primary MLS club is Charlotte and we coached by Dean Smith, the Aston Villa legend. Would be a blast if you could do a watch party on Sunday night for that one on KZread live.
@@thepartydeacon87 yes it is quite different. Soccer has to fall behind the NFL, the NBA, the NHL, the MLB, college football, and college basketball. Even golf and NASCAR bring in better ratings on TV typically.
Are you going to be able to do the live for Portland versus LAFC tonight?
I don’t know if it’s possible or not, but if you can, I would love if you could react to Columbus crew versus Tigres in the CONCACAF champions cup quarterfinal. Columbus is of MLS and Tigres is of Liga MX the Mexican league. The second leg just finished last night and what happened was the first time ever happened in history. The first leg was played last Tuesday in Columbus Ohio and the second leg was last night down in Monterey.
