John McRae here. 25 years later I still remember watching parts of this video as a new hire. I took my family from Adelaide (never been to the tropics) flying on the Westwind from Cairns and we stayed for 6 years. After acclimatising (eg sand flies at Loloho beach) we enjoyed the life so much, including sailing to nearby islets, that we were sad (eg tears) to leave as we watched Bougainville disappear through the Westwind's windows.

Did my 1st and 2nd year electrical apprenticeship there from 1988 to 1989 with BCL. Made so many new friends from Bougainville and Australia some whom am still in contact with today.. Such a beautiful place that everyone would love to live in. Thankyou for this video mate! *Damien Nangoi *Michael Nenoanu

Some of us who born in mid 90s never experienced the golden times of our beautiful island. We were born and grew during the times of struggle.

This vedio has really given me an insight into what was in place during the BCL days. My wife grew up there while her Dad was working there. She tells me stories of the place and seeing this video has really helped me understand her story. Beautiful vedio indeed.

Great video such a shame the quality is so low. It brings back many memories from my 13 years there.

That humidity at Aropa airstrip in 1987, after returning from first year boarding at high school still HITS me after 34 years ! Imagine opening the door to that Learjet 35A from Brisbane on the Friday flight at noon and the heat knocking you for six ? Brings back memories of going through customs and an hour later outside the terminal building sitting - dripping wet.
