Genelle and Mike

Join us as we take you along on our travels!

After Mike's life long chronic health struggles, we made the decision to stop living for tomorrow and instead, enjoy the journey today.

In January 2023 we sold our house that we worked hard for to live on the road for 8 months with our little doodle, Kaiya. With our passion for travel and photography, we decided to document the whole journey for KZread. We also take cruises yearly and take you along with us.

    Hi, I'm boarding a cruise from Bari. Which entrance did you use to get to the port? On the google map, it appears you have to go all the way around the wall of the port to get to the ship but your video shows that you just walked in from the old town.

  • @genelleandmike

    It appears there are different places cruise ships dock in Bari. Ours docked exactly where I placed the marker on my map and the entrance was that close to the ship. I don't think google maps is always accurate where the ship docks either. I found that often times Oceania docked in a completely different place than google said it would.

    I live in Eureka. Actually used to live within eyeshot of Carson. Having lived in Fresno and San Francisco prior, Eureka is no more dangerous than any other city. Use common sense when sightseeing. But yeah, the homelessness and drug problem ruins this otherwise wonderful city. Side note: It's pronounced wee-OTT and ar-CAY-ta. Another side note, you missed out not stopping in Ferndale before hitting Eureka. It's a wonderful, clean, quaint place. And Centerville Beach is breathtaking. Stay safe and enjoy your adventures.

    Thank you for sharing your experiences and insight. I, of course wish I had spent more time here, and maybe wasn't so burned out from traveling. I think my portrayal was skewed slightly negative because I had such high expectations for Eureka. It's somewhere I've always wanted to visit. It was mainly the interactions I had with people there that gave me a bad taste. However, the city itself and the architecture is beautiful and I truly love the nature surrounding it. I will most definitely put Ferndale on my list to visit in the future along with Centerville Beach. Take care!

    Next time you should spend some time in the Victorian village of Ferndale! It's where the movies Outbreak and the Majestic were filmed. There's a lot of controversy over Morro Bay/Rock. I didn't want to go into it on the video (people aren't really coming here for that), but if you do research on the history of this area, it's kind of heartbreaking. They have made efforts to pay to tribute to natives from this land, and create sanctuaries for wildlife...but it's hard to repair the damage that has been done. It also sounds like the future of this area isn't looking too good in terms of maintaining it's integrity 😕

    @vincespell to me, you can barely recognize the left side of the rock thats missing. The part of the rock that was taken was used to create the levies that protect the marina from waves. Otherwise, boats would not be able to stop here.

    I am really disappointed that you intended this as a review of Napa, but had little to say about it and then your bad experience in Fairfield threw shade on your Napa experience. Then, when you actually were in Napa Valley, the focus was on how your ice cream fell and that it was hot. Nothing about how cute the town was, nothing about how much nicer it was in every way than where you stayed ... not on the great food (which Napa is known for nearly as much as the wines). Kinda unfair. You can certainly enjoy much in Napa Valley without being wine people. Happy Trails.

    Hi Gayle, thank you for commenting on our video and giving it a watch. I understand your perspective, however we are just a couple that was on an 8 month road trip that decided to document our journey. This isn't our job and it isn't intended to be a perfect review of every place we visit. It's simply our experience and something for us to look back on. We posted it on KZread so others can watch if they care to see how our experience was. We did like Napa, and we wanted to let others know that staying in Fairfield may not be the best option depending on your own preferences. Please keep in mind that vlog style videos will have silly things like the ice cream incident and such, which to us, is harmless fun. Sorry that it didn't meet your expectations. Please keep in mind in the future that some people that post on KZread are just having fun making free content (like us).

  • @genelleandmike
    @genelleandmike3 ай бұрын

    I'm not entirely sure if Starlink was active when we were on the ship in November 2023, but it is now active on both Riviera and Marina. We felt the wifi was a lot better than our previous Oceania cruises, but it also depends if you are at sea or in port and how many people are using it at the time. They allow two log-ins per stateroom (such as a laptop and cell phone). I'm sure as you know, you can upgrade your wifi on the ship. We didn't feel we needed to as it was plenty for what we used it for. Thank you for watching!

    Am I the only person who absolutely hates a grey color palette? It is so cold and sterile compared to the rich colors in the cabins before. 😖 Oh well, I hope the cruise experience will help me to not notice it so much.

  • @genelleandmike
    @genelleandmike4 ай бұрын

    I can agree that a grey color palette is not my favorite. We were pleasantly surprised how nice the Penthouse suite looked in-person vs. in photos. It didn't feel sterile or boring. A few honest notes: not a fan of the velvet green couch as it was super uncomfortable, I miss the tubs, but the new shower is better than the previous smaller one, and we disliked the stools at the end of the bed as they weren't comfortable or all that useful (the table and chairs were better there so we could eat and watch TV if we wanted to). We did like more storage in the cabinets, the lighter closet, and the blue light in the bathroom for night time use. Thankfully the bed was just as comfortable! Any changes they made in the Oceania Suite were not positive ones. The previous fabrics were far better. Overall the ship feels very much the same as before since they didn't do the full renovation. The few places the new lighter decor really shows up are in baristas, the concierge level lounge, and Horizons. Everything else either blends in or hasn't changed.

  • @ladybug16421
    @ladybug164213 ай бұрын

    In my opinon pre-reno cabins where much nicer. The new decor is not quality, we found the drawer handles were broken and the drawers did not close properly. The old decor was more warm and comforting.

    We stayed in 11055 on this cruise and our previous one. It's below the pool deck, but we didn't find it loud above us accept occasionally when they were moving around lounge chairs to clean. Overall the suite is very sound proof and was actually much quieter than the Oceania Suite. The Oceania suite squeaked a lot and overall was noisier when coming into or leaving port. At night our room was very quiet and barely made a sound even when the sea was choppier. No hallway noise at all. I will suggest that a sound machine is a great thing to pack and always helps us sleep wherever we are. They make ones that are very small and easy to travel with.
